Idea: Miller/Warrick/a PG...

I was talking this over with a friend, and thinking that the Warriors, despite how deep the draft is, don't need another rookie to sit the bench.

Star-divide

Given our needs for a backup PG, some real-life shooting, and a big (in addition to Andris and Brandan) who can run...what about...

Warriors receive:

Mike Miller, Hakim Warrick, Kyle Lowry/Juan Carlos Navarro

Grizzlies receive:

Al Harrington, #14 pick

Now I know that Navarro isn't a true point, but the guy is servicable and can shoot the rock. I would prefer Lowry, and if they insist on Pietrus as well (collecting "talent"), I wouldn't hesitate to throw him in the mix.

What say you, GSOM?

just realized

crittenton is a grizzly. he would be an excellent option as well

my guess is

Navarro is staying but Lowry or Crittenton is likely to be dealt with Conley basically being handed the starting job. I think we could work out a deal with Memphis for some combination of a PG, Miller and/or Warrick pretty easily if we were willing to take on Brian Cardinal’s contract. Something that should be looked into as Cardinal could be a fairly valuable player in this system and if the deal adds a couple more guys who can be added in the rotation I’d be in favor of it.

Grizzlies

got robbed once this season, they probably arent going to fall for it again. Mike Miller alone averaged more points, rebounds, and assists than Al, I can’t see this happening with any kind of competent management on their side, but then again I would never have guessed the Gasol deal could have happened either

by FoyledAgain on May 29, 2008 4:09 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

the Gasol deal

Yeah, How did we miss out on that fire sale? Couldn’t we put together a better offer than LA did? Why put all this effort into the minor players while letting the major ones get away?

There was an article on ESPN about the possible trade options...

Basically there were a few teams that could offer something, but nobody else could really approach the disappearing salary that LA could.

Us!

with the TPE we couldve! Plus Memphis wouldnt have had to even pay for a half season of Kwame. It wouldve required Cohan to pay a lot of luxury tax though, so probably not all that realistic. And maybe Memphis really is that high on Marc Gasol and Crittenton.

I'd do it but I don't think the Grizz would...

I’d love to see Mike Miller in a dubs jersey but I don’t think the Grizz would give up all that talent for a Al and a pick (those two and Air France, maybe). Although, they did give the Fakers Gagol for a bag peanuts so who knows? But I don’t think they’d make that mistake again. Ask any Grizz fan what think they think about that trade and they’d turn around walk away. Whatever happens, I’m sure this team will look a bit different before opening game tip-off.

VERY NICE

but the only thing is that the grizzly’s main guy that THEY want is monta other than that if he is not in the deal, they are not going to do it. they are just going to try and haggle us. And plus it cannot just be al harrington it has to be in addition to atleast one more player to match contracts with mike miller and hakim warrick alone

by Montizzle8 on May 29, 2008 9:03 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

that's a very good point

i have no problem with throwing pietrus in there, but you’re right…monta is the “local” boy

memphis wants Monta

so how about Al + Monta + 2008 2nd rounder for Miller, Warrick + #5 pick + #28 pick 2008, we use #5 for OJ Mayo, #28 for Brandon Rush, and #14 on either Speights or Jordan. Resign Baron, and Biedrins, Mayo becomes our future PG, Miller SG, Jax at SF, Wright at PF, Biedrins C.

by shootda3 on May 29, 2008 9:47 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

if we trade monta

then at least get a legit big man in return imo.

warrick is a tweener whose game never translated to the pro level and miller + mayo would not help our weakness of rebounding and interior defense.

by misterjennings on May 29, 2008 10:32 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

ok, substitute Crittenton or Lowry for Warrick,

draft at #14 pick, Mareese Speights, 6”11” 250lb, nice outside shot, can defend PF/C ( poor man’s Amare Stoudemire)
#28 pick, Joey Dorsey 6’9” 260lb, or take Nathan Jawai 6’10” 270lb
We can also look to sign F/A power forward like Kurt Thomas, Turiaf, Landry. But I still like Brandon Rush as a back up SG/SF with his outside shot, 7” wingspan and athletism, would be a great defensive specialist as a late 1st round pick if he’s available.
Miller and Mayo would make up for Monta’s scoring and improve our defense.

by shootda3 on May 30, 2008 12:39 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

no monta trade

We should never give up monta. He will soon be the number one option on our team by far

I like the idea of this trade but it probably wont happen unless we give up more and maybe not get as much in return

Memphis fans

threatened to boycott the Grizzlies if they traded Mike Miller for garbage after the Gasol trade. No way that they would let him go without getting some big names, (Monta). They are in rebuilding mode just like the dubs. I think that Monta is a great player, but I doubt that the Grizzlies will offer him the 15.5mil that another diary posted. He is great, but lacks defensive skills. A player making 15mil/year should be a potential Garnet, Paul or Kobe, in other words, a player who could take their team to the playoffs with just a little help. Monta had Baron, Jax, Al, Beidrins, Buike, and other very decent players to help, and had a great season, but no playoffs. Although I will admit, he was pretty much one of the only clutch players in the losses when they were running with Denver for a spot.
I think that when Mully says he will match any offer, it means any reasonable offer for what Monta has to offer. I doubt he pays anything over 11mil/year.

Keep Monta Movement.

Monta

I don’t think he’s worth much more than $8mil/yr. the dubs suck so much that every time they get a half decent player, fans want to pay them anything to keep ‘em. then a couple yrs down the line, the dubs owner feels like he’s paying to much (even though he probably agreed to the contract in the first place) and looks to trade. if monta doesn’t like $8mil, the dubs need to sign and trade him, maybe for another draft pick. same with baron. we don’t need to pay big-time money $$ to so-called big-time players who don’t take us to the playoffs. in fact, let’s just get all our players from the d-league and be the worst of the worst again. real dubs fans will always stay loyal, then those same fans will go around and critize them anyway.

...my apologies… had a bad day at work.

by oldskool on Jun 3, 2008 10:31 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Ideally

He’ll start at 8M and with a 5 year contract, he’ll end at 12M. $50M/5 years.

by Dubs fan in Boston on Jun 4, 2008 6:59 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Andris should be in this ballpark as well

It’s not like you divide by the number of years. Everybody gets raises.

by Dubs fan in Boston on Jun 4, 2008 7:01 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

don't overpay

Monta if he gets an offer of over 10-12mil/year to start, $70/5years from Memphis, I can’t see the Warriors wanting to match. I’d try to get Miller, Lowry + #5 pick for Monta, Kosta + our 2nd round pick. Trade Al + #5 pick + 2009 pick to Clippers for Brand. Baron, Miller, Jax, Brand, Biedrins, Wright,Belli, Lowry, . Use our TPE + #14 pick for 34yr old Rasheed Wallace. This would push us over salary cap but give us a team Nelli could compete with. Nellie mentioned we need at least 3 all-star type players in order to be a contender and a decent bench. But he did say he has a stingy owner that won’t go over the cap, so we will never be able to get those players to win.

by shootda3 on Jun 4, 2008 10:28 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

We should also try

To get Kobe for Al and our second rounder.

You serious? None of your suggested trades are remotely viable or work financially. Work on that.

by Dubs fan in Boston on Jun 5, 2008 12:57 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

not impossible...

if you remember that the warriors dumped antawn jamison’s contract and got nick the quick in return. if the lakers are looking to be cheap like the warriors always are, kobe could be in dubs uniform before its all said and done, ...and over the hill and through the woods, to grama’s house we go…

by oldskool on Jun 5, 2008 2:15 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

okay,

Trade #1: Miller (9.3M) + Lowry(1.1M) + #5 for Monta(10M s&t) + 2009 1st rounder
Trade #2: Al (9.2M) + Buke(4M s& t) + Kosta (2M) + #5 + #14 for Brand (16M)
Trade#3: TPE + #14 for Wallace (14M) obviously this won’t work, unless we get extra creative. s&t Biedrins(9M) + s&t Pietrus(5M) for Wallace + Pistons 2008 1st rounder,
I’m only suggesting these trades to add talent to our team for a win now approach for Nellie, Baron, Jax, Miller, Brand, Wallace, that’s a veteran lineup worth 65 mil, I doubt that we would ever go over the cap, but maybe one of these teams may bite on our offer.

by shootda3 on Jun 5, 2008 10:35 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Trade #2 and Trade #3 both use the #14 pick

Fail.

Trade 1:
Monta may be the most valuable player in that trade, but try getting JUST their #5 for Monta. That’d be fair. Adding the others isn’t.

Trade 2:
Giving up 3 players and two lottery picks for a guy who’s almost 30 years old and coming off a season long knee injury is a little much.

Trade 3:
Trading Beans (21) for Wallace (34) is cycling while getting older. This is not a good trade for the Warriors. And TPE+#14 doesn’t work, unless you find a third team and send out some extra salary.

So, at the end of the trades we’d have BD/Jack/Miller/Brand/Beans or BD/Jack/Miller/Beans/Wallace. I’m sorry, neither of those teams are going to beat LA, SA, BOS, or any of the other great teams. We’d get to the playoffs (hopefully) and make a little noise, but that’s about it.

by Dubs fan in Boston on Jun 6, 2008 6:42 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah...

I know there are set incremental increases to every player’s contract. but the player’s expected potential should be reached and match what he will be paid by the end of his contract as well. this is what I meant.
