my next years warriors
Ok its my first post since the playoff hunt and before i get creamed here, let me remind everyone that its 2 04 am and i just had a diet coke and just watched Cherise Pempengco on you tube. Obviously her voice alone could give you a jolt that 100 cans of redbull can provide. Here I basically I traded Baron/Al + pick to chicago for hinrich, thomas and nocioni. They can draft beasley and team him up with baron and not get any flak for passing up on local boy Rose, then I went to memphis and traded Monta, Brandan, picks and cash for Miller, Lowry and the Custodian's horrible contract, a chance for the Memphis clown/gm to redeem himself of the gift of gasol (which I advocated trading for last year and of course was met with opposition calling him INJURED, GARBAGE, OVERRATED etc.) This composition of my warriors is obviously not championship ready but more of a transitionary team when we move to hire MARIO ELIE as the coach to suceed nellie, as opposed to Keith Smart who couldnt win with lebron. (Note: I love smart, he played with the gretaest basketball player in HUMANKIND: Ramon Fernandez of the San Miguel Beermen.) Oh and yeah, the trade machine is not working till sometime in July so zip it.
Yeah, kinda looks like W's circa 95-06.............. and crap just realized we have 4 white boys in the starting lineup, shades of dunmurphy although i dont think we can consider Nocioni as a dunmurphy clone.
PG Kirk Hinrich (third world country/poor man's steve nash)
SG Mike Miller
SF Stephen Jackson
PF Andres Nocioni (can bang with anyone including yo mama)
C Andris Biedrins
Tyrus Thomas
Kyle Lowry (baby baron)
Brian Cardinal
Kelenna Azubuike
Gerald Green (signed as a FA; minimum salary)
Marco Belinelli
Matt Barnes
Kosta Perovic
This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Women and trades

but it’s now the next morning and well, don’t you have second thoughts now?

No sizzle in this trade
We don’t want to trade our team leader, Nocioni and Hinrich have big contracts to 2011, if we trade Monta & Wright+picks for Miller+Lowry we need them to include both their 1st 2008 round picks. Basically Wright for #5 pick, Monta(sign&trade) for Miller + #28 pick, we keep our #14. I would take Mayo at #5, draft a big at #14, best available at #28. Wright is our future and would be tough to let go, rather see them take Al instead. With Lakers now the team to beat, we have to get bigger and will need to make some major moves to match up. Baron+ Mayo would bring us showtime to the bay area and keep this team exciting to watch and keep the celebrities coming.

That wouldn’t be any better than Boom and Monta, Why bother? For a future point guard we should be lookin for a real point not a 2 playin point.

Mayo
has better handles and 3 pt shot and would have significantly smaller contract, Miller has size at the 2/3 and is a more accurate shooter. Gives us cap room to keep Baron. Monta is going to be a great scorer but like Iverson will never be able to carry a team to a championship due to size/defense. Defense wins championships.

Iverson
came damn close to carrying his team to the championship. Mutumbo was really the only other significant player on that team. I’m not saying he was ever as good as Kobe, but he certainly never played with the likes of Shaq or Gasol/Odom. Thats not a fair criticism of The Answer.
by sam23 on May 30, 2008 12:53 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
significantly smaller contract?
If he becomes as good as Monta he’ll want the same money! The smaller contracts are only for a short time then they all want the money. If we keep getting youngsters to get small contracts we’ll just be a farm team for the teams that want to pay them later. We sold off Jason after he was trained to save money and now we should sell off Monta? Mayo is not another sure thing like Kevin Durant , so why take the chance? I wouldn’t mind moving Monta for the right price but I want something clearly more useful in return. A young Allan Iverson (with all his flaws!) for instance. or a Rodman clone, or a DeRon Williams type guard or maybe even Marion?

Monta
Is basically a young Iverson—a slightly worse passer and three-point shooter, but bigger and much more efficent overall from the field.
I think it’s totally fair to say that Iverson is not in the elite class of players who can lead their team to a championship. There are a ton of metrics that bear this out (ask JAE). By Dave Berri’s measures in “the Wages of Wins”, Iverson wasn’t even in the Top 40 players in the league the year he won the MVP. The fact that Philly improved and Denver didn’t with the “blockbuster” Iverson deal is pretty damning, I think. By contrast, look what happened to Minny and Boston with the KG deal.

Is basically a young Iverson?
I see little similarity, Monta is a one dimension player while Iverson has much more inventiveness and imagination, he can make something from nothing, he’s a much better ball handler, tough as nails, and great personality. Can you imagine Monta ever doing the “practice” interview?
It’s a team sport , Iverson never won the finals because he was on mediocre team, put him with the right guys and he’d lead them to a championship as well as Kobe or Duncan, Who’d you rather play alongside? I’d rather win with Iverson myself, he set the style for a generation of youth.
by Skeptic con Urquell on May 30, 2008 11:19 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
yeah
The huge difference in ball-handling talent practically kills the comparison to me. But where Iverson is past his prime (but still an elite player), Monta obviously has yet to hit his.

Im not gonna
go so far as to say “as well as Kobe or Duncan,” but I think he couldve done it in the right situation.
by sam23 on May 31, 2008 12:24 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
one dimensional???
Monta has one of the quickest 1st steps in the game. His ability to get to the basketball in very impressive but he also has a very very good jumper. Iverson might have more inventiveness and imagination, but he also shoots the ball 12-15 more times a game. If you want inventivness and imagination out of Monta, he’ll give it to you, but personally, I like that he is disciplined and only shoots the good shot. If Monta shot 10-12 more shots/game I’m sure he’d have a lot of AI-like shots….as well as a 42% FG percentage.

I love Iverson's personality
And I love watching him play. And he may well have “set the style for a generation of youth,” for what’s that worth.
Burt that has crap-all to do with his ability to lead his team to a championship. Everyone I’ve ever read who knows something a lot hoops (as opposed to amateur loudmouths like you me, and Atma) agrees that, in terms of contribution to victories Iverson is not in the elite class with MJ, Shaq, Duncan, Kobe et al. Over his career he’s shot 42.6% from the field and grabbed 3.8 rebounds per 36 minutes (compare to Monta’s 49.5% and 4.1, and trending upwards). The year he went to the championship he was surrounded by a vastly underrated supporting cast (Snow, McKie, Ratliff. et al.) who rebounded and defended like madmen and allowed him to freelance and volume-shoot to his li’l hear’s content.
He’s great. He’s not elite. Given their ages, trading Monta for AI right now would be … extremely silly.

youre right
in that ratliff, snow, mckie and company were underrated as a unit and complimented him perfectly…...but where would that team have been without AI? That team was in dire need of another scorer…too often AI was asked to do too much. He’s always been and always will be a volume shooter but so is Kobe Bryant (his %’s are amazing this year, but havent always been) and I think given a supporting cast that compliments him well (i.e. NOT Denver) he could have won a championship. He came damn close with almost no scoring help on that team. I agree swapping Monta for AI at this point would be silly, but AI is still one of the best of our generation and one of the toughest small men to ever play. You point out his rebounding numbers, but failed to mention his assists and steals. For a shoot first guard his assist numbers have always been suprisingly high, and while a poor one on one defender, he is always among the league leaders in steals.

for what’s that worth?
Hi Sleepy, It’s worth a lot, the NBA is all about entertainment, no one is forced to watch it.
Don’t worry what those “professional” pundits say, this is our league, we pay the bills and can have our own opinions. If they knew any more than us they’d have real jobs.
I dint say trade monta for old A.I. , I said I’d trade monta for someone like a young Iverson. ..chillin with a Bohemia and the sweetest girl ever, ever

Iverson
probably isnt the player he was. And thats just a horrible fit asking him to play a lot of PG next to Carmelo. I dont think the trade is a good analysis of his worth. He carried Philly to the finals almost single-handedly. I’ve never been a big Iverson supporter but the dude had heart and could pull out some amazing stuff. In the right situation I think he totally couldve led a team to a championship.

Ahh the Dubs were #1 in points scored, fast break points and points off turnovers. Is that not showtime? Plus Monta is more qualified NBA player than OJ Mayo. Mayo is a bust waiting to happen. Can you say JR Rider or Quitnen Richardson?
Mayo has better handles and 3 pt shot
Arguable. Lets see how Mayo deals with 6-7 NBA shooting guards in your face while shooting 3’s.
Defense wins championships.
Yes, thats why the Dubs should draft Joey Dorsey.

hmm
Just gotta say that Rider was a rising star in Minni but his personal issues over the years kept him from realizing his potential. Q-Rich was an 18th draft pick and has had a pretty good career. Hardly a bust.

No thanks.
After you wake up from your Red Bull crash and re-read your trade proposition, you’ll say to yourself “what was I thinking“
I’ll give you props though, it is an original trade idea but you’d really be turning this team upside down and rebuilding… again. The team we have now is only missing 1 or 2 pieces from being in deep playoff contention. It would be nice to see Lowry and Miller in a Dubs uni though.

Hinrich vs Nash
First off,
Suggesting one trade is enough for the residents of GSoM, no need to compound that with another in the same diary…
Second,
Kirk Hinrich knows how to do this thing called play defense. Just because he’s white and a PG doesn’t make him similar to Nash.
And finally,
Kirk Hinrich (third world country/poor man’s steve nash)
The proper term is “Homeless man’s Steve Nash”.

*Gasp*
The Chicago trade is pretty bad and is awesome if youre’ a Bulls fan. The Memphis trade is even worse.
You keep Baron for another year and enjoy his time with the W’s while it lasts and then you build around Tay, BW, and Biedrins.
Trading Tay and BW for Miller, Lowry, and Cardinal? Are you serious? I can’t even fathom why you’d want to do that outside of maybe you not liking Ellis for some reason.
The team you built is a 25 win team at BEST.

I just woke up and had a sip of coffee while listening to Little Brother
Man were those two trades HORRIBLE!
Hinrich is a historically worse shooter than Baron %wise and is just as fragile… Thomas’ game is too volitile, good to great on some nights and disappears like windex streaks on others… Nocioni is a fairly good player and he can bang your mom so I wouldn’t mind seeing him in a W jersey. So why make the deal? Just to get rid of Al? We’re basically giving away Baron Davis and our first rounder for the chanse to get rid of Al, who is basically a “homeless man’s” Nocioni but someone who I think is a good fit for this team. I would probably only throw a chair into my window if that trade happened.
As for the 2nd trade…. I was speechless for a second. Monta, Brendan Wright, future picks AND cash for Miller, Lowry AND Cardinal? This is not only ridiculous, this is a trade that would cause us to compete next year… for the first pick! AND that’ll only be to turn around and give to the Grizzlies because you want to give them future picks for robbing us. How could you place all of that talent and potential in a Wright/Monta team for Miller while taking in Cardinal’s contract. If this trade happened (either as a result of the “Make a Wish” program or by Cheezus wanting to destroy the Warriors himself)... I’d run through the window with the chair!

Your joking right?
That Memphis trade is horrible. Monta is a rising superstar and B Wright has potential. Are you really going to trade them for Mike Miller and Kyle Lowry? Cmon. Commen Sense. Use your head.

Chicago trade
That trade is also bad. We lose our leader for Hinrich who is pretty much always injured and didnt show that he was worth giving up baron for.
