Will Blazers Shop For Free Agent Point Guard? (Baron Davis)
"Baron Davis, Golden State – unrestricted (early termination option): With the way the Warriors season ended – with Davis watching from the bench in the second half a before their season finale – his relationship with head coach Don Nelson appears in tatters. Now Davis, according to multiple sources, could be the odd man out with the Warriors clearly looking to make Monta Ellis the primary scoring focus next season. Does this mean Davis (21.8 points, 7.6 assists per game) will opt out and decide to leave Golden State? If there was ever a time it could be this offseason. His stats are as impressive as ever (ranked second in league in steals per game – 2.33, sixth in assists per game, eighth in total points – 1791) and unlike some past seasons, Davis started all 82 games for the Warriors and the health concerns that once hampered him have disappeared. Although Davis (who is due $17 million next season, a hefty price tag Portland is sure to shun) has already said he wants to stay and "win a championship" with the Warriors, but hasn't officially said he'll return."-- Wendell Maxey [Hoopsworld]

I'd try to trade Baron.
LaFrentz, Outlaw or Aldridge, + Lottery Pick for Baron Davis is the most logical.
I would want Frye, but we are stacked at PF and I i don’t see him being a good center. Or Roy (but he is a SG, can possibly play PG?) and mostly Greg Oden.
But if Aldridge and Lottery Pick is included. I would do it in a heart beat.

i would do that trade also
but they might not want to part with aldrigde, but i would be happy with 2 from a list of jarret jack, travis outlaw, and martell webster, plus lafrentz’s expiring contract and theyre pick
but then again baron would have to probaly agree to an extension in portland if we were to make that trade, but i would do it in a second if we could
Alot of people say bad things about Stephen Jackson, but don't give him credit for being a good basketball player.

Blazer fan here
No way are the Blazers giving up Aldridge. In fact, I don’t think a trade between these two teams is likely at all- Portland won’t be willing to give up enough for it to be worth Golden State’s while.
The only trade I could see would be Lafrentz+Outlaw or Webster+maybe Jack+pick.

Yawn
The article’s premise is that Baron and Nellie are fighting, which I haven’t really heard anywhere. Boohoo… he sat for an entire half when he was playing poorly. They’re reading too much into this and dreaming of teaming BD with Roy. It’s not going to happen unless they convince their owner to go way into lux tax to get him.
We can’t trade him unless he doesn’t opt out. If he opts out, we get nothing. If he doesn’t opt out, we can re-sign and then trade him. If we can get Aldridge and their first rounder for BD, we’re doing it and praying for the lottery. I couldn’t turn that down. No way.
Anyways, he’s on the books for 17M. It’ll take a lot to get him to walk away from that.

If he opts out
We could still do a sign and trade. In fact that would mostly happen if he did opt out. We have bird rights so we could offer the most money.

ridiculous
no way the blazers are looking at Boom. last off season they brought in blake to help out jack and from what i’ve heard, they think (smile) that’s a good combo at PG.
trading for lafrentz is a huge mistake, the guy flat out hasn’t played well for the blazers since signing his big deal, and when he finally got healthy, he couldn’t find much PT.

couple points
1) Very few Blazer fans are happy with the PG situation. Almost nobody thinks the PG that will win a title with Oden/Aldridge/Roy is on the roster right now.
2) LaFrentz is only included because he’s the only guy with a contract big enough to get the deal done. The desirable chips the Blazers have are Outlaw and Webster, and to a lesser extent Jack and Sergio Rodriguez.
3) Despite those previous 2 points, you are right that this trade won’t happen.

Welcome to the jungle
This is the type of argument we have to deal with all day long. People either think the rest of the world is stupid or they think their own players are better than they really are… regardless, most of them don’t know how the NBA trade rules work.
Hey guys, why don’t we trade Al, our pick and the TPE for Kobe?!?

Yeah
BlazersEdge is full of extremely loyal fans that are great fun to banter with (and make up a terrific community) but vastly overrate Blazer players. Thanks to CP3’s dominance in the playoffs, the Edgers are finally agreeing with me that Paul is much better than Brandon Roy (yes, on the Edge this was in dispute most of the year).

Yeah...
But I’d rather have Monta Ellis than either of them ;-)

Why do you want to get rid of Outlaw and Webster?
They look pretty solid to me, not everybody needs to be a starter. Are they going to be asking for too much?

I don't
I highly doubt Outlaw will be traded. He’s come close to cementing a spot in the Blazers future. Webster is less certain but made major strides this year.
I was simply saying that of the Blazers who could be had (ie not Oden, Aldridge or Roy), they are the most desirable in other teams eyes.

indeed
We don’t know how close that came to happening, but supposedly they had a chance to get exactly what they need.. a young PG who can penetrate and defend (the Blazers get burned by opposing PGs all the time)... and they still ended up keeping Outlaw.
Suffice it to say that if Outlaw is moved, something really good is coming the other way.

blazers fans, maybe,
but management, i’m not so sure. i lived in pdx for 2 years while finishing school (portland state representin’!) and from what i saw at the games and heard on 1080AM radio, the blazers liked the jack/blake combo.
my gut feeling is that the blazers will try to draft for their needs and stand pat at that, as the majority of their franchise’s resurgence from the “jail breaker’s” days have come that way.

I think you are mistaking
1) The Blazers have drafter approximately 1000 PGs in the last 2 years (Rodriguez, Taurean Green, Petteri Kopponen, etc)
2) GM Kevin Pritchard has strongly stated that he is a “Best Player Available” guy, not a draft for needs guy.
3) Those yahoos on 1080 have no idea what they are talking about.
4) I look for Blake to stay with the team as a reserve and Jack to be moved- Jack is not even really a PG anymore- more of a combo guard off the bench.

This...
doesn’t make sense to me. There’s no reason for the Warriors to trade Baron now… He’s still an elite PG on a team with no other PG. Yeah he’s due a lot of money, but only for one more year after which the Warriors probably wouldn’t want him anyway. And with that large salary and his age other teams aren’t going to give up young all-star quality talent… And the Warriors shouldn’t want to take anything less than that.
