idea for changing lottery

idea to change lottery rather than add more speculation as to who the warriors should draft, here another thought to think about. right now, in case you don't know, the lottery only sets the top 3 teams, after that the draft order is based on record. my thought is what if they used the lottery to decide all 14 spots? teams like the blazers and warriors are basically guarrented their spots with no real chance at a top 3 pick. if all spots were up for grabs the teams that miss the playoffs still have a decent shot a #7 to #12 pick, which can be considerably different than #'s 13 & 14. i just feel its crap for a team to be contending for a playoff spot and then have failing have such a negative affect on their future draft position.

I think it would be interesting to make it all up for grabs. Regarding your last point however, had the Warriors made the playoffs this year they would have had the #20 pick instead of the #14, so missing out did help them out a bit.

good point, but i would have taken that to make the playoffs

yeah, but...

could you imagine the uproar there’d be when any of the worst teams in the league ended up getting a pick in the 10-14 range? the current system gives the worst teams a viable option whether they win the lottery or not. i’d rather have the league give rebuilding teams a shot at a good player than risk someone like the blazers shooting up to the 4 or 5. competitive balance is generally a good thing. the dubs don’t need mayo or bayless the same way the grizz or sonics do. you wouldn’t be making that argument if the warriors were sitting on the 6 right now and desperately needed a legit player.

first of all, I would still make this arguement if the warriors had a crap record. i suggested this idea cause i think it would make the lottery more fair and less predictable

i know that crap teams are begging for talent right now but this would make teams have to give it their all every season, the whole season. and in the end, the majority of teams would keep their draft spots or close to it.

teams like miami are responsible for having a shit season, just cause they want to take a year off doesn’t mean they should get a guareented top 4 pick
