The Native Dubz have been reinstated!
I can never get enough of The Native Tongues era of conscious Hip-Hop throughout the late 80's and early 90's. I was also a big fan of the artwork rocked on their album covers long before photoshop was even around... Big ups to crews like A tribe called Quest and DeLa Soul for inspiring these new Dela Dubz concepts!

It's hard
to find groups like Tribe and DeLa today… I got mad love for groups like Little Brother and acts like Talib and Lupe but finding the next atcq is tricky… who knows these days they list might make a reality tv show on it based on making the band LOL!
Don’t sleep on the new n.e.r.d. album- thats my bump right now! I’m at a crossroads with Lil’ Wayne’s new album- a part of me was like… “man! he;s gangsta and than you hear those love tracks and ask… “bobby valentine is in this?!” (lol) u gotta give it up, he sold a lotta albums last week.

Nice job, Tony!
Don’t forget about the Jungle Brothers, Brand Nubian, Poor Righteous Teachers, The Roots, Souls of Mischief, Hiero, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, Black Sheep, Digable Planets, Public Enemy, The Coup, Beastie Boys, Erik B and Rakim, GangStarr, etc… GREATEST ERA IN HIP HOP.
Bizarreridetothepharcyde might be my favorite album of all time, though.

Golden Ages
There was a Golden Age of Rock. It was 1973-1974. The sixties were over and the subversion delivered both impeccable musicianship and raw male aggression. However, that led to Progressive Rock and Metal respectively ending the upswing of artistic excellence. I would argue Hip Hop crested in 1992-1994. As it permeated through pop culture, Hip Hop artists explored live Jazz, Funk and Soul. Some may disagree, but acts like the Brand New Heavies, Arrested Development, The Roots, GangStarr, Digable Planets and Pharcyde successfully made Hip Hop mainstream and accessible to the world while maintaining lyrical and musical integrity. Other variants since have proven interesting and worthy, but none match the totality of vision that Golden Age of Hip Hop produced, IMHO.

Wonderful insight!
Thanks! I totally feel ya- especially on the integrity part… golden age phrases like “don’t sweat the technique” have way more integrity than someone to hollering “She lick me like a lollipop…!”

Honorable Mention (props to Oaktown) to Freaky Tales and Paris’s first two albums, which were uneven but so good at the top that they deserve mention.

I was always a big fan...
...of Digital Underground’s early albums esp. sex packets… doowhutchalike! also- to add to the never ending list of Hip-Hop (on the Oakland tip!) I gotta add The Coup’s first 2 albums “Kill my landlord” and “Genocide and Juice!”
Remember the Whoridas?! “Shot callin’ and big ballin’!”... They were in my middle list of great albums lol!

Jazzmatazz (Vol. 2)
One of the most underrated Hip Hop albums of all time. Every track is unique. I still bump that joint with Ini Kamozee.

I got Jazzmatazz v1 accidentally. I won a music trivia contest in college and got my choice of some CDs that the college station had extra copies of and it was by far the most interesting pick there. I didn’t really think that Guru could pull it off without DJ Premier (has there ever been a more apt name?) but the whole thing just worked. The disc was stolen a few years back by some punk who probably doesn’t appreciate it. Le Mal!
For those that like streaming funk and hip hop, “Wefunk Radio” out of Quebec is the bomb. The DJs (DJ Static and Prof. Groove) really know their stuff and there’s over 600 hours of old shows archived. They’re really good at mixing tracks in with the orlginal samples.
