Stud or Dud
Gone are the days of Todd Fuller, Joe Smith, and even more recently, Mike Dunleavy. The Warriors got their guy on Thursday when they selected Anthony Randolph with the 14th pick from Louisiana State University.
Stud or Dud? by Adam Copeland
Randolph is a very lanky, athletic player standing in at 6'10 197lbs. Many Warriors fans seemed upset when they passed on Darrell Arthur who was still available at #14. While Randolph may help build a solid core of young players down the line, he has not faced tough competition in his 1 season in the SEC.
Consider this, his LSU Tigers finished the 07-08 season with a record of 13-19 including losing a string 8 straight games from December 29, 2007 to January 26, 2008. The only real competition that the Tigers faced last season were Washington, Arizona State, and Tennessee. In those 3 games Randolph averaged just 12.3 points and 8 rebounds per game. Not a bad mark for a freshman, but the numbers may be inflated because of a 21 point performance in the Arizona state game. He went on to score just 10 points against Washington and 6 points against Tennessee. The Tigers lost all 3 of those games.
I don't criticize the Warriors for taking Randolph, I do however, question what type of roll they will use him in. Don Nelson has a history of not playing rookies as was shown last year by the limited playing time of Brandan Wright and Marco Bellinelli. In college Randolph was used primarily as a small forward despite his height. He's not going to be a dominant rebounder early in his career because of his small frame. He had just nine games last season where he pulled down 10 or more rebounds. If he can develop a better outside jump shot and possibly a low post presence he could be a dominant force for the Warriors.
The Warriors seem to have found their core of the future in Biedrins, Ellis, Wright, and Randolph. If all continue to develop this could be a fun team to watch for years to come.

I think Randolph is going to be solid, I mean he sounds like a very devoted and hard worker. Also take into account that he is very young and with the kind of attitude he has, he will get better everyday. I think it’s a good pick at number 14 considering the other players that were still on the board. I also think Hendrix is going to be solid, good pick in the second round.

put in the starting line up by mid season
He got some offenese game and that is his strength. Get him to hit the weight room til he hit 220 so put him in the SF spot. When his basketball iq and passing ability develop, we might be seeing a poorman pippen on out hands,

He might very well be a solid player. However, he has no real outside game. He’s an average shooter at best and hit only 1 3-pointer all of last season.

The reason why there team sucked was because they had a coaching change in the middle of the season. Not AR’s fault.

im not blaming him entirely, but he wasn’t the game changer they talk about him being.

Have you seen enough of him to know if he is one or not? He had one hectic year in college so you can’t really see him being a great game changer. Plus, all the freshmen who are game changers were in excellent programs with stable coaching, except for Eric Gordon. Mulling and Nellie based their decision off of talent. Remember wasn’t Nellie the one who drafted a skinny 7 foot 18 yr old out of Germany, how about Josh Howard, Tim Hardaway and Spree in the middle of the first round. I bet you anything the Dallas fans initial reaction to the Dirk trade was “we gave up a big bruiser (tractor traylor) for some skinny German kid?”

The Time Is Now!
Stop trying to build for the future! The future is now, and it can’t get any brighter with Wright, Biedrins, Monta, Jack, Baron! All we need is one more star and we are good to go!
I can’t believe the W’s missed out on Jermaine Oneal and Richard Jefferson!!
This draft must be a part of Mullin’s plan to lure LeBron James or Dwayne Wade here! :)

If you want the future right now
trade stephen Jackson, Al Harrington, Brandon Wright for Elton Brand and put AR in the starting line up by mid season. He got the skills to be the next coming of Scottie Pippen, He got all skillsets to be as good as him in the future. Watch him develop a consisted J and three point range, with passing skills. And don’t forget he got the skillset to be great defenese stopper too. So, let the young kid get his pt and we will be back in the playoff by the end of the yrs.
BD
Monta
AR
Elton Brand
Beans
NBA Champs in 2-3 yrs.

First of all, I think its a little soon to be crowning him “the next Scottie Pippen.” Don’t forget Pippen would not have been Pippen without Jordan, Rodman, and the coaching of Jackson. Second, I find it highly unlikely that the Warriors would trade someone with the potential of Brandan Wright to a conference rival, the same goes for Brand to the Dubs. Third, its doubtful that Nelson will put Randolph in the starting lineup consistently. Everyone thought it would happen with Wright, and while he did get some starts, his playing time was ultimately scarce down the stretch.

Jackson, Al, & Wright for Brand?
Thats a little steep. I don’t think that would help our team out at all. Heck, I would rather have JO if EB costs that much. Throw Magette into that deal and then we have a championship team.

Again, I don’t see many big name trades going down with division rivals.

j-o
is terrible. there is nothing left in that tank. he’s been on the injured list for about three years running now. and no, corey maggette does not make us a championship team. that team is a middling playoff team at best.

Jermaine
might fit in nicely since he enjoys chucking up perimeter shots so much. Can you imagine if Harrington and JO reunited on the Dubz, we’d get zero O-boards as they compete in a 3 point shootout on a nightly basis.

good pick
i think this will be a great but slow pick, i dont expect him to average above 15 points per game until atleast his 3rd season. which is great cause we will be able to resign him for cheap and then he’ll keep getting better.

Stud
He was my #1 board for the whole year taht would be there in the late lottery picks. Love the kid hehe.
Too bad a good chunk of GSoMers already hate on him lol.

I don’t think anyone hates him, I think they just question his ability to adapt to the NBA game after not playing a very difficult schedule last year. I think he will develop, but many, like yourself, see him as an immediate impact player. I don’t think thats the case. If I had to guess, I would say that Hendrix will have a bigger impact this year than Randolph because the Warriors NEEDED a player like Hendrix. He will contribute against the bruiser teams like the Jazz and Spurs.

He did average 20 ppg his last 9 games.

20 points a game?
How could he when he hasn’t even played one game yet? College counts for nothing in the NBA.

I’d say he might get one 20 game as a rookie, but thats mainly because he won’t get much time.

Good point joestar. I think we agree on more than you think.

At 18yrs old still growing
reminds me of a skinny KG, he has his mean streak, when he grows into his frame, will be our own young version with better handles.
