Don't judge a good book by its skinny cover

Star-divide

I know some Dubz fans dislike the Randolph selection because they are sick and tired of "rebuilding for the future."  After that era of suckyness, I can't really blame you guys for feeling that way.

It's tough not to have a "win now" attitude after going through such a playoff drought.  But the roster as it currently stands simply does not have enough to overcome the powerhouse teams in either conference no matter how much wishful thinking we do.

While there are no guarantees that building for the future will bring championships down the line, at least it gives the Dubz that chance to develop a skilled lineup to compete for one down the line.  If our youngins actually reach their high ceilings and develop chemistry as a whole, it will be a scary thing to behold.

So why not blow up the team like the Celtics and compete now with Baron and Jax in their primes by bringing in a superstar big man?  As much as we would like to package our guys + future picks and also exchange the TPE for a decent guy making 9 mil, it's not happening because all of our trade pieces are not as valuable out there as Dubz fans see it.

Nobody wants Al Harrington for 9 mil.  Nobody sees Marco as a starting 2 guard in the league or even a difference maker anytime soon.  Nobody thinks B-Wright is going to become Bosh anytime soon either as he hasn't proved anything yet in limited action.  Also, the Dubz are good enough to land in the bottom of the lottery lately so our future draft picks are not worth as much as we'd like to think either.

Even if the Dubz somehow aquired a "Brand", it would most likely have torn the roster up and left even larger holes in it.  Imagine Baron, Jax and Brand trying to compete for a championship with the rest of the roster filled with D-Leaguers.  There are no more Pau Gasol robberies to be made anymore.

So if the current lineup has holes that prevents the Dubz from seriously competing for championships, and our pieces are undervalued in the market, there really is no quick fix and rebuilding properly for the future is the only viable option.  Besides, the Dubz really have not been rebuilding until recently.

During the St Jean years, the Dubz were simply not rebuilding.  You don't bring in decent players past their primes from good teams and call that rebuilding for the future (think Mark Price, BJ Armstrong, Mookie Blaylock + handful of others).  How the hell is "the Bimbo Coles Tragedy" considered rebuilding?  Simply put, the Dubz have only begun rebuilding properly for the future in recent years.

Let's see what these kids can do before we throw them under the bus.  Can you imagine if they all pan out to who they compare to in the next 3 years or so?  We could have 2.0 versions of Iverson, Odom, Bosh and Camby.  That would be worth waiting for IMO.

Just goes to show...

you can’t please everybody. Everyone wants to package players who have no business being mentioned in deals for superstars as if Chris Wallace is GM of every team out there. Our young guys were underutilized and have far less trade value than what even the most optimistic Warrior fans perceive.

Plain and simple, because of Mully’s recent draft and contract mishaps, we’ve been restricted in what we do and when we do (in regards to salary).

Although, he was the one who dealt for Baron. He was the one who dealt for Jack and Al. He’s had his fair share of blunders, but I think it’s obvious he’s trying to make up for them. What if we drafted Patrick O’Bryant 2.0 this past week with Javale McGee? What if we drafted Robin Lopez, Kosta Koufos or Roy Hibbert? I’m sure half the people here would be more upset than they are now with Randolph.

Even with last year’s playoff run, I’m assuming the Warriors are still in the bottom half of teams with the lowest grossing revenue. So if we want to deal for Elton Brand and sign Ron Artest outright and dish extensions out to Baron , Monta, and Andris, someone go give Cohan an incentive to do so. With Cohan in control, you most likely won’t see “Golden State Warriors” up there with the Knicks, Nuggets, Celtics, Lakers, and Mavericks as the teams with the big salary. Cohan is Cohan and that’s that. He always will be.

All I have to say is

Kevin Garnet
6’11”
220lbs

It would take about a year of intense workouts to put about 15lbs of muscle on AR.

Keep Monta Movement.

A couple of

According to the comminsioner of the nfl, 104 people retired last year. 7 due to age, and the rest because of Patrick Willis

dont trip about it

he will be the next coming of Scottie Pippen. he got the most of his skillsets of the 2nd greatest sf already. All he have to do is hit 210 by the begining of the season, than it all good than.

I love this post! Great one Mr. Jennings

The fact that there have been various unrealistic trade scenarios thrown around as well as the uproar over the draft of Randolph is fairly upsetting. I mean… how many of you actually went to the workouts and saw how the individuals faired into the Warriors scheme of things during the scrimmages? I would venture to guess outside of Pree and a select few… NONE! So how do you go on to say that Randolph wasn’t a good (if not great) pick at the #14 spot?

With the #14 pick, you weren’t really going to pick up anyone who was going to make an immediate splash on our team. We basically have gaping holes everywhere, as we need a back up point, swing, and big man.

Harrington is good enough to come off of the bench to be that tweener big man: He works extremely hard on the defensive end as an undersized 4-5 who can stretch the floor and provide the spacing necessary for the Nellie system to work. If he provides an offensive spark then great, if not, he can still space the floor or he can see the bench until the next game. It is unrealistic to trade him and expect equal value. Varajao? That guy has been a big ? health wise (missing approx 30 games/season in 3 out of 4 seasons in Cle) and he’s just as much of an offensive liability as Beans and Wright, if not more. Rasheed Wallace? I would love for it to happen, but WOULD NOT GIVE UP BARON DAVIS AND TAKE IN CHAUNCEY BILLUPS TO DO SO! Mr. X, Y & Z? No one will bite on taking in Harrington’s big contract and NO, the #14 pick and/or Belnelli is not enough compensation for another team to do so. That will leave the W’s with a need to find a back up swing and point and a rebounding big to fill out the bench; and that’s what free agency is for.

As for Randolph, tne thing that everyone keeps saying is Wright and Randolph are the same player. While their frames are similar in nature, they have different skill sets. Randolph has better ball handling skills and has better range than Wright, so Randolph at the 3 is fairly realistic. Sure… it would take him time to fill in and build range to eventually get to the 3pt line… but we have S.Jax manning down the fort at the 3 spot, so we don’t need instant relief there. We do need someone to come in for 10 minutes to rest Jax, but I’m confident in Mulson’s ability to find someone. All the while, Randolph will be learning the game and hopefully building a bright future for our team, seeing sporadic playing time here and there.

Who would people have chosen? According to those who were posting ideas on here… Joey Dorsey (#33), Donte Greene (an even bigger project than Randolph; #28), DeAndre Jordan (a HUGE project and potentially a LARGE LIABILITY; #35), etc. etc. etc. It looks as though Randolph obviously outperformed all of these people during the workouts to earn himself the #14 pick… And with Hendrix at the #49 spot, we very well may have stolen ourselves a badly needed hustle player in a low risk-high reward type of pick.

I for one am excited about this team in 08-09. We should still have our core (Baron, Monta, Stephen, Wright, Harrington & Beans) which is a big plus seeing how they do work fairly well together chemistry wise (we did pull 48 wins out of our ass last season) and with the development of Wright and Nellie/Mullin’s keen eye on bringing in quality free agents on the cheap tip, I have faith that we can do better and make the playoffs so that the younger players gain the valuable experience needed to really build up a team to championship contention.

It's not

a bad pick. Looking at his highlights, he is nothing like wright in his game, he is more of a playmaker, while wright more a finisher. I absolutely love his size with those ball-handling skills, think odom, maybe eventually better. It’s widely regarded that the lakers will be a championship contender for the next few years, and it looks like the warriors are following their lead with big, mobile , skilled players.

p.s.- i can’t wait till summer league, warriors are gonna kill.

If we get the Championships in both the LV and SLC leagues, then that is something to be excited about. It basically means we have a strong group of young players who have bought into and are effective in our system.

You don’t get any better without practice, unless you’re AI of course. ALso considering that half our roster is made of young players that really is something to be excited about.

I can't wait

for the summer league. July 11th we will see what kind of guys we have drafted. Let’s make sure we have the links to the feeds like last year. Does anyone know what other players are going to be on the summer team? Last year there were some players that looked damn decent who disappeared. I remember a couple were rumored to make the roster.
Also, I wonder if they will play AR at the 3 like Mully said in the post-draft interview. I am also very interested to see how Hendrix’s game translates to the NBA. The guy is a beast at 6’9” and 255lbs. If he can score at all, he will be a welcome big man coming off the bench. With Monta being the main offensive force next year, (and teamed with other offensive weapons), maybe Nelly wouldn’t mind throwing a defensive role-player in for a few. I just hope he doesn’t turn out like Lasme, but. if he does, then there’s always Croshere to fall back on.

this team is much closer to title now then 3 years ago -and will be even more closer after 2 seasons -AR is a kid with big potential but no one can say right now who he will be -but he is 14. pick worth 4 sure
actually i really like Hendrix -he might be one of the best second rounders

by Lat We N Trash on Jun 29, 2008 1:58 AM PDT   0 recs

Hendrix sure looks good on paper. Bigger than Speights, played in the same conference and had superior stats. Plus judging from the workout vids he’s got a pretty good head on his shoulders.

by joestar on Jun 29, 2008 6:06 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

only thing what i m afraid is -will he be quick enough 4 Nellie? in pre draft interview he said that he can run any tempo -so we will see
the second only thing i m afraid is -will Nellie put him with AB on court -because it could be a great combination of bulky PF who can create space around him and skinny C who can use his athleticism and quickness to get rebs (as in O so in D) -if it works 4 Hornets why not try it here

also i like that W’s now have 3 young and smart big guys on roster (because if you are big then it’s easier to compensate some lack of athleticism or speed with good court vision and high bball IQ)

build a team & destroy the roof

Hendrix – 6-7/250
Speights – 6-10/245

Hendrix was 250lbs and a shade under 6-7 without shoes, under 6-8 in shoes at the combine. Speights doens’t appear in the combine numbers, so we’ve only got the media guide to judge his height and weight, neither of which I’d consider dogma. 6-10 can mean anything from a shade under 6-8 to 6-10 in socks and as tall as many guys listed as 7 footers. Most accounts of Speights had him listed as a PF/C, which would suggest that he’s in the 6-9 to 6-10 range for “playing height”. Given that conditioning was listed as one of the potential negatives for Speights, I wouldn’t be surprised if the 245 was a generously low measurement based on what the UF coaches wished he’d weigh in at.

For what it’s worth, I’d consider 6-10 245 to be bigger than 6-8 250. I’m not sure what my formula is, but I’d take the 2 inches in height at the cost of 5 pounds. How hard it is for a player to gain weight differs from player to player, but it’s rare that a guy comes into the league and doesn’t at least maintain his bulk, usually putting some on as he matures. Gaining height is far, far less common.

I guess

that some of you guys didn’t see how great Austin performed for the money he was paid. He was hitting tre’s and dunking like crazy. If you guys say that he was old and blah blah blah, then you obviuously didn’t see how he shamed Barnes and Pietrus to the bench. He was Bean’s backup center last year besides Harrington. And he did much better than expected. You guys want to rip on someone, rip on Webber, Hudson, Barnes or Pietrus before he realized he wasn’t going to Dallas. Otherwise, watch the freaking games when you blog so that you don’t dis players who exceeded expectations.

Keep Monta Movement.

by danielholl on Jun 29, 2008 3:33 AM PDT   0 recs

I thought Cro did well for what he was paid. He’s fairly consistent too. The guy is a slow footed natural SF who had to play C for us. While he’s never going to dominate, at least you know you can get some production.

by misterjennings on Jun 29, 2008 9:01 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

don’t dis players who exceeded expectations.

Low expectations are not hard to exceed, so give him a medal!
I’d prefer higher expectations. Do you wanna win or just play cheap?

by Skeptic con Urquell on Jun 29, 2008 10:30 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Lookie here

http://www.nba.com/playerfile/austin_croshere/

Show me somebody else who can do this with a bad back. It doesn’t matter how much he was paid. The bottom line is that he CONTRIBUTED when he was on the floor. Unlike the above mentioned guys. He never took anything away, and played well. I’d love to have him back at 3-4M if he didn’t have back trouble.

by Dubs fan in Boston on Jun 30, 2008 9:15 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I watched about 80 % of Warriors

games last season and I think Cro should even start in most of our games. He definetly attacked the basket a lot more then Al did.

AR

My only question on AR is how did he last so long in the draft and why are other GMs and other so-called draft experts so skeptical? At 18 this kid averaged 16 and 8 with 2 blocks in the southeast conference + he’s a 6’ 10” athlete with sf skills. It seems like maybe we got next year’s top pick a year early. My only question is, is the guy just crazy or does he have some kind of bad character issues or what? It almost seems like it has to be something. Any thoughts?

by gsfool on Jun 29, 2008 3:58 PM PDT   0 recs

Sac-town bought into the Mulson smokescreens and drafted Thompson like ten picks too early. That’s how we got AR.
