The Feel Good Story of the Year… 2003 [Slam]
Leon Powe :: Golden State Warrior (2003)
"If there’s such a thing as karma, Leon Powe will one day lead the Golden State Warriors to an NBA championship. As destinies go, few could be more appropriate. It’s not just that such a scenario would mean Powe had realized his NBA dreams—which, given his size, skill and desire, isn’t all that hard to imagine. But achieving that kind of success with the long-suffering Warriors? That’d be justice. That’d be right. For a kid born and bred on the hard-knock streets of North Oakland, a kid who lives and breathes his hometown, that’d be just about perfect."
=======================================
I will never understand why the Warriors passed on this Bay Area balla in the 2006 NBA Draft. NEVER.

That's cool.
I’ll never understand why you built this blog empire and now use it just to bitch about mistakes made by scouts and management, as if you can change anything.
it's a blog man
to me, that means getting people to discuss. allows us to keep up with warriors/basketball news/rumors. i agree that this particular “story” is a little unusual in that it’s not really news, but hey, it’s a blog. not a newspaper. so chill a bit, it’s all in good fun.
It’s not even objective, though. It’s just complete and total hate. He’s not even a fan anymore. Look at the last 5 or 10 things he’s written and it’s just a blatant smear campaign towards the organization. It’s gross. He’s in a position to feed the masses with positivity but he’s just being a negative, rude, dillhole. There’s absolutely no reason for it, and nothing he can say is going to change the way it’s run. I don’t see why he has to post if he doesn’t have anything good to say.
not to get all philosophical
but no news is objective. we’d all like to believe in objectivity but a lot of our media sources are owned by corporations that have huge investors in the white house linked to particular adminstrations and political parties. and besides, aren’t newspapers filled with editorials laden with individuals opinions?
plus, i don’t really understand all the need for “positivity.” whats the point in being positive for the sake of being positive? that sounds like a synonym for ignorance. if everyone just fed ‘the masses with postivity’ this would probably be the worstly run country EVER. heck, isn’t that what the media does now anyway, and look at us, we’re still “at war” now 7 years strong. what’s the point of not being critical of an organization and how does that make you less of a fan?
and lastly, you claim this isn’t news worthy, but obviously SLAM magazine did before we did. that doesn’t make it newsworthy just because SLAM paid attention to it, but enough people care about Leon Powe and his recent success… such as ESPN.com. If you don’t think it’s News worthy, why don’t you bother explaining why besides just taking random shots? Oh wait, because you don’t actually make any of your own arguments ever.

GSoM
isn’t golden state of mind supposed to be the anti-corporation-owned media outlet? You know, the grassroots community-based perspective… that doesn’t have an agenda except to enjoy & discuss warriors basketball?
And there’s nothing in coma’s language that says Powe isn’t newsworthy. Far from it. But why does Atma’s reaction to every ‘feel-good’ Powe story/clip have to end with ‘we should have drafted him and the fans knew it and the front office didn’t’? Why is it all over the front page?
The same can be said with his jrich obsession… it’s in the past, it was a financial decision, and clearly mullin had different ideas.
its like the warriors are the democratic party and gsom is fox news….
Keeping It Real
GSoM is a grassroots effort started by a group of friends on one fine sunny spring afternoon back in 2005 to talk and joke about our favorite hoops team, which over the years has had this little problem of missing the playoffs and making some terrible front office decisions. The fans have done their part, but for a multitude of reasons this organization has not returned the favor, particularly under Cohan’s ownership. I’ll even go so far to say that I could hand pick a few of the brightest GSoMers and together run a better and more fan friendly front office than the Warriors have over the past decade+.
It’s extremely odd that when fellow fans demand more competence and a better product from a multi-millionaire dollar company that they all support and root for, they’re branded as “Fox News”. It’s also unfortunate that people think there’s some sort of “agenda” because we poke fun at our favorite team’s losing ways and question the front office’s basketball decisions. That’s not an agenda or even anything personal, that’s having fun and being honest. Even more unfortunate is the painting of this “smear campaign” on GSoM without zero facts or real examples, just sensationalist name-calling and trying to take personal shots.
Remember this isn’t the AP, this is the Editorial Page with opinions, analysis, and more than anything else, jokes and passion. If you want uncritical, 100% biased fanboy material about this team, then Warriors.com is your place. GSoM is not.
It seems pretty Fox News-ish for people to ask us to only post views and opinions they personally hold or want to see on the front page of our blog. That’s just unfortunate group-think and contradicts the primary aim of grassroots new media. What makes this whole thing interesting is a diversity of viewpoints (front page blog, FanPosts, FanShots, and comments) which have always been encouraged as long as as they are shared constructively and in accordance with our family show.
Your politics are confused my friends if you’re going to call the Warriors the Democratic party when they’re just another billion dollar corporation that’s looking to take your dollars. Remember if the day comes when they think they can make more green outside of Oakland, they’ll move (see Sonics, Seattle; Charlotte, Hornets; Vancouver, Grizzlies). They’re here to make $$$. We’re here to have the best time possible.
Don’t get me wrong. The Warriors treat us extremely well, particularly their ticket sales team, but if we changed our thoughts/ writing just because they gave us some hookups then we’d be extremely biased and well… Fox News.
Actually it’s kind of cool that people out there don’t think GSoM is the Democratic Party. I think GSoM is more Green Party anyway.
By the way check out Outfoxed. It’s a little counter-sensational (if there’s a word), but definitely worth a view.

Of course: making a judgment call about whether your basketball team should keep or trade a beloved and productive but overpaid player is exactly the same as lying to the public to trump up support for a criminal war of aggression.
I’m not sure who’s more “unfair and imbalanced” — you, Atma Brother, or Fox News. It’s close.

Just follow the money trail. Who stands to gain the most from pushing their position? Fox billions, Atma millions , me nada.
Accountability can be just as important in small matters as in larger matters, one sets the tone for the other. If Mullin treats Jason like a dog the other quality players are not gonna give him as much effort, and why should they? Character attracts loyalty.

Don't get it twisted Sleepy Fraud
You probably should have already been banned for your bizarre F-you’s in the comments to a kid literally half your age or your inane reasoning that detailing what you do in your free time is okay for this family show. I guess it’s one of those votes that I regret like Hillary does her Iraq vote.
I’m putting the over/under at 3 months before you’re banned for doing something wildly stupid a la your homophobic and potty mouth friend coma and abusive boy optionzero. (Glad to see Skeptic back though. His international hoops politics are a little curious which prompted one out of character F-you, but that’s one stand up guy overall. If we could only figure out what his screen name was all about!)
There’s no way Mr. Fraud lasts through the offseason and all the contract talks without some hysteria, flame wars, or personal attacks on someone that prompt a deserved ban. Like Hillary I won’t make the wrong vote twice.

Hold me Atma, I'm scared!
Dude, are you 12? Do you actually think I give a rat’s a—whether or not you ban me? Has your reign as “king of GSoM” really inflated your head to that level?
Once again you prove beyond a shred of doubt that your pathetic third grade choice of “friends” and “enemies” has nothing to do with content, style or substance and everything to do with who sucks up to you and shares your simple-minded views.
Dude everyone with half a brain who has spent time on this site — me, OZ, Pree, JAE, OlympicMike, etc. — eventually sees through your pathetic grade-school antics. I always thought of you as a bit of a dim-bulb, but it took a while to fathom the obscene lack of humility and self-reflection that came with it. It’s really, really not a good combination.
I do give you props for listening to us and shutting your yap in the related diaries section. That place is much better, more interesting, more lively place without your special blend of partisanship, holier-than-thou-ness, and skull-crushing stupidity.
Anyway, if you don’t ban me, I’ll make a concerted effort to return the favor keep out of your diaries (which, truth be told, get only sporadic hits anyway), and maybe this can be the last unpleasant interaction we have. If you do ban me, coming from the one of the dumbest, most provincial, most self-important pr*cks on the blogosphere, I’ll take it as a huge compliment.
Love and Kisses, :-)

Hey Sleepy, That’s a bit uncalled for. We gotta keep in mind that we enjoy this place due to Atma’s efforts. I certainly wouldn’t have the initiative to stick with it like he has.
Even when he banned me last year I felt he was doing a good job and my FU to him was like I’d tell a friend in an argument, not in real anger. I’ve never seen Atma be cruel or pompous to anyone even when they were givin him a bad time. I think he’s really trying to make the world a better place and I’m down with that. For a young guy he’s doin OK, his parents must be very happy.
I’m glad we have this space to messa round in, it’s a perfect expression of the wacky world of Warriors basketball. Thanks Atma, Now that’s all the asskissin you’ll get from me. Back to our regular programming.

I think you may have missed a little of the backstory on this, Skep. Basically, he’s got a huge bug up his a—for me, and I’d be lying if I didn’t admit the feeling were mutual. I personally think this place would be 1,000 times better without his BS-slinging, clique-building, and high-handing people, and I’m sure he feels the same way about me. This town prolly ain’t big nuf fer the two of us. As I said, either we refrain from any future dialoguing or he decides to ban my a—. His call. geez
in my opinion, the problem was never different opinions. it was the fact that some people, you included, end up hating on everyone. hi hater. hi hater. hi hater. hi hater. is there ever a need to take it to that level? i’ve always - up until recently when you started blasting on people for no reason - enjoyed your wit, humor, and insight. why are you so cranky?
why does everyone renarrate history as if coma, option zero, etc. were victims when they purposely used foul language, attack other GSOM members, and are just straight up wackadocious? why do we have to continually recount this? we didn’t ban them because they disagreed. it was the fact they disagreed and would take it personally that we disagreed as if we insulted their mother then unleash expletives and homophobic statements just to feel better about themselves. anytime we ask “can you just tone down the language” they fire back with more expletives and the strawman argument that “thats how the real world is.” yes. thats exactly how i interact on the street when i walk past someone or when im at work talking to superiors or colleagues i disagree with.
honestly, whats the fun in flame wars?
by dj fuzzylogic on Jun 12, 2008 7:39 AM PDT up reply actions 1 recs
Dude
No fun in it at all.
It really is a long-running personal thing between me and Atma. The GSoM line that “up until recently I started blasting on people for no reason” is really historic revisionism. Either I’ve always been a “blaster” or I’ve never really been one. The only person I “blast” here more than I did on Day One is Atma. If anything, I’m more careful these days about my choice of words and the people I engage than I was when I first logged on.
I’ve never had an issue with anything you’ve written, as you’re always fair, respectful and impersonal, even in your criticism. Both Atma and I could draw cues from you.
You and the crew weigh in on his behalf because you’re his friends, which is totally understandable. Friendship and family trump most other crap, which is really as it should be.
Anyway, if you or any of the crew want to ban me, I’m totally cool with it. The Sleepy-ette would do jigs if I stopped posting here. Bottom line: it’s your site, not mine. Cheers.

Mr Fraud- You’ve seriously lost it if you think I’m out to get you or that there’s some “long running personal thing between” us. Well at least you admitted you’re out to get me. Your obsession with me personally is a little odd. It’s disturbing that you can’t go 2 days without posting some type of baseless insult directed at me, GSoM, or some other community member. Somewhere along the lines you forgot that this is a basketball blog where other people are trying to have fun. It’s unfortunate.

Ha, Nothing too deep. I was looking for a place to discuss the Warriors and got a couple of hits. Yours looked like the most interesting with the Unstoppable Baby, Yay area, gas, brake, dip theme, webpins and threads like Zorgon pleasuring Foyle, Baumerworld, John that was making the case for Dunleavey, etc. I was skeptical( as every Warriors fan must be) that it would turn out as good as it appeared but I thought I’d give it a try. I was “con” (with)a bottle of urquell when I signed up so that seemed like an easy way to remember my screen name.

Sasha Vujacic thread. He went off last night. Apparently that’s all that needs to happen for you to take a dump on management. Some bench player had a great game. Let’s crap on Mullin!

![Fresh off his second contract buy-out of the past 2 years, former face of the Warriors franchise Adonal Foyle has been picked up off waivers by the Orlando Tragic to be a practice partner for Superman [Third Quarter Collapse].
Where are all the folks screaming at Nellie for benching Foyle the first second he got here? Can you believe Chris Mullin actually structured a team option for $10.5 million after this season in Foyle's contract offer back in 2004 (see Worst FA's since 1996)? Can you believe Robert Rowell actually approved that deal?
Be on the lookout for this summer's blockbuster movie Dumb and Dumber II: The Mullin and Rowell front office.
