Baron Davis' "True Hollywood Story"

Ah, the agony and ire...I figured that since the fanposter-board has exploded with entries like a case of angry hives, that I'd re-post something I wrote on an old Sheed and Billups rumor thread (Jun 25th).

-----Conspiracy...oh the conspiracies

Let me preface that I am sorry that I will be feeding the frenzy/anxiety with this update and speculation (no need to raise the collective blood pressure of you fellow GSOMers) But I can’t resist passing on this interesting tidbit…

I reside in an exclusive neighborhood in the Hollywood Hills. 5-6 days a week, I leave my house laced up in a weight vest and hike the backside of the hill. The community of Laurel Canyon was once a haven to hippies and musicians and was the hub of LA rock n roll culture in the 60’s. Now it’s a quiet area, an amalgam of homes. Some vestiges of yesteryear, homes that harken back to the golden age of the neighborhood’s symbolic “Canyon Country Store” and others are the more lavish abodes of the neophytes of Laurel Canyon culture, houses that reflect the more recent influx of money.

So, given this blend of energy and charm, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that BD owns a house in Laurel Canyon, a nice 3 level, newly remodeled home nestled in the trees. It’s my impression that he uses this as a getaway from his primary offseason estate in Vegas. I say this, because I will see him chillin’ about his property as I’m hoofing up the hill mid-workout, but only on occasion. He garages a Bentley and an Escalade at his LC home but I thinks he makes the Vegas commute in his silver Prius.

Anyway, 2 days ago I was sweating bullets up the side of the canyon and saw BD talking on the phone at his front door, just beyond his security gate. I never throw up the obligatory peace sign or shout out “Boom!, What’s good with ya?” for fear of looking like even more of a ballsack as I pace up the street wearing what looks to many like a vest full of semi-automatic machine gun clips. I just mind my biz. On this day, my girlfriend was working out with me and, since we work out at different paces up this hill, she was about a 1/4 mile back.

The punchline is finally here! She saw BD as well, grinnin’ as he’s shooting the shit with whomever was on the other line but she also happened to glance up to the second story balcony. Now my GF is a no nonsense girl who could give a f*#k about my passion for the GSW’s but, by default, ends up half watching alot of games with me. She’s also familiar with LA’s celebrity faces. She swears that Kobe Bryant was up on that second story balcony, also talking on his cell phone, grinning that stupid grin of his.

Then this morning I came across this story…

Here is a Lauridsen article with the lastest murmurs suggesting the liklihood of this fantastic (not in a good way) scenario.

For the record, I get that the Laker scenario brings us in the most value with LO's expiring and a promising PG prospect in Farmar.  However, Farmar and ME could never play on the court together (no muscle for the troublesome SG matchup) and short of a massive tidal wave swallowing the Bay Cities, there are few disasters I can dream up that are worse than sending someone of Baron's exceptional star-caliber to the arsehole Lakers and the home of Kobe's "come on...that was a foul" face sucking on his silver spoon.

Furthermore, a talent with the awesome set of intangibles of a Baron Davis doesn't limp into town with the vulnerable "I need to prove something" image on a regular basis (as BD did a few years back).  Nay, I think that scenario is nearly irreplaceable. Here's to the hope that the Warriors don't return to that status of a team bubbling with promise and talent but without the heart, emotion and swagger to realize their potential.

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

LOL

Good luck BD. You just threw 17.8 million dollars out the window to go shopping for a new NBA team that will pay him 14-15 mil a year for 5 years? Ha ha ha. Who the fluk NBA team aside from the Clippers will pay for that kind of contract? Good luck BD!
