OFFICIAL: Baron Davis "verbally agrees" to sign with the LA Clippers

"Sources told ESPN.com that Davis, 29, will receive a five-year deal worth an estimated $65 million" -- ESPN.com's Marc Stein

Reaction?

Now what do they Warriors do? Do they try to pull a "sneaky" and attempt for Elton Brand or Josh Smith? The team is running out of options and it seems like our chances for a championship within the next few years have pretty much left and gone. We're officially in rebuilding mode.

WTF, BARON!???!!???

Baron is teh suck

Does this mean we get Brand?

no

it means the clippers will sign brand and baron

GOOD

I wanted Gilbert anyway!

by Jeremy Belvins on Jul 1, 2008 5:56 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Really

Really, you wanted a guy whose only had 1 full season and averaged 10 pts 3 assts and 2 rebs in the playoffs. Not to mention that he just came off of multiple surgeries on his knees.

by gunwing54 on Jul 1, 2008 6:06 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

That sounds a lot like Baron Davis.

by joestar on Jul 1, 2008 6:26 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Umm...

Baron played 82 games last year, recall??? The best predictor of next season is this season, anyway you slice it.

Facts:
1. Arenas is more likely to sign with the Wizards than the Dubs.
2. The Warriors brought this on themselves by only Boom offering two years. In fact, they invited this. Which suggests they might have a plan, though I can’t imagine what it might be.
3. If they drafted Randolph to keep him, the best strategy is probably to blow this team up and start anew in a few years. Otherwise, we wasted our first round pick.
4. The only way Monta is going to ever be a starting PG is if he gets the (painful) minutes as the starting point. Is that going to happen in a season we make the playoffs? I don’t think so….

Get ready for 2010-11, Warriors fans. Randolph will weigh more than 200lbs, Wright will be whoever he is going to be, and we’ll still have Monta and Biedrins. I wouldn’t bet on those guys forming a championship core, but it is not impossible.

by Mark Borgschulte on Jul 1, 2008 9:17 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

You sure? Cause you did say “I WANTED GILBERT ANYWAY”.

That guy i described? That was Gilbert Arenas.

Eh...

I think it’s safe to say that his supporting cast in GState would be much better than it was on that Washington team. No one can do it by themselves the way the top teams are built now.

RFA

are RFA for a reason. Josh Smith. Andre Iguodala, etc.

You will not often see teams match players of those caliber.

Baron is playing with Brand. Get used to it. They’re both movie producers. They’re both LA guys. Clippers will be back in the playoffs. Time to rebuild.

We should start shopping Jackson and Al. Try to get some lottery picks/future picks out of them.

Does Baron become the most hated man in Warriors hoops history now or do we appreciate those 2 good years?

by GoldenStateDubtronic on Jul 1, 2008 5:58 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

It'd be stupid

not to appreciate what the man did for us, gave his body every night. He took less money to play for the Clips for other reasons be it career, family, or going for the championship. Got to respect what he did for us.

Now we all know

how Hornets fans felt…..Good luck to Baron.

1. He wanted a longer term extension that the Warriors did not want to give him.

2. With Nelly’s proclamation of getting the young’ns more minutes, it signaled that maybe we weren’t really dedicated to winning anything more than regular season games.

3. With letting the TE expire, it just more than confirmed the aforementioned.

4. He wanted to go home.

Can’t fault Baron for making the decision to leave.

You can fault him for waiting so damn long to make the decision to opt-out and that’s what stings most.

We drafted with the notion we’d have him back…

Good luck Baron…and screw you at the same time.

Stop the HATING

What’s wrong with giving him guaranteed money? The man wanted to win he just wanted job security! The front office didn’t want to give it to him and only wanted to milk what was left of him and then let him go. Whose more messed up?

A guy who wanted to stay and play long term or a team who just wanted to milk the guy and then throw him out?

by gunwing54 on Jul 1, 2008 6:16 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

There is no way in hell he was gonna stay healthy and productive for five years. Better to let him go than to saddle the team for the next five years.

by joestar on Jul 1, 2008 6:30 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

nobody knows that. for all we know, he could stay healthy and productive for the next 10 years. there’s probably more of a chance of it happening on a team where he’s not a starter who plays 40 minutes a game because a bad trade deal sent a veteran packing and brought in a rookie that the coach refused to play.

by centerre on Jul 1, 2008 6:34 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Ok

I’m going to take it that all the people posting “I H8TE U BAROM@$” has the same feeling as you. And that feeling is that we should throw out players that we perceive to be in the last legs of their productive years. Milk them and since we know he will not be able to provide for us anymore later just let him go, forget the things he did for us.

I’m sorry, I’m just not that cold-hearted.

Here are the things we DO know. The Warriors only thought of themselves fiscally speaking and didn’t think about a good compromise. For sure the Warriors were not going to give him anything beyond 2 years so lets just dispense with the bull that “He wanted a GAJILLION DOLLORS!!#$#?”. He wanted LONG term where money was never mentioned. He wanted to finish out his career with the franchise that rejuvenated his career and guess what the franchise didn’t reciprocate.

Here’s another thing we know. The front office never for a moment thought about the veterans that wallowed in their incompetence and then fought back for some glory. The moment they traded J Rich away for what was basically cash and a project was the moment that was proven true. It was all for some cap space. Now by not giving BD anything along the lines of “Long Term” they have shown that again they do not care about the past and will only look towards the fiscal future because lets be honest the whole Gilbert thing was a ruse. It was a way to tell BD “We don’t need you so we are definitely not going to give you long term”.

by gunwing54 on Jul 1, 2008 7:04 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Gilbert Arenas....

with Monta on the court at the same time = disaster. Both will always want the ball in their hands and the shots. I say we get Maggette. I think both could do pretty well together on the court.

Not all doom and gloom

Look, we lost a great player and a guy who brought bball back to the bay – I’ll always love him for that.
But, I’d rather lose him a year early than resign him for five years to big money and limit our ability to improve the roster (see Knicks as an extreme example). Maybe we will end up getting a decent pg like Mo Williams and draft our future CP3 or deron williams in next years guard heavy draft.
Also, I think this team still has enough talent to make a playoff run if other guys step up. I guess we’ll see.

It stings really bad losing Bdiddy! Damn and he opted out at the last second hand cuffing the warriors. If the warriors knew this, they could have used the TE or made some trades at the draft. I’m sure the Warriors were caught off guard, but at the same time, I’m sure they have a contingency plan.

The issue at hand is not AGAINST Baron Davis... the finger should be pointed at Mullin...

It was his decision all along. And yes, it was 2 years, 28 mil as the initial contract (14 million a year). Davis put us on the map, so let’s not blame him for leaving us. I mean, how were we going to win the NBA Championship when so many mediocre Western Conf. teams got better after the draft?

PORTLAND – Will get Greg Oden back. Don’t forget about Roy, Alridge AND Jerryd Bayless

MEMPHIS – A growing backcourt with Rudy Gay and OJ Mayo is potentially scary. Don’t forget about Pau’s brother, Marc Gasol as well.

MINNESOTA – Kevin Love and Mike Miller added

LA CLIPPERS – Baron Davis added

SUPERSONICS – Young team with nice young core (include Russell Westbrook)

SACRAMENTO – You never know…

How do you figure all of this in with the LA Lakers, Dallas, New Orleans, Utah, Houston (would be healthy), Denver (everyone intact), Phoenix as pretty much near locks to make the playoffs?

That leaves one spot for all of the other teams above, including the dubs. It’s now to officially rebuild and lock our young players. We can still sign someone though…let’s hope it’s a big-man veteran that isn’t as full of himself and really want to win. So many questions… no answers.

14 Million for an injury prone Davis is not a good contract. He wanted a long term deal. And no way would I give him more then 14 Mil/Yr. It was Norleans that gave us that ugly contract.

by ejdacanay on Jul 1, 2008 6:31 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

This is what I hate about this. I remember the minute Baron’s injury record came up the last two years EVERYONE on this site defended him. Before any of this contract shit happened people on this site pointed to the 82 games this season and the year before where he came back from what was supposed to be a season ending surgery and led the Dub’s 16-5 into the Playoffs and the great upset.

What the hell happened to the loyalty? He gave us that great poster of him dunking AK, ran us to what could have been another playoff year if it weren’t for the 0-6 start and the starters HEAVY minutes and when the man wanted job security everyone that used to love him now wants to kill him!?

by gunwing54 on Jul 1, 2008 7:29 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well I heard to many of "this is just business"

so I can say “this is just fans feeling betrayed right now”.

by buky on Jul 1, 2008 7:39 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Now the question is “who betrayed whom”?

The front office betraying Baron for 3 years of service? The front office telling fans that despite all the talk about “winning now” that they just threw all the responsibility unto the lap of a group of 20 somethings? Baron doing what anyone that works would do? Or that Baron really secretly hated the Warriors and that all that he did was just a show so he can go back to LA.

by gunwing54 on Jul 1, 2008 7:46 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

So why isn't Baron like Brand taking a paycut

He just did take a pay cut.

BD didn’t say it publicly but it was obvious that he was gonna get a pay cut either way. What he wanted was a long term deal. He wanted to stay here not for 2 years and then look for other teams, he said he wanted to retire in the Bay.

That's Fine

Baron served the Warriors well, he made them relevant again in ‘07 and ‘08. But its not the end of the world. Giving him huge $$ is not good. He’s played one full season in the past 6 years. There is a strong chance he breaks down in 2 years and then you’re stuck owing him another $40M? Not strong business.

JRich? Very limited player. Brandon will be better in the long run.

Mully? Think back 3 years ago, it was JRich, Murphy and Dunleavy. Now its Monta, Biedrins and Wright with Randolph, SJax and Harrington. He knows what he’s doing. The Warriors are better than when he started.

Let’s hope somehow the W’s can get Deng; that would be pretty nice.

Key is that Monta next year will be more efficient than Baron.

Nothing better than "The City".

I agree

a long term deal with Baron is suspect. Given that the last time he got a huge deal from the Hornets. He followed it up with season of 64 games or less, until this year.

by ufwa on Jul 1, 2008 6:34 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

yep

This isn’t necessarily Mully’s finest hour, as this was handled quite poorly from a PR perspective, if nothing else. But Mully has dramatically brightened the future of this team in the last two years. And the loss of Baron, while it certainly hurts our present, doesn’t at all darken our future.

by onlxn on Jul 1, 2008 6:50 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Your whole “strong business” argument would have been good if the Warriors didn’t crap all over that logic by offering Gilbert whose only had one full season his ENTIRE CAREER max money/years. I’m not even going to get into Gilbert’s playoff career.

Three years ago we had 3 guys who was projected to be a pretty good core. Two guards and a foward. Now what we have as our core is one known good guard (Monta), about six project fowards (our entire front court), and another project guard (Belinelli).

SInce Baron is gone along with his 18 mil, we can trade for players without worrying too much about matching the contracts. My Proposals.

AL for Marion
David Lee for a draft pick
We sign either Duhon or Pargo
Use the rest of the $$$ to see if we can get Odom.

how about...

belinelli for redd? or cj watson for tony parker? those seem about as likely as al for marion.

Agreed

When they told Gilbert that he was worth more to them than Baron was the moment the Warriors front office shot themselves in the foot.

by gunwing54 on Jul 1, 2008 6:50 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I know it hurts but lets start looking to the future. A year of tanking and letting our youngins learn to play together wont hurt. Next year we will have a high lottery pick (better than being mediocre year after year and missing out on the good stuff) and some cap space to sign some free agents and we could be a very good team. We just need to be patient.

In reality, this isn't that bad

Baron has always been an injury prone player, just because he was healthy (the year he could opt out) doesn’t mean he will continue that trend, especially with the bad karma of the Clippers potentially haunting him.

Perhaps Nellie realizes now is the time to play your young guys. Re-build with Monta, Jackson, Harrington, Wright, Biedrins and endure a tough season next year. Don’t overpay for any of the FA’s this year, none of them are franchise altering, and this team needs that kind of leader.

by Ozzie Montana on Jul 1, 2008 6:37 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

especially with the bad karma of the Clippers potentially haunting him

what bad karma? The guy never said he would stay (I only recall Nellie saying he would stay), he said he would like to stay.

He wants some long-term security. WHO DOESN’T? Hell, I wish I could hire his agent to do my retirement planning—maybe I wouldn’t have to work till I’m 90.

The Warriors dicked him around about a long term contract, so he opted to go for the guaranteed $$$ and security. That doesn’t constitute bad karma. If you want an example of bad karma, here’s one:

Ideally, Richardson said, he would’ve liked to have his agent and Mullin work together to send Richardson to a place he’d like to play, just as Minnesota is doing for Kevin Garnett. But Mullin, Richardson said, remained steadfast in his stance that Richardson wouldn’t be traded, that the Warriors were building around him.

So when Richardson got wind from his agent, who learned from a reporter, that he was Charlotte-bound, and Mullin wouldn’t answer either of their calls, Richardson said he felt betrayed.

I didn't imply he dicked the Warriors....he didn't

He sought long term security because he is aware of his past physical ailments.

I meant to insinuate that the Clippers have always sucked, and there’s been some bad injury mojo there the past year. This isn’t any kind of factual talk, I was just spouting shit.

I still don’t think this makes the Clippers that much better. Baron isn’t the best PG to have when you’re running half-court sets. Brand and Kaman are slow as hell, there’s going to be a lot of pounding the ball in the post.

Come on people...

everyone blaming Baron has to see the full situation. GS low balled him…offering only a 2 year deal…while at the same time floating out a 5 year max deal to Arenas. LA walks in with a 5 year deal…and considering Baron’s injury problems…it’s a no brainer to take it. time to move on people…

by papa leone on Jul 1, 2008 6:46 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

i understand he did it for security

but the way he did it left us in the worst possible situation – after the TE expired and after the draft. We really have no assets to use to get a good point guard except our cap space, unless we want to break up our core.

I love Baron

He outsmarted all of us. He outclassed us. New Orleans fans deserved to feel bad, but he came through for them after Katrina. His problem is with idiots in the front office and coaching staff. Baron is the smartest player in the NBA. We still have till July 9th to keep him folks, but we all know that won’t happen. My love for the Warriors revolves around B. Diddy. I have no attachment to Mullin, et al. Seriously, his movie about South Central gang history will be hella bigger now that he’s in LA. He’ll do for the Clips what he wanted to do for the Dubs. Make us relevant again. We have a nucleus, but we have a gaping void that less than five players in the league can fill.

He was the laziest player on the floor for defense. All he cared about was scoring 3 pointers and stealing the ball… most of the time. And make stupid fouls + technicals.

He sucks?!

If what you said about his defense is true than damn I hate to say what you have to say about Monta’s defense.

I’ll have to agree with you about his happy trigger finger…that he got after playing 60 games into a season averaging 40+ minutes.

by gunwing54 on Jul 1, 2008 7:39 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

You know that Baron wasn’t the only with a happy trigger finger after that 40+ mins a night stretch right?

by gunwing54 on Jul 1, 2008 7:42 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I know it's tough,

but suck it up. Baron did not betray us. He’s a goddamn hero round these here parts for his magical touch during last year’s playoffs and I will admire him forever for that. The management gave him a two year offer, he wanted more years, he made it clear he wanted more years, we didn’t cave in, and now it’s clear he didn’t cave in either.

Now that we have so much salary, we should definitely not blow it on Arenas and just start the youth movement for 2010, when we can be major players and entice free agents to play along with some rising stars including Ellis, Biedrins, and hopefully a couple from the Wright/Randolph/Belinelli/Azubuike/Hendrix/even possibly Watson (lots of time at the PG spot to be had now). Oh, and maybe some veteran role players like S Jack on his downside. If LeBron is looking for a supporting cast, he could do a lot better than the Nets or the Knicks. Come to the Bay LeBron! Deliver us a championship!

- He went 2 years asking for an extension. Didn’t get one and played on. He used his trump card to try and get an extension and the front office response was to give the MAX OFFER on a guy that’s been injured for the past 2 seasons

Lets get this straight. He never stated anywhere that he wanted more money. He stated quite literally everywhere that he wanted more years. He wanted to retire here. The top brass didn’t want him to retire here, they just wanted his best years and then throw him out.

The Silver Lining

After my ffith beer I relaize we just found $18M dollars to throw at players. I will miss Baorn alot but considering we can add 2 quality players I really beleive this team will be better than it was yesterday. Here are some no crazy very doabel ideas. For apoint gueard who can play defense and play qulaity minites for the next 2 years? Chauncy Billups. Detroit has saud he is available. Hell trad AL H for him. Salaries are similar. We would still have 18 mill under the cap. How about Josh Smith, we have alot of money. So if we lose 1 Baron and get a Billups and a Josh Smith I say we are ahead of where we started. We cans till even have money left ofr say a Kyle Lowry or a Jarvis Critteton as a back up. So if you get past the intiial shock and look at what this opens up for us, I say the front office wanted Baron to leave. We can get more quality vets to go with our youth and it would be a better team with the new players. Mully there may yet be a method to your madness!

The fact that he took a pay cut to go to the Clippers, shouldn’t that be enough evidence that he was looking for LONG TERM not MORE MONEY?

The fact that the front office made their allegiances clear should make it obvious enough that Baron almost had no choice. It was either be used like a tool or go somewhere where he might be appreciated. How would staying here make him a tool? The last two seasons he asked for an extension, they didn’t give him one and he played arguably his best 2 seasons of his career. He should have been rewarded for his services. Instead he’s still given the bird and told to just play it out. The moment he plays his trump card Baron’s slapped in the face by the front office when they offered Arena’s $100mil and not even Honor Baron (or the fans) with a sign and trade.

And now? The best excuse or move the Warriors brass can come up with is to try and pry Elton Brand away from the Clippers in a manner that can only be described as “childish”? Please.

Don’t blame Baron about the TE and even the draft. Regardless of Baron the Warriors need in the 2008 Draft was going to be the front line and they were drafting with that thought in mind regardless. The TE? They KNEW before the 07-08 season even ENDED that they could and should have dangled the TE in front of teams for a PG. Everyone knew this and it was even more painful that we got the TE after trading the most beloved player the Warriors had drafted since Mullin himself. And what did they do with that? They let it expire with what frame of mind? That they can run Baron another 40 mins a game? Unless CJ Watson had shown them something towards the end of the year they had no justification whatsoever to let that TE expire without even making a move loud enough for someone on the Warriors beat to write about.

I think the worst thing to come out of all of this is not that we are without our playmaker or the way he handled it. But that we’ve been shown that the front office really has no idea what they’re doing.

-Need for Cap space : If they were really in dire need of cap space then why not a sign and trade or out right renounce Baron earlier instead of steering him into believing that he might get an extension? Again if they really needed cap space then why offer Arena’s $100 mil? Why even make an offer to Elton Brand?
-Future : Had they really thought about the future smartly they would have considered a point guard in the draft or with the TE regardless of Baron. As said before this roster pre-disaster had only one point guard and a slew of SGs. The need for a point guard whether for the future or for back up purposes was made painfully clear for two seasons already and yet they forgot about that and squandered 3 perfectly good chance in this off-season ALONE to try and aquire one. (1) They didn’t draft one (2) the let the TE expire without moving for one of the many PGs on the Grizz (3) they didn’t even try a sign and trade with Baron for Eric Gordon or even Shaun Livingston (or ANY player for that matter).

I’ll say one thing about this whole situation for those who don’t want to read the whole essay I just typed out. The timing of this is what makes this hilariously tragic. I take the word of one Baron Davis who stated that he wanted to stay here in the Bay. A man who played like that for us should at least be given the courtesy of our trust. The moment he opted out and tried the Warriors hand only to be slapped in the face by the Arena’s offer almost immediately should be evidence enough and shouldn’t need to be explained about how well he was received by the front office.

fuhgettaboutit, but real talk there'd better be a effing sliver lining....BELIEVE THAT!!!!,

Naturally, another explosive shock to the Warriors ala Webber to the Bullets as many of you have mentioned. The truth is, the Arenas offer is a move of desperation. You had better offer a friggin deal to the best superstar available because now we’re left kicking rocks with your hand in your pants by losing two of our franchise players in a couple years FOR ABSOLUTELY NADA. This obviously shows that the Warriors , correction, Mullin, got played like a game of checkers by getting played with the declination of the Garnett deal. Now I must admit the Chauncey Billups and Josh Smith might be interesting as smearthebeard mentioned, my only cause for worry is if the intensity and/or chemistry would still exist. Real talk, thats what the 2006-2008 had, which made the team competitive. Now in a very crowded Western Conference, my REALISTIC view is that if you didn’t win with Baron, you can’t win with this team without him. The truth of the matter is, the team we currently have, ” orbited ” around Baron. Albiet if I’m Mullin and Nellie, and if you know the Warriors management from the past 20 years, you should already know and expect this coming from their mouths, ” It is completely unfortunate regarding the loss of Davis, however, as a franchise we have the ultimate commitment in our younger players and trust in Monta Ellis will be the superstar caliber player we hope him to be-—FOR THE FUTURE. ” Could Monta be another AI, probably not, with the loss of BDiddy. Teams like the Lakers, Spurs, and Hornets will be on him like white on rice and force him to distribute. The loss of Davis will affect his game. The Warriors like the open floor but without anyone else penetrating that creates Ellis’ game as one dimensional forcing him to shoot from perimeter or distribute without anyone besides SJAX and Harrington to create. psst yea right. Cuz If I know the Warriors they’re gonna bank on Monta and Company to sell out games and compete. SO Good luck! Let’s continue to Hope GSOM folks and longtime Warrior fans, cuz I swear if this ends up being another 13 year drought , you could best BELIEVE - it was another of our own that gave us the cheers, and then the same player who gave us the jeers.

FYI Baron did what he wanted for his own sake. No question. Being closer to LA, will allow him to focus more on his independent film career producing along the likes with the Hollywood elite i.e Cash Warren, and be closer to his family ie his grandmother. If HE was really faithful, he wouldnt of called Mully, Nellie, SJAX and the team, and told them he was staying. That allowed the Warriors to sit on their friggin thumb and LOSE THE ABILITY TO EXERCISE the trade exception to possibly send Baron to another sub 500 team like we played JRICH. ITS A BUSINESS man, and he’s showed the Warriors the BIDNESS. Baron worked the system and looked out for his own interests, regardless of his supposed affinity for the Bay. Real talk, it was a wash. The Warriors had their playoff push and got their best Regular season record, in turn, the Warriors revitalized his career. So in the end, Mully got played and so did the franchise, so did all of us. Too bad for the Clips he aint got 5 years on him. So to all the Warrior faithful, remain hopeful, definitely remain patient, and for pete’s sake remain logical because if this YOUTH MOVEMENT is what you’re relying on to compete with the West ,youre playing yourself. Especially when you gotta team like Portand with a younger and better squad. OUR BENCH looks like Band Camp rejects. Dont believe me ? Name one of them that contributed last year or better yet, name one that Nellie played ? Now dont say Azibuke because he might just be next years starting SG…..BELIEVE THAT!!!

MULLY HAD BETTER WORK SOMETHING OUT THIS OFFSEASON!!

What happened to J-RICH, another player that wanted to stay with the WARRIORS only to get sent off for B. WRIGHT and 10mil Trade exception that the Warriors never used?
What happened to the good ole days of Warrior Basketball when RUN TMC ran the floor?
Those days were here, those days came back the past two seasons. Baron Davis was a large part of the Warriors’ success. And so they didn’t make the playoffs last season, but they sure had a good run at it.

if i was Baron i would have done the same thing! He wanted to stay with the team we didn’t offer him the contract he wanted so he found a deal somewhere else. Then to top it off the WARRIORS offer the max to another guard (ARENAS) that ain’t half as game as him – What a big slap in the face! The Warriors could have played Baron like they’ve done other players, instead the Warriors got played! I love my team, but I hate some of the decisions they make. Not giving Baron a long term contract was one of them. Good for B. Diddy!

i won’t be suprised if Monta is gone too …

i completely agree

that’s why i said i feel that’s its personal, not only when players make a move, but when the team makes dumb moves too. anyway, i completely understand why he did what he did, i just wish it didn’t have to be that way.

fackin batch

What front office we have. Baron leaves and they offer Gilbert $100 million? Obviously the Warriors don’t want Baron. So Baron had a kiss my ass deal from the Clippers, whats next? How the hell do they offer Arenas when we didn’t extend Ellis and Andris… The Warriors are the joke of the NBA again, its Nellie, Cohen, and Mullin’s fault!

Classic Warriors

FYI Run TMC ended after 3 high octane seasons when Nellie traded Mitch ” The Rock” Richmond to the Kings for an unproven lottery pick in Billy Owens. Thanks to that trade, the Warriors are still being compared to that offensive team.

Richmond is one of only seven players in NBA history to average at least 21 points per game for his first 10 seasons – along with Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, Oscar Robertson, Shaquille O’Neal and Allen Iverson.

Thanks Warriors management. Great job!

B.J. Mullens - #1 Pick

2009 Lottery, Here we come: B.J. Mullens #1 Pick

The Warriors need to be really, really bad for 2-3 seasons. Let the young guys play. Pat Riley knew exactly what he was doing last year, and now they have Michael Beasley. Nellie needs to play the young guys, then quit mid-season.

Starting Lineup:

Monta
S. Jack
A. Randolph
B. Wright
Biedrens

It’s the only way teams get good these days.

yes.

Either build for a championship, or go into “internal development” mode.

We should just hang onto our cap space this year and avoid 2nd tier guys like Josh Smith, Andre Igoudala, and Luol Deng. We’d have to pay them 1st tier money to pry them away anyway.

Plus it will also push us up in the win column, and that isn’t necessarily what we want to do anyway right now. If we truly are rebuilding, we need to send an email that our vets are for sale and get as many expirings, young talent, and draft picks for the upcoming draft.

I would take a flyer on Shaun Livingston though. He could turn into a valuable commodity down the line if he can come back from that horrific injury.

Play the young guys in 08’ and hope to secure a high lottery pick. I’m currently hoping for Ricky Rubio in 09’ and use the cap space to find a true #1 player.

Check out this Rubio highlight:

sorry to say this but

i knew this was coming. But, I don’t think that line-up will get us anywhere. Monta is our only go to guy. Anthony Randolph will need to learn to be really good fast. He got guard handles and create his own shot. Maybe, he could get some playing time and tranform into an scottie pippen like forward. But, Brandan Wright isn’t going to be that good of pf. hell, he probably isn’t going to live up to the hype of what ppl think. Therefore, this is going to be Monta and AR team now on. Those are going to be some ugly upcoming yrs.

That's the Point

Be Really, Really Bad this year and next. Get a couple quality picks in 2009 & 2010. Then, we can be Really, Really Good in 3-5 Years. I’m sick of drafting #14 Overall. I just want 1 Championship in my Warrior Lifetime. That is all I want. And, we weren’t doing it w/ B-Davis, so I’m really not that upset.

by Colorado Fan on Jul 2, 2008 12:23 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

well,

that if we AR turn somehow turn into a great all star sf like Pippen. If he does, we joins the Lebron sweepstake and try to sign him for nearly more than 100 millions. Than, we have the poorman verison’s duo of Jordan and Pippen 2.0 by 2010. anyway that is most unlikely going to happen. haha It just a crazy idea I just cooked up right now.

maybe

maybe we can sign magette for not too much

Ellis
Jackson
Maggette
Wright
Biedrins

maybe a $36-40 million 3 year deal

RUMOR: ERIC GORDON TO GS

just kidding… really though… since clippers are obviously looking to land in the playoffs, might as well go all out like the 08 Beantown Celtics. AL, JAX for Eric Gordon, and Deandre Jordan? clippers unfortunately might pass… but stranger things have happened. Right, Pau Gasol?

not the end of the world

by any means.
first, let’s stop with the “don’t ever quit your job cause you’ll be a traitor” stuff, because that’s simplistic glossed over logic that doesn’t define the situation at all. no one comes to my place of employment and cheers me on while i write actionscript or xml. no one reps a jersey with my name on it. dizzle leaving wasn’t about “feeding his family” it was obviously about going to hell.A. so fine for him, good luck. still, i understand why folks here are pissed.
now we’ve got a ton of cash. there are players out there to be had. we just came off a 48 win season, FA’s will want to come here if we want to make the deals. heinreich comes to mind, so does crawford in NY TK had the same to say.
let’s start the “we can win without boom movement.” because it’s what we’ll have to do.

the stop calling him "beans" movement

heinrich and crawford aren't FA

i realize that, but can be gotten through trades b/c of their expendablity. there are FA’s we can sign + deals we can make, was the point, but not so clear. why don’t they have an “edit your post” button on gsom?

You're right...but

No one cheers for me when I work either but the underlining fact is that he wanted job security which I hope is a feeling anyone in this capitalistic country can understand.

What I don’t understand is why is it so hard for people to understand that he did the Clippers deal AFTER the Gilbert Arena’s offer? He wants to play for his hometown fine by me, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth that his hometown happens to be LA but who can’t understand “wanting to play in front of family”. Now he has the chance so good for him.

And how many times do I have to say this: the move of giving Arena’s that offer is a slap to the face for Baron.

by gunwing54 on Jul 2, 2008 12:21 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

sure, we're saying

the same thing. comparing what stiffs like us do for $$$ to ball players is ridiculous, was my point. job security, hometown are all reasonable explanations of what went down. still though we are talking 12million for guys like him. job security takes on a completely new meaning when you have that kind of scratch in the bank.
i didn’t say i didn’t understand what boom did, but i do empathize with fans feelings of being betrayed. are the fans right realistically, i think the answer is no, but having the face of the franchise leave in such a manner can be sudden and shocking.
now, was it because of the arenas offer? who knows? i’m thinking that boom’s reasons were what he stated, he wanted a long term deal and he wanted to be in LA. the W’s cannot offer the last bit, as they are in the OAK. my gut feeling is you’ll probably have to say it a few more times…

maggette

i would love to see gilbert or josh smith, but i would hafta say maggette because hes a UFA and nobody else (besides the sixers and griz) can offer him a significant deal. if neither of them want maggette (sixers rumored to be after RFA josh smith also) we can lowball him and sign him either to a small deal or the midlevel exception.

also i agree with taking a flyer on livingston. he is tall, quick and a very good passer with the potential to be a very good defender. if he heals at all he could be the perfect complement and backcourt mate for monta.

So I take it

that we give Baron a HUGE chorus of boos when he comes back to Oakland. Or am I just being obvious?

by RollOnYouBears667 on Jul 2, 2008 3:26 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I find it shameful...

that everyone is just jumping on Baron. He didn’t do it all for the money, its the length of the deal that mattered. The Warriors would not give him a long-term deal or anything over two years. I know Mully was probably worried about overspending or getting backlash that he made another dumbass move like the oversized deals he handed Murphy and Dunleavy but this deal would have been worth it. Sure, there would have been some fans that criticized Mully if he gave Baron a long term deal, but they would have been outweighed by everyone else that was so glad to have him back. No player ever brought what Baron has to this franchise. He brought so much fire and heart onto the court with him each game. I’ve been watching the Warriors since I was in 4th grade. I’ve had to sit through Todd Fuller, Bimbo Coles, Erick Dampier, and so many others. When Baron came to the Warriors, I was excited. We hadn’t had an All-Star caliber player in years. He had so much life in him. After a year and a half under Montgomery, Mully brought back Nellie and a whole new brand of Warrior basketball was born. I’m not ready for that to end, and I think that the Warriors should have pounced on Baron the second he opted out, instead of sprinting to Arenas and Brand. I don’t want him to leave, but I also don’t blame him. After being the heart and soul of the Warriors and leading them to their greatest run in years, for them to say that he isn’t worth their money and that him retiring a Warrior isn’t that important to them, I imagine that would sting Baron just as bad as him leaving for the Clippers is stinging us. I wish you good luck, Baron. And thank you.

by dindin on Jul 2, 2008 8:36 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

The Arenas offer...

to agree with gunwing54, really is a slap in the face to Baron. It basically says “Fuck you, you wanna leave? I’m gonna throw 5 times as much money at Gilbert. Go ahead. You ain’t shit.” Gilbert and Baron are both great players, but in different ways. I, of course, would rather keep Baron, but if somehow, the Warriors miraculously land Arenas AND Brand (I doubt it), that lineup is a tad scary:

G Arenas
G Ellis
F Jackson
F Brand
C Biedrins
