Please…please please PLEASE…give him a good welcome when he comes back to Roaracle.

you know
i actually dont feel the need to give him all that warm of a welcome. i mean, he did treat us well in the last 3.5 years, but he did also abandon the dubz very abruptly. he is at least partially to blame for the manner in which he did it, and i am a little pissed at BD for handling it in this way. he should have opted out a while ago to give the dubz a fighting chance for the upcoming season.

think like you're in that situation
and you’re working for those paychecks, you’re not working for the betterment of the warrior’s front office and their fighting chance. Firstly its a business, there is no term “abandon” in the NBA, everyone plays for money and as much of it as possible. If you want to be angry at someone, direct your thoughts to the warrior’s front office. Mullin&co have been lowballing the entire team for the past 2 years including Barnes with his 3mil contract after his breakout season as well as Pietrus with his 1 year tenure. Bdiddy just decided to leave and go home where he felt appreciated and with a front office that is actually dedicated to being in the playoffs. I mean the only reason you even harbor such negative feelings towards bd is because of how great he was to the organization and its fans. If he did nothing for us, you would be treating him with the same amount of hate that you gave speedy when he left. Cheer the guy if you call yourself a warrior fan, its only right

i agree with you to a certain extent
you’re right in what you said about the warriors organization being ridiculous and stupid, in essence. but i do blame BD on the way in which he handled this situation. opting out at the very last second will almost inevitably hurt the warriors. this wasn’t some “long time coming” situation. it wasn’t even really a “question” whether BD would opt out. about a month ago (maybe a little more) baron SAID he would not opt out. a few weeks ago, his agent said he would not opt out. as recently as a week ago, his agent said that it was very unlikely that he would opt out. as recently as a day ago, after opting out, BD reportedly said that “golden state is where he wants to be”, then makes a deal with the clips hours later. I’m upset at BD for all that.
If he announced that he was opting out as late at draft day, I would tip my cap to him and say “happy trails good sir and thank you very much”. but the way in which he did it does more than help himself… it hurt others. so i forgive me, even though i will probably cheer the guy, i will still call myself a warrior fan if i choose to not.

The timing was pretty bad
I do agree with you on that one. Maybe he secretly knew what he was planning to do all along ever since he got benched by nellie in that infamous game. Maybe over this past year, playing all the games and essentially “proving” his worth he felt disrespected that he wasn’t getting his fair value for his last contract in the NBA. This was his way at getting back at Mullin and them for not doing their jobs not only to his bank account but to the franchise for not assembling a championship contender. I truly believe that all the blame lies in that incompetent front office. Its the only constant in the warriors not reaching the playoffs, they had to have breakout seasons from players nobody wanted in pietrus and barnes plus the emergence of another low payroll star in ellis along with an unwanted jackson and harrington to break the drought just to get to the playoffs. It starts with Cohan and his fear of his wallet, but it ends with that front office and its incompetence. They could’ve gotten Brand and kept bdiddy… im sure of it which is why I’ll always cheer Baron Davis

Suck it Baron. We couldn’t draft a PG because of you, we couldn’t use the TE because of you, and you let alot of Warrior fans down. You should’ve given the front office warning before your pulled this off.
by ejdacanay on Jul 2, 2008 12:10 AM PDT 0 recs
I agree
He really left us high and dry. We could have used the TE. We could have tried to move up to get a PG. I tell you what the Warriors sure would have listened to that rumored deal with Detroit a whole lot more if they had an idea he was going to do this. Billups and Wallace sure looks good about now.

If the Warriors had used the TE, we’d be in worse shape right now. Instead of having 10-20mil in cap room to try to do something, we’d have that figure cut by whatever we’d used the TE for. Given the situation, using the TE would have screwed us even more when he opted out.
The rumored Detroit deal NEVER COULD HAVE HAPPENED. It was a deal involving Davis and he was untradeable (from a legal standpoint, not the colloquial “untradeable” as in “bad contract”) unless he gave an official waiver of his opt-out. The Warriors never had the legal right to trade him to Detroit.

PG at 14?
what point guard at 14 would you have picked? on most draft boards, the best available talent was randolph and im not sure if there were any guards worth a mid round pick. i understand your rant but as fans we should understand that it was a life decision.
trust me, i was pro-BD and my girl has his jersey!!! now i got to buy her a monta jersey hoping he wont opt out!

I want to hate on Baron
but I just can´t right now. He played his heart out for this team.
But if I can´t hate Baron, who can I hate? I really need a Kawakami in depth Talking Points because I am simply baffled by the state of the Warriors right now.
So many thoughts swirl through my head. Was this the party line all year? If we don´t contend we blow things up for 2010 when Monta has emerged and we cang et a good free agent? Did Nellie have something to do with it by benching Davis in Pheonix, I thought the two of them were close.
So was Nelson just doing Mullin a favor by distancing from BD and easing up on Monta? That´s not the kind of guy that Nellie is, right?
Does that mean that there was some shady stuff going on in BD´s closet that never came to light?
I just keep coming back to the front office and Mullin. I see wild images of some sort of scheme that Mullin cooked up when Nellie first came back. Let´s make this team relevant again so I can blow it up and fix all of the horrible contracts and start over with a team that free agents might want to come to in 2010…..
Mully has been lowballing everyone on the Warriors from the day Nelly made them a winner. Couple that with sub-par draft performance and it really seems like Mully mad every effort to distinguish the team unity that was created by the Playoff Run.
Did Nelly and Mulyl decide that this teamw as just not good enough to compete? Do we see a full-scale blow up by shipping Al off for PG help or a draft pick?
Like i said before, please Tim K., help me out on this one.
by belli nellie on Jul 2, 2008 7:52 AM PDT 0 recs
Mully mad every effort to extinguish the team unity that was created by the Playoff Run?
Yeah, After the Utah series they were one good big man away from being a force then they blew it. I think they din’t want the pressure of being on top. Getting rid of Jason and drafting for the future is a lot easier to live up to than signing that final guy and going for it, also saves a lot of bucks for the cheapass owner. Now they gotten to the point where there is zero expectations for the next few season so they can look competent with little effort. There’s always sucker to fill a few seats to pay for a low priced low expectation squad. Wonder where that Renaldo Major kid is these days?

Good Luck Baron!
I have no hate for him. Warriors organization obviously showed that he is not in their long term plans so he did what is best for him, same way any one of us would do given the situation. He gave us 3 years for the best bay area basketball, he left it all on the floor, and then some. Thank you Baron, and good luck in all your future ventures!

For assuring us YOU weren’t opting out when there were rumors of other teams’ interest in YOU. Thank YOU for then opting out hours before the opt out deadline, so we had no chance to get anything in return for YOU and YOU could then go to the team YOU wanted to play for. Thank YOU for everything.

i know it sucks he left ...
...but consider the years the clippers gave him- 5years. Baron is 29 that means he will be 34 when his contract is up. Barron isn’t exactly the fasted PG on the floor. I can see him losing at least a step over each year of that contract. Trust me as a kings fan watching Bibby’s now slow ass trying to drive the last couple years was awful. Baron’s departure is a blessing in disguise for the warriors. This also allows the warriors to develop their young talent. Monta is going to fill the PG spot and biedrins, wright, and now anthony randolph make this a team with a great potential future.

thank you
Lotsa childish posts on here, but then again 1) this is the internetz and 2) people are shocked. Eventually, those of you over 16 years of age will come to realize that this is a business. And as such, people make business decisions. Can’t get over that? Well I can’t help you.
Baron played his ass off for this team. He helped bring my friends, my family, and myself a crazy good time for two years that almost made us forget how shitty those 10+ years were. I can’t thank him enough for that. I moved to Dallas in April of last year. He and the dubs made for quite a welcoming party for me, a 24 year old dude who had no idea what he was doing in Texas. I’m not allowed at many area bars anymore (rubbing it in the face of mavs fans was too good to pass up) and I’ve got him to thank.
He left it out on the court. He gave me a knockle-knock at NIzzario’s w/Andris Biendris in the middle of the night after a Kings/Warriors game. 2pac said it best…”do your thing. i’ve got nothin but love for ya. i ain’t mad at cha”
"They can trade me," Bonds said. "I don't think they will, though. It's not like I want to be traded, man. I'm a Giant. I'm stuck here till the end."
by GameSix on Jul 2, 2008 11:25 AM PDT 0 recs
business decision? sure
but being a fan is about feeling emotions for your team. So that’s what’s happening here. Doesn’t make it childish.

You f’ing suck donkey ballz. Thanks for thinking of #1. I hope you do well for 2 years then fall off the charts as a top tier gaurd while the Clippers have you on the books for another 3 years kicking themselves in the arse. BD, good luck, but your a total schmuck in my book. No respect for you anymore. You basically are a money hungry selfish arsehole that singlehandedly ruined the Dubs in many many ways. F’er!!!

Thanks for the memories and don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out
i don’t blame anyone for feeling the way they are right now, because this was like a punch to the stomach from an unexpected place. Just because the logic makes sense and Baron is from LA and can do the Hollywood thing and this makes more sense for him. . .but we’re Warriors fans and we root for the Warriors.
What he just did screwed the Warriors royally. Sure we have cap space to go after some “top-tier” guy (and that is relative to the market out there. Iguodala? JSmoove? not real top guys like the one who just left, no way, no how). The leader of our team first told his teammates and his employers that he wasn’t going to opt out, but then goes and does that as part of a plan to “get his”. He is delusional if he thinks fans will be ok with him for doing this—especially if the w’s go on a mini-downward path next season and the clips get better. That first game back, I might give him a polite clap when he’s introduced, but then I’m booing his ass off for the rest of the game. He might be a savvy guy, but that just means that I don’t buy his smooth shtick for the cameras anymore.
Its like you dated this mad hot honey for a summer and everyone is looking at you and thinking, “how did you get with her” and things are going well. you keep thinking “this can’t last” but somehow it does. But then at the end of the summer she breaks up with you and starts seeing another guy the next week and says, its not you, its me. You remember the good times, but you still can be bitter for how it ends.

Hey, I'm not going to opt out of my contract
PSYCH!
In all seriousness though, Baron Davis did what he thought was best, and he did do everything to keep the Bay Area upbeat while he was here. Like most of us here, I don’t appreciate the fact that he told the whole Bay Area that he wasn’t going to opt out of his contract, but if you were in his situation you probably wouldn’t have either. He was a Bay Area icon who was part of the team that brought the Warriors out of the worst playoff drought in the NBA. It would have been worse than finding out that FDR had polio or something.
However, in a few years or so, I can just imagine people saying, “Hey you guys remember Baron Davis? He was a real asshole.”

if they get brand back
which is essentially a foregone conclusion at this point, plus thornton, bdiddy, eric gordon as his backup, and kaman… i mean that is a pretty dangerous team. Most likely a 2nd round exit at best but its better than fighting for 11th place which is where the current warrior’s roster is heading. There is no chance Bdiddy signs which the clippers if he had any doubt that brand wouldn’t be in the same uniform come next season. Getting Arenas wont help in the win column either, it will provide some 50 point outbursts im sure but no playoffs or anything really productive. Nelly and his small ball style needs to retire to Maui asap if the warriors ever plan on getting anywhere.
