Chris Sheridan of ESPN: Warriors/Clippers Trying to Land Marion?

Thanks to an earlier heads up from JimBarnett2KevinGarnett, the Warriors and Clippers are reported involved in "murmurs" to potentially land the Miami Heat's Shawn Marion.

Video interview from ESPN.com:

http://sports.espn.go.com/broadband/video/videopage?videoId=3480888&categoryId=2459788&n8pe6c=1

Apparently the chances of the Warriors landing him would be based on what happens with the Ronny Turiaf signing sheet news.

What is everybody's thoughts on this? Is this a realistic possibility for the Dubs if Marion plays the 4 and sets the perfect example for lanky players Wright and Randolph?

not really

Marion plays a little bigger, is a much better defender and shoots from outside more. He doesnt attack the basket as well as Maggette either. Monta, Jack, Maggette, Marion in the same lineup would be fun to watch if nothing else.

we'd have to give up some big pieces

plus marions about to make 15 mil this year…can we even afford that?

Well we'd probably give up

Al and/or Jack, so thatd probably clear more than enough room. Miami would probably be most interested in Beans, and unless Beans insists on a Bogut type money extension, I wouldnt want to do that.

The Deal

We would probably trade Harrington, one of our rooks (probably belinelli), and S&T somebody else to make the salary work, and then throw in a first-rounder to make the trade fair. It’s a lot, but I like having Marion for one year, and then getting flexibility to do whatever if we don’t resign him. The future FA markets are bigger, and what we lose isn’t that much, unless we’re a 8+ spot in the lottery. The pick will be protected so if we blow it, we still get our 1st rounder.

hate to see Jack go

seeing as how he resurrected his career here, but he does play the same position as Maggette (I’m not sold on Nellie’s plans to put him at off-guard), and we have Maggette signed long-term.

but if it takes Jack and Harrington to get Marion, I’d consider that in an instant. Marion can run all day, shoot the 3, and play defense at 4 different positions.
