Arrived in Vegas ..

Hey everyone,

I just got to Vegas to cover Summer League and I wanted to open the door for a little participation on your part as far as what you'd like to hear about the Warriors' Summer League team. I've done this before - I'll try to ask some of the questions you come up with to the people you'd like to ask those questions to.

I can't guarantee that we'll get to everything you put out there, but I'll do my part. Not every player will be made available to the media. In any case, I assure you that HOOPSWORLD will have you covered to help you feed your Warriors addiction :)

Cool? Leave 'em in the comments ..

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Which hotel do the W's stay at?

I’m going next week and was hoping to catch them on the strip…

Also, is Randolph the real deal? YouTube has me sold, but I can’t tell how that will translate to the NBA. Updates on his performance would be interesting.

Hotel

I can’t tell you which hotel they’re at, man .. the team would get upset with me if I did that.

Will do about Randolph.

Haha

You are an interesting combination of skeptical and a little mean. Either that or totally lost.

MANDALAY BAY ...

Sophomores

How are Belinelli and Wright looking to contribute now that they have a “year” of experience

by FoyledAgain on Jul 10, 2008 2:38 PM PDT   0 recs

Yes

Definitely will keep an eye on this for you

Louis Amundson

the guy is 100% GO…100% of the time. We like him. Share your thoughts with GSOM on Louis and DeMarcus Nelson (this kid has great defense!)

by streetballer on Jul 10, 2008 2:38 PM PDT   0 recs

Both

Those are the two roster invitees that have really caught my attention. Louis is tough-minded and plays great under the basket. Will be a fan favorite (went to UNLV). Nelson’s ball-handling will be scrutinized – if he can do it, he’ll have a roster spot waiting because of that shooting ability.

by pree on Jul 10, 2008 2:44 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

they do

seem to be really interesting fits, but does amundson have much of a shot if turiaf fills our “bench energy big” void? i think i’d be a lot more excited about him if that were the case, though everything i’ve heard about him makes me want him on the team if there’s an open spot. if nothing else, he could be our really excited 13th man.

as for nelson, if he performs well, will he get a shot to compete with watson for the backup point spot if that doesn’t get filled in the coming weeks? he could be great for that.

by cap'n hack on Jul 10, 2008 4:59 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Hm

Don’t think Nelson can play the 1, but we’ll see how it works out for him ..

Amundson makes it even easier to deal Harrington .. you’d have a bunch of young bigs and would be able to move the Harrington for a PG exclusively

by pree on Jul 10, 2008 10:03 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

oh and

thanks for keeping us all filled in. this is great for everyone and i’m sure that everyone here is really excited to hear more updates.

by cap'n hack on Jul 10, 2008 5:00 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I have a couple questions...

Which every one you get to ask would be great…

1. Chris Mullin – What is take as far as filling the back up PG position? Is he looking into a player such as Shaun Livingston?

2. Don Nelson – If Harrington is traded away.. Who does he see as the next player in line to fill in the role of that PF position?

3. Anthony Randolph – How does he like it in the Bay Area, and what does he see as his biggest + about his game?

4. Sophmores & their take on the first year as an NBA player and what we can expect as fans for this up coming season.

5. What’s up with DeMarcus Nelson? I’ve liked his game in college and I’m wondering what your take on him and his game

Stop crying about it alright?!?! GO MULLIN.

by jeppalepala on Jul 10, 2008 2:40 PM PDT   0 recs

I'll try

Mullin is in NY and I’m not sure when he will be arriving, so you might have to wait a few days for me to talk to him.

Nellie will probably say that Al isn’t going anywhere, etc. Any talk about Al will lead to Nellie saying something to the effect of “he’s my starting PF”

by pree on Jul 10, 2008 2:46 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

asdf

I just want updates on the physical look of Wright and Marco. Specifically Wright, I’ve heard a lot of talk about him trying to bulk up…has he seen any results? Let us know how the boys are looking on the court.

"Oooh, watch yo biceps Buk, watch yo biceps Bukie."

by tobin on Jul 10, 2008 2:40 PM PDT   0 recs

updates!!!

bwright & bellie how are they progressing?
ar whats his real shooting range? how’s his handles?
hendrix can he hold his own inthe paint? whats his range?

that would be really cool

thanks pree. to make your self available like this is really cool for those of us who cant be over there

by Rach on Jul 10, 2008 4:46 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

hmm

question for nelson- does he think randolph can contribute right away and how good has he done so far in practice. i also wonder about the status of azubuike and if he does resign with the warriors, will he be backing up the 2 spot where marco will once again be thrid string or backing the 3 spot of maggette who has a history of injurys. thanks i appriciate it.

by GSwarrior on Jul 10, 2008 3:03 PM PDT   0 recs

Nelsons been impressed so far

in his interview wit either janyn hu or kawakami, he said that hes been really impressed with randolph’s skills so far. pree could give u a better answer probably tho….although both he and don nelson have a tendency to lie from time to time

by 3Kings650 on Jul 10, 2008 3:20 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

and what Nellie thinks of it all

Can you please beg someone (anyone!) to get Shaun Livingston signed. He’s the perfect complement to Monta and we can wait for him to get fully healthy and not rush him back

By the way

reccomend this post. It’s greatness.

by boomdizzleness on Jul 10, 2008 3:34 PM PDT   0 recs

My question

Whats the Starting 5 look like and whats the 5 ending the game look like? Is it the same 5?

And +1 on Shaun Livingston, he’s a gamble but would be a perfect fit.

Put a little mustard on it

by The Barnes Supremacy on Jul 10, 2008 3:45 PM PDT   0 recs

For now

Monta, Jack, Maggs, Harrington, Biedrins

probably the same to end games but you might see Al finish with B-Wright starting .. all contingent on a potential Al move

by pree on Jul 10, 2008 10:04 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Demarcus Nelson

regular updates on his performance and what you think his chances are of making the regular squad would be cool. I like the kid a lot, but with Monta, Marco, CJ, and Jack already almost guaranteed spots and another true PG probably on the way I doubt theres much room for him. I heard Asmundsen was holding out for a guaranteed contract…..did he get it? Thanks Pree! Its really awesome having an insider so willing to participate and share on this site.

by sam23 on Jul 10, 2008 3:51 PM PDT   0 recs

You're welcome

and I’ll do my best with Nelson and Amundson – Louis hasn’t signed a guaranteed deal just yet to my knowledge

by pree on Jul 10, 2008 4:33 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

question

Pree, good looking out man. Thanks for the updates. Do you happen to know if the games will be archived online? I don’t want to miss tomorrow’s game, but the 1:00 start time is killer!

by bayareaballa on Jul 10, 2008 4:01 PM PDT   0 recs

Don't know

Sorry, but I recall last summer the games were archived on NBA.com .. stay tuned .. I’ll see if I can find out tomorrow

by pree on Jul 10, 2008 4:33 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Yes!
Additionally, every game played during the Las Vegas Summer League will be webcast live on NBA.com – with each of Golden State’s contests archived on www.warriors.com following the conclusion of the game.

"so naive"

Hey man if you don’t appreciate his stuff just don’t read it. Pree has been around here (among many other places) for a long time providing us with insight and access. He is not exactly in a position to have to “prove himself” to you. Who are you again??

"...OlympicMike is clearly the Barack Obama of GSoM"-Sleepy

by olympicmike on Jul 10, 2008 11:01 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

seriously

why attack the guy for answering everyone’s questions while he’s at the summer league games? “if you don’t appreciate his stuff just don’t read it,” is the perfect sentiment. if you think the guy is full of crap and doesn’t know what he’s talking about, then just let it go. why would you tell everyone that you don’t trust him and that you don’t care what he has to say (which isn’t exactly what dubsack said, but very close to it) then demand pictures from him? generally, that’s a bad way to ask for a favor.

by cap'n hack on Jul 10, 2008 11:08 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

-sigh-

The “so what have you done for me lately?” sentiment that’s been hovering around this site is getting really irritating.

Look at the coverage that Pree’s done in the past few years. Trade rumors. Interviews with the players. Summer league live blogs. And a ton of other write-ups with information that we as sofa fans normally couldn’t get access to. Like OM said, who are you again?

It never occurred to me that one man could play with the faith of 50 million.

by imovermyhead on Jul 11, 2008 10:03 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah, right

I bet he’s just some guy with a computer sitting on his lame ass couch.

You don’t have to agree with Pree or anyone else, just don’t go around insulting folks for their job. It’s not Pree’s job to cater to your every need, it’s his job to follow the team as the team allows. Don’t be ungrateful for his contributions to the site, or he just might leave.

by pree on Jul 10, 2008 10:06 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Fair enough

but everyone makes mistakes, few who have access to the player make themselves as accessible to Dubs fans as you. We really appreciate it. I think it makes us all feel kind of like we are getting a glimpse behind the scenes. I still remember the excitement during last years draft when you were blogging live from NY and passing along all the rumors you were hearing on the floor. That was fun.

by olympicmike on Jul 10, 2008 10:18 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Ha

I can’t do that for Summer League – league won’t allow it, but I’ll do my best with daily updates, that’s for sure.

by pree on Jul 10, 2008 10:25 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I figured

The whole “live blogging” thing doesn’t really lend itself to summer league the way it does to draft night even if you were allowed. I’m definitely looking forward to reading your impressions of the young guys. I think a lot of our success this year will hinge on Wright’s improvement and Marco, Hendrix or Randolph making a reasonable contribution. I’m looking forward to your take on their progress. Thanks again Pree.

I'd be interested...

...to just get a general idea of the optimism levels between this year and last year. Do the Warriors staff seem as concerned about losing Baron and potentially playing Monta at the point as some of us do?

by Zack Vank on Jul 10, 2008 4:08 PM PDT   0 recs

Hm

They’ll say that every season comes with a positive outlook, but I’ll see what they say

by pree on Jul 10, 2008 4:35 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Where are you going to be sitting tomorrow?

I’m flying into Vegas tomorrow morning to go to the summer league games as well and I would love to shake the hand of someone as passionate but vastly more knowledable about the Warriors as I am yet down to earth enough to post on here constantly answering questions and filling us in w/ enough insight to get through the day.

Other than that, what exactly will the Warriors be looking for during the summer league games outside of how well their own rookies perform? Will they be scouting potential swings and point guards? Or will they leave that up to free agency? Nellie did state during that interview w/ Kawakami that we need to pick up a bunch of players at the league minimum.

Lots of roster spots

Depending on what happens with Al, I expect three or four spots to be open and maybe two of these guys make it .. as far as what the Warriors want to see from them? I’m going to say consistent outside shooting is a must :)

You’re my hero! I’ll say wassup if I spot you. I only got the $15 tickets though… not ballerish enough to go courtside for $100 (well… because I’m planning to spend about $400 on alcohol min this weekend).

by pree on Jul 10, 2008 10:25 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Thanks for this, Pree!

Apart from making Monta the starting PG, how will Nellie adjust his gameplan now that Baron has left? Will it emphasize the play of the guards as before, or will it focus more on the frontcourt of Maggette-Biedrins-Wright?

It never occurred to me that one man could play with the faith of 50 million.

I wouldn’t think indians would wanna use any form of “american” to describe themselves? Isn’t that the european name for this continent?
Sorry but when he said look for an Indian I was just wondering why an “indian” in Vegas would stand out ?

by Skeptic con Urquell on Jul 11, 2008 9:39 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Funny, in all the time I’ve worked with “Native Americans” (substanial), they all referred to themselves as “Indians” or referenced a particular tribe. I’ve had more than one person tell me that they can spot someone who’s never worked with Indigenous peoples in the Americas by their use of the term Native American. It’s seldom heard on reservations.

If you’d rather be called “Native American”, that’s fine. But I wouldn’t consider the term necessarily one of any disrespect. Your opinion isn’t universal.
