Trade for Krstic and M.Williams?

Yet another trade post, but I haven't seen this one yet.

Sounds like the Nets are interested in a sign-and-trade for Krstic, as they work to clear up cap space for their 2010 run at LeBron...  Why haven't we heard any talk about him?

Word is that the Nets are waiting for someone else to make an offer to Krstic, and set his market value.  The 76ers were looking at him closely, but obviously that deal is off now that they have Brand.  Clips are the other logical alternative, but Okafor seems like he might be their first pick (or Smith, though my money is on Okafor).  But what about the W's?

Now hear me out:  Krstic is 7', weighs about 260, turns 25 this month, and can bang underneath.  He's also got a solid post game and very reliable mid-range jumper.  His PER has been *hot* up until he got hurt -- an ACL injury two years ago, so this is all contingent on how he checks out...  His injury slowed him down and took him off some radars, but when healthy he was looking like the real deal.  Oh, and did I mention that he can run the court.  Kinda like Biedrins with a mid-range game...

Yes, he throws another wildcard into the mix down low.  But why not get another big with a midrange and a decent hook -- esp. if he's a contributor?  He averaged 16/7 in 32 mins/game his second season in the leage, and shoots close to 50% from the field for his career, although he doesn't shoot the 3.

Meanwhile, the Nets are also looking to unload Marcus Williams.  He's a 22 year old  6'3", 205 true PG with good vision and a good handle.  Maybe a little smaller than we want, and not necessarily known as a fabulous defender, but he's a decent asset that lost value when they picked up Devin Harris.  Could make an ok backup plan for Monta, who has potential to grow into more...

Now, I've been the one BEGGING the Warriors not to trade Al for scraps, because his expiring will be very valuable next year.  But these aren't scraps, esp. not Krstic.  And as it turns out, the Nets are looking for a wing who can score *today*.  I'm sure Al would love to get back to his true position, and he also fits the Net's gameplan to clear cap space for the 2010 free agent run at LeBron.

So, what do you guys think?  Would you trade Harrington to the Nets for Nenad Krstic and Marcus Williams?

PS -- sorry for bringing you into this Al.  I dig your game, but if it's a foregone conclusion that you're leaving I'm just brainstorming.  I'm also happy to keep you around... :)

I don’t know if Krstic and Marcus will ever live up to their potential but if al is a forgone good bye then i’ll take those two. All the signs point to a definite possibility for the warriors

not a bad idea

especially if the Lakers match the Turiaf offer. Then Krstic could fill the backup center role.

Could make an ok backup plan for Monta

We need a point that’s better than Montay not a backup! The 7 footer with the bad leg sounds risky? Harrington is not so bad that we have to dump him?

the nets

would probably not make this deal because they would probably would want to get a good cheap young player to go along with the deal, to help build around the potential signing of Lebron. Maybe Hendrix or Belinelli.

ummm no

I rather have watson D the big men than Krstic. He is one of the worse d-fenders in the game. 7 feet 260, he is like a white eddy curry. no thank you

D? What's that?

We’re the Warriors man. You must have us confused with someone else..?

I like it.

I have no idea if it is realistic or not but I’m pretty sure that I’d do that deal. Marcus would be a nice player to have and I wouldn’t mind having another big man to fill out the bench.

This is exactly the kind of deal we should be looking to make with Al IMO. If we can get some depth that fills our needs (Back-up PG) then I say go for it.

good stuff

Probably the most interesting Al trade idea I’ve seen—addresses our needs with young, moderate-upside guys, and best of all, might possibly make sense for the other team. That doesn’t mean they would do it, but it’s not unreasonable to think they might.

feelin it

seems like the perfect trade for the warriors. we get a much needed pg and a decent pf/c.

by J2daZ on Jul 11, 2008 1:30 AM PDT reply actions

not bad

Intriguing because of Williams. If he ever reaches full potential reminds me of former Warrior PG with a certain killer cross (bit bigger though). If he never does reach his max potential he is at least as servicable at CJ. Krstic could be a sleeper but not sure he has fully recovered and can run the flow as needed in this offense

Not bad

The times I saw Williams sub for Kidd,he looked very solid.I like this trade.I agree that we don’t need a back up to Monta,but a starting PG-leave Monta at the 2 !! He’s a scorer,not a playmaker.

It's not going to happen

GET OVER IT!!! Monta WILL be the starting point gaurd next season. Neither Maggette or Jackson are going to come off the bench and they definetly won’t be playing power forward. Monta Ellis is your starting point gaurd for the 2008-2009 season. Deal with it. He will learn.

by boomdizzleness on Jul 11, 2008 3:24 AM PDT up reply actions

Don't need a back up?

Who’s going to bring it up and push the ball when Monta has to rest? Belinelli or Jackson? Maybe CJ Watson will be that guy..But I say why not get a good point who knows how to spread the ball around to all these scorers we got on our team? A veteran. We get a guy like that for our sixth man, and he’ll come in when the 1st quarters winding down, then Monta can slide over to the 2.. I got faith in Watson, I think he’s going to be in the league for awhile, but until he has proven that he is prepared to take on that role full-time, then I think we should be shopping for a floor leader.

by Travis Bickle on Jul 11, 2008 4:12 PM PDT up reply actions

....

What does that have to do with anything? There’s about 50 players in the league that play the point better than Monta, but does that mean I would play them over Monta? Does that mean they would be my starting point just because they can spread the ball better? If that’s your logic, then we should get Mateen Cleaves over here and slide Monta over to the 2. CJ Watson hasn’t proved to anyone that he can be an effective PG for 82 games. Whether or not that’s his fault or Nelson’s is a seperate issue. Now, since we’re not sure if he’s capable, then maybe it would be a good idea to get a more proven player in the time being.

by Travis Bickle on Jul 12, 2008 12:02 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm just saying that I think CJ may be too small

He doesn’t seem to see the court that well, and I think that has to do with his size. Sure, there are small point guards that see the floor OK; maybe I’m just making excuses. But that’s what I was suggesting. Couldn’t hurt if he got a little taller…

by b.radley on Jul 12, 2008 2:38 PM PDT up reply actions

No, I wasn't arguing your point...

Skeptic likes to translate things into whatever he likes, so I was trying to make him understand something. Isn’t Watson listed at 6-2?? Steve Nash, Nate “tiny” Archibald, Andre Miller, Baron Davis…they’re not much taller than CJ and they seem to see things fine. I’m not sure that has much to do with anything.
I do think that you’re at an advantage if your Shawn Livingston, and you’re playing in a triangle offense. It makes it easier to pass over the offense and into the post from the top if your 6-7… other than that I’m not sure it really matters…

by Travis Bickle on Jul 12, 2008 3:31 PM PDT up reply actions

If that’s your logic, then we should get Mateen Cleaves over here and slide Monta over to the 2

Whodat? from the WNBA? Yeah whatever it takes to put Montay in the 2 spot. He play good there and might as well maximize his talent. A better point guard will make everyone else better. There’s 4 more guys on the floor besides Montay( or maybe 3 guys and Mareen )

I just remember Williams in the NCAA Tourney

He did what you want from a PG. He distributed to his mates, but when the going got tough, he took over offensively, getting into the lane, dropping bombs from deep. He definitely had that “killer instinct” or whatever you want to call it. Don’t know what’s happened since he joined the league though.

There are lots of minutes to go around. If Monta/Jack/Maggs each play 36, then there’s another 36 minutes to spread between the 1/2/3. Right now, those go to… Buke, Belinelli, Randolph, and CJ… Only one of those guys is a PG, so adding another solid, young backup PG with big game experience would definitely be a good thing. It also clearly states “This is your team, Monta”.

by Dubs fan in Boston on Jul 11, 2008 6:53 AM PDT reply actions

What might have happened...

...is that he was stuck behind Kidd first. When the Nets decided to trade Kidd, they decided he wasn’t ready to fill those shoes yet. Devin Harris was the best player they could get from Dallas who filled an immediate need (ie. proven talent, playoff experience) as they were losing Kidd. Nets might have decided they had to get a NOW point guard to try and keep Carter and Jefferson happy, and to stay somewhat competitive. Plus, remember they’re trying to lure LeBron and he’s been missing a PG. With Harris they knew they were getting a solid one, so they snapped him up when he was available rather than take the gamble with WIlliams…

Of course, there’s always the chance that they just gave up on Williams too… but the GS offense has been known to revive PG careers. And in this scenario we’re not asking for him to be our starter anyway—probably more like 15-20 minutes/game, ultimately, as another alternative to “mix things up”...

by b.radley on Jul 11, 2008 8:44 AM PDT up reply actions

Looks like the Nets are signing Jarvis Hayes

That might complicate this deal, as he’s similar in size and position to Al—though Hayes is not as good of a scorer… Also just noticed that Harris expires next year. Not sure that changes anything with Williams though; reports are already out that the Nets have been shopping him.

Harrington for just Williams...

isn’t enough to make me jump the gun and go for the trade… I’d need more back for Harrington.

Stop crying about it alright?!?! GO MULLIN.

by jeppalepala on Jul 11, 2008 9:54 AM PDT up reply actions

Of course not...

The suggestion was for both Williams & Krstic. You’d have to do that if you wanted the salaries to match. With his injury, I don’t see Nenad getting much more than the MLE or maybe a little more to start, and Williams is on the books for $1.2M this season, and Al for $9.2M. That leaves $8M for Krstic, and that should be plenty. In fact, it might need another player on the Nets side to make it work, unless they were willing to take a salary INCREASE in the trade. Looks like they’d be under the salary cap even if they did, and well beyond the luxury cap…

by b.radley on Jul 11, 2008 10:04 AM PDT up reply actions

Ummm...

The trade includes Kristic. He’s certainly the more valuable of the two. It would be something like Al and a second rounder or something… I wouldn’t do it with any of our other players. I wouldn’t do it with a first rounder.

by Dubs fan in Boston on Jul 11, 2008 10:04 AM PDT up reply actions

Yeah

I wouuld love to have both of these guys. Marcus Williams is a Pure PG and I think he will really be solid. Nets seem content with playing devin Harris there. SO I think Marcus Williams would be available. Krstic is defensively challenged but he has a nice offensive game. HE woudl go nicely with BIedrins

by GoldenSt8OfMind on Jul 11, 2008 10:21 AM PDT reply actions

I've mentioned M. Williams on here before...

I could see Kristic on our team, maybe he and Wright could split minutes for the 3rd big man coming off the bench, seeing as Biedrins and most likely Turiaf would eat up most of the starting minutes. He’s definitley not defending anybody, but I think you play him between Turiaf and Jackson and let them pick up the slack.. I havn’t seen enough of his game, but from what I remember he’s pretty consistent from 15-16 feet..
I can see him and Monta on the pick and pop. We don’t have that big body who can set high screens and score consistently from mid-range.

As for Marcus Williams, he’s got good upside, but I would almost rather trade for a Luke Ridnour or maybe package Harrington and a future pick for something better. The Warriors would win more games with a quality P guard who could help Monta keep the assist/TO up and run the team, rather than an offensive injury prone big man, and an unproven prospect in Williams. I couldn’t be mad at this trade, because I’d take both of these guys over Al, but I really think our priorities should be in finding a solid floor leader who can defend.

by Travis Bickle on Jul 11, 2008 3:53 PM PDT reply actions

In principle, I agree with you.

But who? Where? Ridnour ain’t that guy. Only other options kinda interesting to me are (a) gamble on Livingston, and/or (b) flyer on Crittenton (pree’s Jaric/Crittenton/Warrick for Al + draft pick trade might be OK). Either way, it’s a dice roll on PG. I’d take Heinrich if his contract wasn’t so darn big. I still might in spite of it, because at least he feels like he might have “floor general” qualities. But I don’t think that’s even an option right now. I doubt Charlotte gives up Felton—not yet; they need to give DJ more time to see what he can do. Really, I just don’t see a good PG candidate unless we pick one up in next year’s draft. Which is why I suggest we at least get a PG+ if we’re doing anything at all. Otherwise, I’d wait until the draft, methinks, and save Al’s contract for a bigger/better trade next year…

by b.radley on Jul 11, 2008 4:07 PM PDT up reply actions

Alston, Tinsley, Blake, Ridnour

Especially Alston and Blake, although I’m sure the Rockets aren’t interested in Harrington as they already have Scola, and I don’t even know how the Blazers feel about Steve Blake..but mainly I would want to see us bring in a vet who doesn’t get too excited and is a bit more selective.. I really got faith in CJ, he can shoot, defend, and he’s got great maturity with the ball for being so young. But he didn’t really play enough for anyone to really have a good outlook on what his role could be this year.

But I do like Marcus Williams, I actually posted a diary about a year ago suggesting a trade with Harrington going to NJ for Williams, but people told me I was an idiot because Williams was their “PG of the future”. But I didn’t see much of him last year, and he kind of fell under my radar. I just assumed he hasn’t done much more than CJ Watson at this point.

But I really liked your idea with Kristic, I follow where you’re going with all that. He would be a great teammate for Monta, a bail out. Everyone knows Monta’s going to the rim, and he’s almost unstoppable if you give him a good high screen, Kristic could do that if he weigh’s 260, and if he can still shoot as well as he did in the playoffs a while back, then he’ll get some looks because Ellis will kick the ball back out to him after baiting their big man… Do you know if Nenad can move? All I know is his injury put him out of action for a long time. But like I said, it’s a great idea, I would just rather have a proven player, we got too many gamblers as is.

by Travis Bickle on Jul 11, 2008 4:47 PM PDT reply actions

Pass...

I don’t like it. Krstic is too soft. Williams has shown signs of brilliance, but he’s not the answer. I’m intrigued by Tinsley though…he’s definitely a true point and ballhandler we could use.
