More important now: Playoffs or Entertainment?

With Baron gone and the potential (probable?) trade of Harrington the Warriors team chemistry is going to change a lot.

I have no doubt the team will still attempt to play the same style, but it obviously isnt going to come together right away, and I dont see a clear leader on this team.  Monta has the best game, but not the biggest personality.  Jackson has the personality and attitude, but will the new team still want to be led by him in the absence of the do it all Baron Davis?

Seems like we have two options:

1) Be extremely entertaining in our up and down style of play

2) Slow down a little and attempt to focus on every game because the playoffs will likely be decided at the last minute again in the West.  We cannot afford to give away early games again this year (imagine if we had back the first 6 games without Jackson! Shit, imagine if we had 3 of those back!)

We take this sport seriously, but in all reality, the NBA is an entertainment product.  What do you think?  Can we try to have it all or should the team lean one way or the other?

Personally, after a lifetime of not making the playoffs, I have become accustomed to coming up short. I dont see us as a Championship contender this year, so why not go full bore entertaining and see how it comes out in the end.

This doesnt mean to lose games on purpose or go all And1 style, but I want to have fun all the way through the season and have everyone I talk to excited about the last game like the We Believe era.

Playoffs?

Playoffs?!! Playoffs?!! your asking about playoffs?!! I just hope we can win a game!

Warrior fan for life - where we are "always just a big man away" from total domination

We won’t win with Run’N’Gun. No way. Warrior fans certainly seem to prefer entertainment over contention.

It’s possible to be entertaining and successful. The two concepts are not mutually exclusive. The object of the game has always been putting the ball into the basket, with the winner being the team with the higher score at the end. It’s the most basic concept of basketball yet people easily forget this.

we are gonna run'n'gun it and maybe make the 8th playoff spot.

without Baron, next year’s squad is still going to be the best non-Baron Warrior team since the run TMC days. The problem is WE are in the freekin west.If we were in the east we would be an 4-6 spot team.Even if we make the 8 spot we are not getting past the first round.but what the bleep do i know.Maybe the Warriors will surprise me.

This is a great question...!

I see entertainment… but Playoffs… man the line up just doesn’t looked disciplined enough! Who am I to judge, we’ll just have to see!

Both

Our team can win while being entertaining. It’s just a matter of keeping cool and focused down the stretch. It’s very possible to keep the ball moving and score a lot of points without being reckless. No clear leader means everyone has to step up, but it also means anyone CAN step up. Regardless of style, it all boils down to teamwork and getting the job done.

damn, that's optimistic...

I agree with you, but what are the odds of someone stepping up everytime? We have some playmakers on this team, but how many 4th quarter failures have we seen in the NBA by average teams?

It is tough to be cool and focused without a low post presence for easy points.

I don't care about '09 playoffs or entertainment

but I do want Wright and Randolph to be able to mature so that our front court is VERY solid in 2 years. Screw playoffs, I want a championship.

Teams need to make the playoffs first in order to win that championship. Our chances of winning it all in ‘07 were slim, but this past season our chances were zero.

Teams need to make the playoffs first in order to win that championship

And teams need to make the playoffs and get some experience then come back next year and do better instead of making the playoffs then trading the most valuable player and regressing! It takes a real commitment to hard nosed basketball not a bunch of mis-matched moves.

Winning is always nice but...

at the situation that we are in rite now we should just try to entertain because with the current team we have right now we probably won’t make the playoffs and if we did we wouldn’t be able to play the west’s elite eg. lakers spurs hornets. Plus if we don’t make the playoffs we get a higher pick and in the lottery that gives us a chance to move up in the draft and add to our young talent. so overall i would choose entertainment but you never know another year like 06-07 would be entertaining and obviously consist of us being in the playoffs and everyone loves the underdog!
