Trade/Free Agent Ideas Thread
First and foremost let me say that I watched the summer league game against the Sixers today and was juiced with what I saw. Anthony Randolph was lookin like kevin durant out there -- I know we learned our lesson with Bellinelli last year that Summer league doesn't mean all that much, but Randolph sure looked good. I also liked waht I saw from brandan wright and CJ Watson. I thought tamar slay and demarcus looked pretty signable too.
That being said, we still need to acquire a backup pg and a backup pf/c or a replacment pf/c for Al. I love lookign at everyones ideas, but it gets tiresome looking at all the different posts. I was thinking we could consolidate the free agent/trade ideas to one thread.
Personally I like the idea of trading Al Harrington for Luke Ridnour and Chris Wilcox. Wilcox is a big physical presence that I think will complement beans and bwright well. I think it really would help our depth to have both a banger who can score--wilcox-- and one who can play defense--turiaf.
I also think Luke will be a servicable backup, especially with all the offensive firepower we have. He had a bad year last year, but his team sucked. The year when the Sonics made the playoffs, he averaged 12 and 7. He might be weak on D, but is def. not a bad backup.
Another thought I had was possibly signing jamaal magloire. 2 years ago he was averaging 9.5 boards a game. I know he wasn't getting much time in Dallas or NJ, but he is only 30 and only made $231,183 last year. What is his story?
Anyway I wanted to see what ideas you guys have about filling the pf and pg slots.

at this point...
do we still need Wilcox assuming Turiaf signs with us? I like to get for a vet. sf via FA ( i.e. Finley) who can start play 20mins and have Maggette come off the bench. Yanno something like what the Spurs do with Manu. If we can get a vet. sf, then i guess having Luke and Wilcox on our team wont hurt.

Maggette
ain’t comin off the bench dog. he came here to play. you don’t go from being the 11th best scorer in the league to a 6th man, nope

But thats not because hes not good enough to start...
It’s called roster management.. he uses Ginobili in the 2nd unit because their team becomes just as effective as the first 5 so that there is always a significant threat on the floor… It’s like balancing it whenever your starters get tired its alright because you have a great second coming in and that’s why Manu is 6th.
Stop crying about it alright?!?! GO MULLIN.

I think thats exactly
how he’s suggesting we use Maggette. That was the point I was trying to make, just because he’s one of our top 3 scorers and one of the highest paid guys on the team doesnt mean we HAVE to start him.

i agree...
everybody knows how the Warriors bench has been over the past seasons. We depended to heavily on our starters and by having Maggette come off the bench helps the offensive game.

consolidated FA thread
i started one of these threads awhile back but it kinda got pushed back…
i guess things have changed with the maggette and potentially turiaf signings. i think the only additional move we would make would be to add a backup pg at a small price…
maybe al gets traded away, but at this point i doubt it

They should name their team the Bombers. Hey, the NFL is doing fine in New York with the Jets…

I predict that
Luke Ridnour is getting out of OKC and he’s going somewhere like Miami. The (submit future team name here) are going to trade him for sure now that they have Westbrook and they sure like Watson more than Ridnour.

i think a trade will happen
but not soon. i think that they will experiment with bellie at the point. for the same reason that monta is a point. lack of size to be a true sg even though thats were there skill set says they should play. they also need to see where bwright is at in his development. if they traded for a pf (like wilcox) it would send a message that he is not ready yet and would have to wait till next year for playing time. with that said al needs to go for the development of bwright.
the move i think we need to make is for a sg or sf. which ever postion we could get the best player for cuz maggs could play the other. i would use al and jax to start a deal. jax would need to go cuz he wouldnt be able mentally to come of the bench even though thats what he should be. a 6th man

Yes, we should let Wright develop.
No, Stephen Jackson is not becoming a six man while he’s on the Warriors. At least not now.

Not sure about...
Jack coming off the bench because he is our leader (aside form Monta) and plays with intensity. I’d rather see Maggette come off the bench since he is a one dimensional player, drive and score whereas Jack has the intangibles to help others. I think the Warriors should strongly look at depth at PG and F’s.
Making a deal with Memphis, who has 23456789 gaurds that dont play would make sense. They are certianly looking for upgrade for Swift and Darko and Al would help space the floor.
Al and future 1st for Marco, Jarvis, and Warrick would be a deal that would interest Memphis since those 3 guys are going to be seldom used. Marco can start at PG just for defensive purpose as Monta would be too small against certain point gaurds.Jarvis, can learn the rope as the season progresses and Warrick is a bit of a tweener, is he a 3 or 4? he’s 6-9 who is athletic but hasnt established a offensive game.
Projected lineup:
PG: Monta/ Jaric/ Jarvis
SG:Jackson/ Marco/ *Bukie
SF: Maggette/ Randolph/ *Bukie
PF: Wright/ Warrick/ Hendrix
C: Andris/ *Turiaf/ Kosta

thats what he should be. a 6th man?
And why should our best player with the most experience and attitude be a 6th man?
I don’t quite get the reasoning behind trading Jax for a sg or sf when we’d get back someone just like him but worse? Teams don’t give us better players for worse players?

our best player?
he is not our best player. monta is. he is not our 2nd best player. maggs is. what he is is our most out spoken player and currently our oldest player under contract 30. what does that mean “we’d get back someone just like him” wouldnt that be a good thing. that sound like your implying he’s not that good even though he’s our best player. on a good team (celts, utah, hornets, detroit to name a few teams)he’s a 6th man. all im saying is imo we need a 2 or a 3 not a pg or pf. jax had a career year some would say cuz of his ppg avg and no off court issues and he has a favorable contract. trade him now while he has value.

c'mon man
trading jax is ridiculous, hes the heart of our team, hes worth way more to our team than hes making, hes what we love about our team, and u want to trade him…...c’mon man

I'm open to the idea of trading Jack
but only because I’m not sure how he’ll handle it when this team really struggles. And realistically on paper we are probably only the 10th, 11th, or 12th best team in the West. Not that we need to shop him, but if a contender (New Orleans needs toughness, a vet, and and 2) thinks he can put them over the top and offers a nice young piece or two in return we have to at least consider it.

Felton...
could be a great player to trade for. He was a high lottery pick, picked after Chris Paul, and he knows how to play the position. His size and speed are something the Warriors would love to add to the point guard position. The contracts don’t match up but he Al is expendable and I know the Warriors can get it done.
by Knowshon Ciron on Jul 11, 2008 10:56 PM PDT 0 recs
he is not our best player. monta is. he is not our 2nd best player. maggs is
We’ll hafta see about that. Jax is our best player based on what he’s done for the team so far. Magette or Montay haven’t lead us to the playoffs yet. If they ever provide leadership and play defense at Jax’s level then we’ll talk.
Jax can play the 2 or 3 spot so why trade him for someone that might possibly be as good but might be worse instead? What’s the point in churning the team constantly? Look where it got us with JRich, no heart, no playoffs!
by Skeptic con Urquell on Jul 11, 2008 10:57 PM PDT 0 recs
Magette or Montay haven’t lead us to the playoffs yet.
thats really not fair statement to make. maggs hasnt even played a game yet for us and when monte’s roll on the team increased so did his production. when we made the playoffs jax wasnt the best player on the team he was still the 3rd best. i did notice the yet in your unfair statment but common man thats weak. how about i say we didnt make the playoff cuz our so called best player jax missed the 1st 7 games. sure he was suspended but if he used better judgement he wouldnt have put himself in that postion. just like if he had a better shot selection he would be a more efficient shooter.

im not trying to kill nobody
just giving my opinion thats all. not hatin on jax either. i like him. he plays with big balls. i just think that jax has some trade value and for the development of our young guys (monta especially) he needs to go. he is to dominating of figure to keep on the team and he’s not getting any younger.
