Bedrins for Billups?
http://www.contracostatimes.com/ci_9855185
Thats what Detroit is offering. I for one, say, DO IT NOW. It should be pretty clear by now that Bedrins is WEAK. Simply put, he has no balls. Every time anyone drives to the hole they guy is BAILING, even when its a tiny point guard. He is just getting out of the way, its amazing. I see it, then im like, did he just run out of the way instead of contesting that shot? (And the guy driving the ball is Nate Robinson). He is NOT worth anything more than the midlevel. Just because the clippers and the bucks get themselves into crappy contracts doesn't mean we should too. The fact of the matter is, he is an inconsistent rebounder, a defensive liability, but a pretty damn good scorer. When its all said and done however, Chauncy is a floor general, he is a leader, he is battle tested, trustworthy, proven, and just....great. Think about this we have 2 guys on our team (Randolph and Wright) that can not only be a "Bedrins" but better (they have defensive mindsets). BUT we have NOBODY on our team that could be a Chauncy Billups. DO IT, PULL THE TRIGGER, NOW.
Thoughts?

what?
Biedrins isn’t that good. But we do need him for defense but I would rather have chauncy billups instead of biedrins. And i don’t think it would necessarily screw up the plans for monta. I for one would rather have him in his origninal spot as opposed as point guard. (He should be captain) He would still be just as awesome as a shooting guard. And besides we HAVE Wright, Randolph, and Hendrix (who nobody is talking about?) and they can shoot and are great defenders!!!! so maybe we don’t need biedrins. and whether u like it or not, we do need a pg b/c baron is gone.

And besides we HAVE Wright, Randolph, and Hendrix (who nobody is talking about?) and they can shoot and are great defenders!!!!- Wright has tons of potential and showed flashes of excellence last season in minimal playing time.
- Randolph played well in one summer league game. He could be Marco Belinelli redux for all we know.
- Hendrix hasn’t even played, so I’m not buying into this defensive prowess.
Can I get some evidence, please?
It never occurred to me that one man could play with the faith of 50 million.

general rule of thumb
you don’t trade away your only playable center / rebounder / rim-defender / 6’11”+ young dude for an aging point guard with a lengthy, expensive contracts

Don’t trade young for old or tall for short. This proposal violates two basic principles to follow. There has to be an overwhelming reason to trump these rules. There isn’t.
What Biedrins does is valuable to the team. It has been demonstrated to be valuable for several seasons. I grow weary of pointing this out to the superficial masses who seem to think that anyone who doesn’t score twenty ppg must somehow be a liability and confuse defense with blocked shot totals.

Biedrins is underrated
Don’t forget, he’s very, very young still. Andris may not be dominant, but there’s not another available center in the league who would fit in our system like he does. Biedrins is getting better and better.
We do need a pg though, bad!!!!! We just have to deal with it if Monta is our pg, but he’s just realistically not a pg. Who knows though? Since Baron was our pg, Monta of course didn’t have the chance to show what he can do at pg. The Warriors do see stuff behind the scenes at practices that we don’t, so maybe Monta was wowing them there, and that’s my Mully milght be nonchalant about our pg position.

i for one, say, NO WAY.
what do you have against Beans? He sometimes plays too cautiously because he is constantly in foul trouble. He needed to remain on the floor as long as possible .With Turiaf as his back-up he can afford to be a little more physical( We can call them “pork’n’beans”).
Ellis is going to be our point. Trust Nelson,he is wise. I don’t like the name Chauncey. chauncey sounds like something you would name a freekin poodle.

I don't Trust Nelson...l
I just embrace him because he’s our coach. How can you trust someone who’s idea was to play our top people for almost all the game, and not give other guys a chance? Towards the end, we lost to teams we should have beaten because of Nellie playing most of our starters for 40 minutes per game.

Do you realize that it was Nelson who took Baron Davis out of the last game for the rest of the last half! That costed the playoffs!!! He didn’t play Wright when we needed him. He didn’t play a lot of good players and made some bad decisions last year. Anyways, now that I think about it, Monta will rock no matter what. He will show us the skills he has.

Nellie took Baron out. I know that
But he took him out because BD was ineffective the first half. We made a run and built a comfortable lead against the Suns even with Baron out. However if BD was in, we’d most likely lose the lead and lose the game. That was happening a lot towards the end. We’d build comfortable leads, but a gassed team (Even with BD in the game) just didn’t have the energy nor the defense to keep the lead to win.

the real story
first of all, dont blame nellie. i have close contacts with the team and it was all BD’s fault. if you weren’t aware, it was BD’s birthday the day before the suns game. the most important game of the season and what does baron do the night before? party all night and celebrated his birthday instead of resting. he wasn’t suppose to play the whole game cuz the coaches found out but nellie gave him a chance. when he stunk it up the first half, that was it for him. now thats the reason why he got benched

the scoop on wright
the reason why he didn’t play much last year was because management gave instructions to play the vets more cuz they wanted to make it back to the playoffs. it wasnt nelson’s decision. this season, he was instructed to play marco and wright more so they could develop so expect to see them more. sometimes, the coaches don’t make all the decisions

Dont be stupid! The game we lost at home to the Nuggs cost us the playoffs, Baron was playing crap in Phoenix and Nellie trid to save our playoffs by trying something else!
If one half goes tits up, on such a key game, do you sit and watch more of the same the 2nd half, or do you try something different to try and save a bad situation. Nellie did what Nellie is paid to do. Oh….and he has a little bit better record than you in the NBA success department.
Costed the playoffs…...idiot thing to say!

Frustrating.
These type of posts are what drives me nuts about this site. There are a lot of people who speak out of their ass. As “smearthebeard” stated, Beans for the last 2 seasons has nearly averaged a double double in points and rebounds. He also averages more than 1 block a game in 27 in minutes. If you are going to undermine a players talents, do some research first. And by the way, his last name is “BIEDRINS”, learn how to spell.
by turbulence24 on Jul 12, 2008 12:03 PM PDT 0 recs
Gimme a break...
First of all, I don’t care how he spells his name. Second, no one is speaking out of their ass, this shows how little you truly know about basketball. You can’t just look at his stats and say “lets throw him 12 million because he averages NEARLY (nice choice of word) a double double. You are talking out of your ass now, look at his position. His position, requires him to be a defender of the glass, the last line of defense. For every point he scores, he allows, the same amount of points on the other end. So, basically, all you have now is, a rebounder. Something the team can easily compensate for with the signings of Turiaf, wright getting more playing time, and the addition of Mags. So please asshole, spare the lecture, and YOU stop talking out of your ass you moron who clearly doesn’t know crap about basketball. What are you his brother or something. HE SUCKS GET OVER IT.

what are you thinking?! this trade is almost a joke…i mean billups probably has one or two more years and hes done…i doubt were trying to get a championship this year. its so hard to find a center like biedrins because hes quick and he can play defense well. not to mention he can rebound the ball well. also his field goal percentage is way off the charts. PLUS hes only 22!!! i mean think about the kind of player he will develop into in a few years. THINK next time before posting…

Have you been watching for the past 15 years?
Biedrins is the best center we’ve had in at least that long. And he’s still very young and shows room to grow. I’m not willing to give that up for a PG who is 10 years older. Monta, Beans, and to a lesser extent Randolph and Wright are our future. Chauncey wont make us a contender and adding Chauncey but removing Biedrins probably doesnt even put us in the playoffs.

no way are the warriors a playoff team with billups. can you really say a lineup of billups, monta, jax, maggette, and ??? is going anywhere? sure you can bring maggette or jackson off the bench and play wright or turiaf at the four (and one of them would probably need to be the starting center) but that team doesn’t even create mismatches. it’s just a small team down low and doesn’t run nearly as well with billups. we give up a young big who has plenty of time to bulk up and learn some defense for a old point guard who costs a lot of cash. no way.

For every point he scores his weak defense give up the same amount of points on the other end. Do you wanna pay a rebounder 12 Mil, which is prob what he is asking for, or would you rather have a solid pg and let monta flourish at the 2.

Andres is always having to cheat defensively to help our non existant power forward. he is the only guy down low who can defend. Ali Loves Monta, you know the person you called and a tool actually wasn’t addressing you or calling you names. They were actually telling smearthebeard to learn how to spell Andris. In fact as I look around this thread I see a lot of people questioning your logic and disagreeing with you but you are the only person repeatedly calling people names and making it personal.
This is a place for you to come and talk Warriors. People might not agree with you and sometimes they will be a little harsh in their criticism of your ideas but it is NOT cool to call people names here. Continue this behavior and I’m sure that you will be asked to go elsewhere for your W’s fix. Incase you are unfamiliar with the rules here:
The Golden State of Mind community is comprised of some of the most intelligent, passionate, and friendly hoops fans you’ll find anywhere. GSoM will always be a family show and readers of all ages and backgrounds are welcome.Let’s strive to keep GSoM fun for everyone by sticking to these simple guidelines:
Keep it clean: Try to keep profanity to a minimum. Because of the emotions involved with sports, especially a fast paced one like basketball, there are undoubtedly going to be circumstances where swearing is completely natural. Like when this happened:
It’s completely understandable why you would post: “HOLY $x%x@!! WE WON!!” after JRich came through in the clutch. That’s fine. Use your best judgment about swearing.
Keep it friendly: Personal attacks on other community members are completely unacceptable. There’s simply no need to write things like “You’re an idiot”. If you don’t agree with someone deconstruct their ideas, don’t say destructive things about them.
Keep it Conscious: Racist, sexist, or homophobic comments are never acceptable at any time on GSoM. The GSoM community is just as diverse as the Bay Area. R-E-S-P-E-C-T
If you want to have a potty mouth, engage in online flame wars, or post ignorant things, unfortunately there are plenty of places for you on the web. Golden State of Mind is not one of them and it never will be.
Consequences for Violating GSoM’s Community Guidelines
You will be immediately reported the Fun Police authorities and you will be banished from GSoM forever!Don’t make us send these fellas after you! [SportsPosterWarehouse.com]
Remember, Golden State of Mind is a community and everyone here is rooting for the same squad. We're all on the same team so treat everyone like your teammates.
Have fun, keep posting, just cool it a little.

Top rebounders in the NBA 2007/08
Per minute played, 25 MPG minimum
1. Dwight Howard
2. Marcus Camby
3. Andris Biedrins
4. Tyson Chandler
5. Tim Duncan
Yeah, you have to adjust for pace a bit, but that’s some pretty rarified company. It’s delusional to think AB is anything but an excellent rebounder. If you want to argue that he’s “inconsistent,” go ahead, but remember that your saying it doesn’t make it so. The burden is on you to prove that:
1. AB is any less “consistent” in his rebounding than other elite rebounders.
2. It’s better to rebound consistently than inconsistently.
I’m dubious about both of these hypotheses; and based on your previous posts, something tells me you’re going to have a tough time proving either of them. You’re better off sticking to hurling insults at people in ALL CAPS… ;-P

Averages are not that deceptive. You can actually do a ridiculously accurate job of predicting a team’s success by knowing the statistical average performance of the players.
It sounds much like you have strong opinions about stats, but not a firm knowledge base to back these opinions. You seem to be of the opinion that his rebounding is somehow more inconsistent than other players. There are several issues here. One is playing time. Another is pure rebound opportunities. Both can influence rebound totals significantly.
You seem to implying that Andris is more inconsistent than other players. I’m not sure this is true. I certainly haven’t seen anything to suggest this and I’ve crunched a whole lot of data on the NBA.

Felton is the fourth best PG of his draft class. Paul, D-Will, Monta, and Felton. Monta doesn’t even play PG well but he’s still better than felton. Plus Okafor is overrated, Andris rebounds better, scores better, and younger. The only thing he has on him is defense and a cooler name.

2007 stats Dris 10.5pt, 9.8 R, 1.2 blks Okafur 13.8 Pt, 10.7 R, 1.7 Blks. plus plays better defense.
Which is better?

Dude, come on
And you wonder why you p*ss so many people off around here.
If you want to compare two players, you can’t simply cherrypick the stats you like best, and ignore crucial context like, I dunno, minutes played. In the case of AB and Okafor, the difference in playing time isn’t that huge (33.1 v. 27.3) but simply to ignore it when citing stats is either totally boneheaded or deliberately dishonest or both (not surprisingly, it’s one of Atma’s favorite ploys too).
Per 36 minutes, 2007/08
Biedrins / Okafor
—-
Points: 13.8 / 15.0
FG%: 62.6 / 53.4
FT%: 62.0 / 57.0
Rebounds: 12.9 / 11.6
Assists: 1.3 / 0.9
Blocks 1.6 / 1.8
PER 19.2 / 17.4
Net plus/minus +5.6 / -0.1
If you’re going to argue that they’re close — they are similar players, but I prefer AB because, in addition to being better statistically, he’s 3.5 years younger and much more durable — you still have to make the case that Ray Felton is in the same league as Monta Ellis. It’s kind of apples to oranges, since one played PG last year and one didn’t, but you’re talking about a guy with PER of 19.0 v. one with a PER of 13.8. Even if you don’t like PER, that’s a ridiculous difference. JAE seems to like Felton, but even he admits that’s his Tarheel babyblue showing. Felton has done nothing statistically to show he’s more than average NBA point guard, while Monta has shown flashes of impending superstardom.
Here’s a question for you to ponder, Skep: if Okafor and Felton are so good, and JRich is the championship-quality shooting guard you keep saying he is, and you throw in Gerald Wallace, a fabulous defender and best player of the lot, how come that team still sucked? In the Leastern conference, they finished 16 games worse than those lame-ass Golden State Warriors, a team you can’t stop badmouthing.

I don’t piss them off, they are already in bad moods.
I dint put in minutes per game cause it favored Okafur, ( looked like he played more for his money). I go by my observations more than stats and try to imagine how the players would fit into our team , The stats don’t show the difference in toughness and defensive strength that okafur would bring. They also don’t show the obvious better handles Felton has. It’s a team sport not a one man show. Montay can’t win games by himself and he don’t look like he has the aptitude to set up the rest of the guys to win it with him. Felton might not be more than an NBA average point guard but he’s a much better point guard than we have now. We’d be lucky to get him but I read that they want to keep him till their new guy gets more experience, and also that they want to re-sign Okafur. They’d probably laugh at my trade proposal and say no thanks anyway.
Why were the Bobcats so bad? Don’t know maybe coaching or bench depth?
