The Pistons about a possible trade for Chauncey Billups.

I can see how we would do something like this but why? I know we need a "big" point guard to be a better fit with Ellis, but in my mind, if something like this were to happen it completely negate the signing of Corey Maggette. Unless you want him/jackson to come off the bench. Which I cant see the emotional leader (Jackson) coming off the bench. And I def. dont see Maggette coming off the bench for the kind of money we're giving him.

Anyways whats your outlook on this, do you actually think the Dubs would do something like this? And (just to throw this out there)...would the Dubs do this trade, and NOT sign Ellis and in turn, use his money to throw it at somebody like Okafor?

billups is the guy who’s overrated because everyone thinks he’s underrated. His game has been on the decline and he’s set for some injuries this coming yea. Definitely worse than B-D. If we weren’t gonna keep B-D, why take Billups?

This article is actually a rehash of a 2-3 week old Oakland Tribune rumor that was probably a rehash of something in a Detroit newspaper and this “news” is very old news indeed. Even if it does end up happening, it was debated in several other posts

biedrins is a good young player who is improving every year and plays a need position for us. it would be stupid to trade biedrins for billups.

this deal makes the warriors worse on the day it happens and it looks even worse next year. the warriors don’t have enough post defenders to make up for biedrins if this trade happens. i’ve posted it on the original billups for biedrins thread, but it warrants mentioning again as these threads keep popping up. if you want to talk about biedrins post d and then say we should trade him for billups, think about the warriors post defense after the trade. turiaf and maggette/al/wright is considerably worse than biedrins and al/wright/turiaf. maggette would end up getting serious minutes at the pf slot. think about that for a bit.

as constructed, the warriors should get blown away on the block less often if monta plays the point. jax and maggette can both d up some bigger guys at their positions than davis could and now turiaf is coming off the bench and should play solid defense too. not to mention the fact that this might be one of those rare occasions where trading big for small actually would slow team pace. we’d be playing halfcourt ball and be very undersized. i don’t want to think about it anymore.

Monta...

...could very well have a better year at point next season than Billups ever will again. Playing for the “gritty,” non-star focused Detroit team has inflated his value. He’s on the wrong side of thirty, and is more of a scoring point than a distributor, which otherwise is the only reason you might approve him over Monta. With Jackson sliding down to the shooting guard slot, and more minutes for Brandan Wright (with the possibility of a Harrington trade), we’re no longer and undersized team, we’re an oversized team. We have the muscle now to make up for any occasional Monta lapses on D.
