RUMOR: Warriors Did Try To Keep Baron

Intresting post from Marcus at Inside the Warriors. According to Marcus:

* Believe it or not, I’ve heard twice now that the Warriors made a last-ditch effort to sign Baron. The day of the press conference where Baron annoucned his signing, I was told they called and said they would match. Baron rejected, obviously.

So it's possible an effort was made, despite the assumption that Mullin just let him walk.  However it sounds like part of our offer was incentive based, so the Clips still had the best offer.  As far as I'm concerned, this closes the book on Baron, and best wishes to him.  This does make Mullin and Nelson look a little better to me if this is true.

im sure they did try keep him here

when bd wants to be the best he is. he proved it 2 years ago in the playoffs. its to hard to replace someone like him they knew that. maybe in the end he just wanted to go what ever. he got what he wanted and we got somethings out of it also. everybody wins

They had all season to sit down and talk with him. Ask him what players he needs to move forward and commit to a team with a chance of getting him a ring. They dint do much to make Boom wanna stay here so his homecourt became a better option at any price.

Yeah and

benching him the whole 2nd half in the game of the season that may have helped us win a playoff berth. The person who could have brought the team close or even win the game was benched the whole second half may have marinated in his head-Forget the warriors, if they don’t believe in him to beat Denver or any other team, why should he stay especially benching him the whole second half of the game by Nelson.

He’s proven is ability to lift the game to another level why bench him.

how sad

If this is true this makes it makes the Warriors seem even more desperate than before.

They refuse to sign Baron to anything resembling a trusting long term contract because of “injuries”. Then the minute Baron played his card the Warriors didn’t offer him anything and instead offered max money to two players who are about the same age and also came off of major surgeries (Brand played about 13 games and Arena’s underwent knee surgery again). They couldn’t get neither one of the big time injury prone players and instead (if this is true and not rumor) they try and entice the injury prone player they originally refused to sign (Baron) by “matching” the Clippers contract but filled with incentives. After that weak attempt at resigning Baron they decided to sign a guy whose never played a full season in his career (Corey).

Plus he was out

celebrating his bday the night b4. A birthday that was celebrated already 2 nites b4 after the clippers game. i would have benched his ass!

and don’t forget his movie promoting in aspen the nite b4 the timberwolves game that we lost by one!

please just end the baron bullshiet.

That birthday party you’re talking about. Monta, Al, Barnes, and S Jax were there also.

The Timberwolves? Phoenix lost to them TWICE.

If what you’re trying to say is “because Baron was out partying for we lost 2 games thus we didn’t make it to the playoffs”. Then I’d love to hear what’d you have to say about S Jax being suspended at the start of the season.

In response to each statement

u r missing the point on this one. he was benched in that phoenix game because he went 2-13. the partying the nite b4 may have had nellie thinking this is the reason he was clunking it. wouldn’t u?

u r way off point on this one 2 buddy. he was promoting the nite b4 the timberwolves game. he might have had more energy had he not. what phoenix did against the wolves has nothing to do with it. we r talking bout what baron could have done.

what i am trying to say is that we were in a middle of an intense playoff race, and instead of resting for the games the nite b4, he went out and partied and may have cost us those games. if u got paid million of dollars to play to win, u should do whatever it takes to win. bottom line is baron didn’t. now regarding sjax, of course that hurt us. but as u mentioned that happened b4 the season started. did he know that his actions at that time may have caused us a playoff spot? did he know the playoff race was going to be so tight? NO!!!!!!! but baron sure as hell did, didn’t he? cuz his actions were smack in the middle of the playoff race.

end the baron bullshiet.

nellie did the right thing

if you are partying the night before with our playoff llives on the line and you are shooting 2 of 13 what do you expect the coach to do. let azubuike come in and shoot 8 of 15 and score 17 points with 9 rebounds(as i said before all he needs if playing time and he is our second best rebounder) which would you do. i think i would have done the same nellie. a coach needs to give order and not bow down to the “star” player when he is obviously wrong . we needed more of that earlier though with jackson . i think that is why baron was pissed. stephen did that every game the last 15 games and was never benched (probally cuz we dont want another sprewell) i would be upset too but not with him doin that to me.

Then send him to the Clips for reward!
