Monta will be an all star next season

now i know monta may not end up having the type of numbers you would expect out of an all star pg (20ppg, 8-10 apg), but he will run this team to a winning record next season.  see nellie and mullin arent dumb, they will not try to use monta in a traditional PG role, wher he simply distributes the ball and scores when the opportunity arises.  They are going to encourage him to look to score first .  Once he gets into the paint, he has shown towards the end of last year that he is adept at dumping the ball of to biedrins or kicking it out to the perimeter, where jack will jack up 3's (pun intended), and magette will drive to the basket wih the D outta position and draw fouls.  Given our current makeup and style of play, i really think that monta is the perfect PG for this system.  plus im sure jack will handle the ball (hoepfully with less turnovers) close to half the time which will give monta the chance to come off some screens....

As far as defense this will leave monta guarding the other teams PG, which is all he can do right now, it will put Jack on the 2 or 3 depending who is better, and magette will take the worse of the two.

Everybody's freakin out about this PG situation, and i agree we need a backup, but dont worry, Monta is gonna handle it, and he will be an all star....there is and always will be a method to nellie's madness

yeah

I’d actually have to agree with what you’re saying. In my opinion, in a system like Nellies, a traditional point guard really isn’t necessary. When the name of the game is spread the floor, find the open shooter, you need a PG that can drive to the basket at will (sucking in perimeter defenders with him thus having an open kick out) and its pretty obvious that there aren’t many players in this league that can stay in front of Monta. And like you said, Monta’s growth with the little hook/curl passes has grown immensely over the course of last season and if he is given the green light to take it to the hole at will he will definitely get more dimes then most of us would have thought. Just my .02

hell yeah...

im positive he’ll get it over deron williams, tony parker, steve nash, chris paul and baron davis. all pure point guards. hope they all get hurt. im a warrior fan but be realistic

no doubt in my mind he will be an allstar

eventually if not next year. he has tons of ability. but is that going to be enough to take us back to the playoffs. he is the face of the franchise now. this is his team but does he have what it takes to be the man. i dont think so. i think he lacks the intangables. the kind that separate allstar players from elite players. im not a monta hater im just not seeing it.

i hear ya rach

...on the intangibles, but dont forget how great of a competitor this kid is…there are certain things you can pick up with experience and i reckon certain intangibles will show up soon enough

if Monta

becomes and All-Star next season and Baron doesn’t, man that would be sweet.

by GoldenStateDubtronic on Jul 17, 2008 3:18 PM PDT reply actions

Monta is

better suited for point on this team than any other in the league. He will be like Iverson, except not playing a halfcourt system. Plus he has Jax to help. Livingston as his backup fsho though

ONLY...

MONTA doesn’t have the handles IVERSON does! I just hope if he does play the point that he doesn’t regress back to committing a ton of turnovers! What good is scoring 20ppg when you’re turning the ball over 6 times pg, not to mention at the most crucial times?!

NEVER LIKE AI

he will never be as good as AI. he’ll be good but not better

Won't

be an allstar next season, but I agree that people are freaking out about this situation when they don’t need to. He will work as a PG in Nellie’s system.

apparantly

none of this is obvious to a whole lot of people, cuz half the people who post on this website are reccomending we get starbury…talk about misguided desperation

awfully optimistic

I hate to kill the momentum, but Monta Ellis has never played point guard in his life; and all of a sudden he’s the PERFECT PG for our team?

In addition to that, he’s going to be the #1 focus of every defense we play against. Long gone are the days when team’s just focused on Baron and Monta was free to run around the court and do what he wants.

I expect to see a whole lot of turnovers, a whole lot of scoring, not alot of defense, and a whole lot of fun and entertainment with Monta at point.

Yep, He’s gonna be the deer in the jacklight. No Boom to hide behind any more!

the point was..

that he is better playing point guard for this team than any other team….this is really the only place were he can get by at point guard because of the system…heres where i think your wrong:
1. even if the defense focuses on him, he still is one of the quickest guys in the league and he will get by people
2. he will have more turnovers than a true PG, but he is in his fourth year, and he should be able to dribble, and drive and kick without turning it over all the time
3. im sure he played every position for his high school team, including point! haha

optimism is the blood of the warriors fan…hell why else are we still fans after those 14 years

by c-lap on Jul 17, 2008 5:41 PM PDT reply actions

huh

he wont be no all star, all our best player always get hated on in the all star voting. The only way he make the team if he leave. I don’t want to names anybody since the list goes on and on.haha

by warriorfan4life on Jul 17, 2008 6:02 PM PDT reply actions

you forget fans vote

Fans love the warriors. Everyone knows were the most entertaining team in the NBA and FANS love entertainment. There is no reason why fans wouldn’t vote for Monta if they see enough of his ability. We are on the map of top teams in the NBA now so don’t knock on him becoming an allstar.

by bojangles408 on Jul 17, 2008 6:21 PM PDT reply actions

fans vote on starters...

you think he’s going to get more votes than guys like kobe, cp3, tracy mcgrady, deron williams, or nash?

by kinetic on Jul 17, 2008 9:06 PM PDT up reply actions

Then why would Baron get locked out last year?

Fans vote for the players of their favorite teams. Luis Scola getting 100K votes? Huh? Whatever. All Star still means nothing.

gimme rubba DUB love..

monta running the offense will be a treat to watch, the back up pg is essential though, i hope watson is evolving into that now, leading summer league in steals, baby! 4.3/game… i agree having jackson as point forward should also work well.

i sure hope magette is adept at scoring on zone d.
last year, w’s offense broke down at times when teams switched to zone.
remember all those sequences where nellie had to put baron near the free throw line to look to pass or penetrate? baron was our only option, everyone else was shut down.

as for monta being an all-star, there are so many other good guards in the west, he doesn’t really have a shot. i think biedrins has w’s best shot of being an all-star. not that he’s the best player on the team, but his position has fewer people that are really great.

Haha, We were on the edge of the map two years ago but fell off last year and are now replaced by the Boom Dizzle LA clippers. No one but a homer wants to watch Belinelli, Randolph, Dris, Wright or Montay. The national fans might tune in to watch Jax or Harrington but will soon tune out when they find out there’s no longer any reason to believe!

Why would a national fan tune in to watch Harrington?

Is he the big draw now?

I guarantee you more people would rather watch Monta than Harrington. You are severely underrating his appeal, probably because of that axe you have to grind with him for some personal reason.

by belilaugh on Jul 18, 2008 8:32 PM PDT up reply actions

Why would a national fan tune in to watch Harrington?

Cause he’s been around long enough to have name recognition from playing with the pacers and atl. Montay is still a new kid on the NBA block. only about 1/30 of the national fans are Warrior fans so it will take a while for him to get known. I ‘ve never met him so how could I have a personal axe to grind? (I do have a chainsaw that needs sharpening if you are offering?) I just want him to stick to what he does best and let others do the same, I don’t like the concept of molding a team around a flawed player. Do you?
