Azubuike signs with Clips
One of our NBA insiders here at FOXSports.com just called (since he knows I'm a die-hard Dubs fan) to let me know that Kelenna David Azubuike has signed an offer sheet with none other than the Los Angeles Clippers. Financial terms of the offer were not yet known. Let's hope it's not too much for Mully and Co. to match...

I thought he was a RFA? That means the dubs get a chance to match their offer…

He is a good Cinderella story
with a lot of pages missing from the end of the story. He is a great kid to admire -> as a lot of you do! However, don’t get your panties in a knot! It’s a good move for him. Maybe he sticks with the Clips instead of the back and forth from the D-League like Mikey Moore used to be before he stuck!

Got game? Well, he can shoot. A lot.
Kinda like a machine gun; he sprays them up there, but not necessarily at a higher percentage than anyone else, based on what I’ve seen. That may be do to poor shot selection, but still… And he plays no defense and he doesn’t rebound. It’s not clear to me that the (theoretical) shooting upside makes up for the no-D, no-rebounds. Kelenna whoops him on those fronts, and he’s at least a decent shooter.

D?
he’s a shooting guard. they dont play D anyways. their job in the nba is to score. besides, you’re already paying him all that money, might as well use him. and he plays for the warriors!!!! its a good shot as long as it hits the rim.

nellies words to croshere when he first got to the team was to shoot and he dont care if it dont go in. he just has to get a shot off. he’s not just saying that to be stupid, he says that to take pressure off a player. you gotta read between the lines bro.

yeah but
he’s just going to say that the Warriors starters are in his fave 5 and that they told him that shooting guards are only suppose to score and not play a lick of D.
then he’s going to say that his posts are not even his ideas but he’s merely quoting from all the players that he knows on a sleep over at their house basis.

This is true but...
I think Marco can see the court better than Kelenna. I’m basing that on the little time that I’ve seen him play but the potential is definitely there. I’d rather get rid of Barnes than Buike but this is a business and we had too many 2’s on the team anyway. The clippers don’t look that bad now… Boom, Camby & Buike.

by hyphy cowboy on Jul 17, 2008 2:53 PM PDT 0 recs
Are you kidding?
Competing for the starting 2 spot (Gordon/Mobley) or starting 3 spot (Thorton/Thomas). Naw this move by bukie is a financial one plan and simple. He’d be happy going to LA for more $$$ or staying in the Bay for the same cash to be a backup.

Sorry fellas
he probably ain’t coming back. Stuck behind Tay, Maggs, Jack and supposedly Belly Nelly…
Mullin’s not gonna fork out $3m per for Bookie when he still has decisions to make regarding Tay and Dre.
Plus Bookie gets to play with Diddy and play in LA and the chance to eventually start.

not neccessarily
If Monta is gonna run the point with Jack and Maggette at the 2 and 3 respectively there should be plenty of minutes for Bellinelli AND another wing player. Since Kelenna knows the system and has shown promise I would expect they match the offer.

this actually is a test of GS resolve to play Ellis at the PG – if they are committing to do so, KAz is the best wing off the bench

We gotta match. We’re not as deep as we want to pretend. Marco is no substitute for KA. Plus, think about the guns we’d be packing with both Maggette and Azubuike on the floor at the same time!
Hopefully we’re just letting the market dictate price, and more importantly trying to see how the Turiaf deal settles before we lock up dough. My guess is that if Turiaf signs, we sign KA and we’re basically done. But if the Lakers match Turiaf we’re back to having a decent chunk of $$ and we might try to test the market one last time before locking down $3MM with KA and eating our FA space…

the Warriors basically have gone
-Baron, Kelenna, Barnes, Pietrus
but
+ Belinelli, Maggette
Keep Azubuike! With Jackson and Maggette in the starting lineup the only real reserves for those positions are Belinelli and Randolph (ha). Azubuike would make a great sixth or seventh man.

Clips
can still resign Livingston, but only to a league min. contract. The only reason he would resign with the Clips is because they would still possess his Bird rights, which would allow them to pay him whatever they wanted without affecting the cap. “Peg-leg” most like won’t be ready to play this year until the all star break at the earliest anyway, and that is a best case scenario. GSW could probably snag him if they wanted, for the right $$.

I’m really disappointed to hear this. The ESPN article says that we have Monta, Jack, Maggette and Marco all ahead of him at his position but that’s decieving. Monta should get most of his minutes at the one. Jack and Maggette should start at SG/SF, which leaves Marco and Buike. IMO Buike still figures to be that first wing off the bench.
If the figure is actually $3mil per I’d say match and keep him here. He is the only guy in that group who has consistently shot the 3 well in the NBA.

I dont think there’s “too much congestion” at those spots.
We lost Monta (as he’s moving to the one), Barnes, Pietrus and potentially Kelenna.
Although we did gain Belinelli and Maggette in our lineup.
I think we’ve lost more than we’ve gained if we let Azubuike slip away.
If I’m not mistaken, a team is allowed to go over cap for their own RFAs. 3mil/yr to Kelenna and 4mil/yr to Turiaf doesn’t sound too bad to me.

Buike is a proven commodity. And Beli is already costing us $1.5MM/year, with no guarantee yet that he’ll ever fill a role. In 2 years you might be begging to swap Beli’s $$ for Buike…
Heck, we payed Barnes $3MM last year. Would you reinvest that in Buike this year?

i will worry....
about that in 2 years. we may or may not make it to the playoffs this year. is buike really going to be the deciding factor that we do? i think not. i am just saying that since we aren’t where we want to be yet ( a championship caliber team), than let’s see what bellie got. we all get so excited bout his potential, but get miffed bout not re-signing a mediocre player that will prevent him from getting playing time.
ur question bout barnes and reinvesting in buike is a bonehead question. of course i would reinvest in buike for 3mill if that’s what we did for barnes last year. we threw away 3 mill on barnes, why not do the same for buike? he would have to play like shit if he were to do what barnes did last year. i doubt that would happen. perhaps ur quesstion should be….would i match the offer clips gave him? NOPE. time to move on. i was a fan of buike but as mentioned…i want to see bellie’s potential

that are 22 and scored 20 ppg last season. you are right, every team has at last one. why re-sign him then for 10 mil? let him go.
i only mean’t he is a dime a dozen cuz buike will never be a starting 2 guard. i just think there is too much fuss over a guy competing for the second or 3rd spot at SG.

He played him a fairly reasonable amount given his production. 22mpg is just about the average for all players. It puts him as a solid backup, but not a top of the rotation player. That’s more or less exactly what his on court production suggests he’s good for as well. I have no qualms about how much (or how little) he played based on last year’s usage. Seems about right.
Looking at it this way: He’s playing about 10% of the minutes on the team. That’s substantial enough that having an average production player is going to be a whole lot more helpful than having a garbage time player, which, if Belinelli gets the minutes and hasn’t improved a bunch is what we’ll see.
