Dooling to the Nets, makes M. Williams odd man out
http://www.nj.com/nets/index.ssf/2008/07/nj_nets_agree_to_signandtrade.html
I have discussed this scenario before. I think that the possible new acquisition of Keyon Dooling will only make Marcus Williams even more expendable for the Nets. He's a young player with much potential, but has been given limited PT due to J. Kidd, and D. Harris, let's at least add him to our roster for whatever minimal costs it be, it's a minimum risk. With Buike likely gone, we can always keep an eye out for another 3rd string PG if we're not happy with CJ and M. William's performance. Although I think CJ is thoroughly proving himself in summer league. What do you guys think ?

Williams
There was a time when i watched Marcus Williams play with the Nets and i thought to myself that he would be the future pg of that team. I always thought the kid had a lot of skill. He’s a pass-first pg compared to CJ being a scoring pg. If we could afford him, i hope the warriors would consider the guy.
I pray i never have to use a gun again...

...and somebody tries to run me over with their car...
...But how often does that happen??

Pass first by default...............
the only reason this guy is a pass first pg is because his o game is wack….............illl take CJ any day over this cat…at least CJ is a threat on offense…...teams will take this into account and crowd cj leaving the other players to hit shots…......................i say no….but then agian i have been wrong before.

does the fact that
the Nets chose to go after Dooling rather than hold firm with their own guy suggest that maybe MWilliams isn’t the answer at PG? The team that knows him best is moving him down their charts. Not sure myself, haven’t seen enough of him to make a judgment, but it is one indicator …

not necessarily...
Remember, they already bet on Devin Harris as their lead PG, so they’re really just looking for a backup. Dooling is a combo guard who plays D. whereas Williams is more of a true PG. They are more likely shuffling assets to get the best combo of skills.

trade TPE?
wtf -
”... Keyon Dooling is close to becoming a Net. League sources said the Nets and Magic are close to agreeing on a sign-and-trade for the point guard Lawrence Frank pursued three years ago. Dooling would sign a three-year deal for between $10 million and $11 million and then be sent to the Nets for their $3.3 million trade exception acquired from Dallas in the Jason Kidd trade. – Bergen Record “
is there ANYone on GSoM that doesn’t know you cant trade a TPE by now? Or have we been misguided all along …

Yes, and No. They probably know what they can do with it. Must be some good use of these things otherwise they wouldn’t waste the time thinking up fancy names for them?

The timing here is interesting, as this trade was announced around the trade it was announced that we officially had Turiaf. They really don’t need Williams now, and Pree has said the Warriors were looking at a “small move” netting “mutiple assets”... could something like Al for Williams/Krstic be in the offing?
If we made that deal, and retained Monta, Beans AND Buike, I’d be really happy with this offseason. It’d still be a worse team than last year’s, but it’d be a well-balanced roster, well-designed to see what we have in our young ‘uns. If we don’t retain Buike, I like it less - I just don’t see any scenario where he’s not worth keeping at that price - but it’d still be decent.
Cart before horse, o’ course, but I’m interested to see what happens here.

Al for Williams/Krstic
meh
Krstic isn’t going to replace Al’s production, he’d back up Andris and more than likely Turiaf would end up playing a lot of Harrington’s old minutes with Wright – pretty low scoring four-some inside (Wright has yet to prove to me he can score well in summer league much less regular season) and maybe not any better rebounding …
Wiliams isn’t going to play much either – even as Ellis’ primary backup. He’s not any bigger than Ellis, Jax & Maggette will play more minutes at the wings and Nelson can and will use Jax to initiate offense if Jax, Maggs, and KAz (hopefully) are on the floor together while Ellis rests
Al + KAz with Turiaf backing up Andris is stronger than Krstic+Williams with Turiaf playing alongside Andris

but
if the idea is to get Wright more minutes its not a bad trade. I dont really like Krstic (do we want another poor rebounder?) but Williams would be a good backup PG. I’m not really for or against that trade.

I don’t think much of Harrington. I think he’s infinitely replaceable. But he’s much, much better than Krstic, who makes you more likely to lose with every second he spends on the court.
