You can't blame Baron
First off Baron is not a traitor.
You can't blame Baron. The Warriors organization has been unassertive in bringing in caliber players for the longest time. If you look at the past year...After the playoffs where we lost to the Jazz, the Warrior's front office didn't acquire anyone that would lead us further for the following year. We knew the Jazz would be better with Derron Williams improving. We needed a big man or a center this year that would help carry the load for exhausted key players like Baron. Fast forward to the All-Star break, the Warriors stilll didn't trade anyone for an elite player that could help us in our playoff push. The Lakers were in the exact same position as we were, around 7th place, until they got Pau Gasol. Look what that did for them. The Warriors stayed exactly the same. Fast forward again to this week. The Warriors had a 9.9 million dollar trade exception that we didn't even use that expired on Monday. The only thing they did was offer Gilbert Arenas a max contract that we knew he wasn't going to accept anyways because the Wizards already signed Jamison and Arenas already made a public verbal agreement that he would take a pay-cut to keep the team together. Another thing, we didn't even attempt to trade up in this years supreme draft where we could have gotten someone awesome. Sigh, I can't see Nelson leading this team anywhere this year. He's not the type of coach that can begin "reconstruction" mode and he's not equipped to teach rookies either. Nelson also said he would allow time for the rookies at the expense of victories. You can't blame Baron for wanting out. Without another star type of player on the team he would have to play a lot of minutes. Minutes that would probably lead to another injury. As his agent I would have done the same thing. If he did decide to stay with the Warriors for one more year he knew that they wouldn't have enough money to sign anyone else besides Monta and Biedrins. He needed a long term future and he got it with the Clippers who are going to get Elton Brand back as well as Eric Gordon, Mobley, Kaman, and Thorton. They are going to be good. Offering Gilbert Arenas the max deal basically told Baron that he wasn't worth it and that he didn't mean anything to the franchise anymore (probably). Anyways, it's gonna be long season, maybe even a decade. At least the A's are doing well; whatever happened to the SaberCats? Oh well. Go Niners!
If the Warriors don't do anything for Baron, for what reason would Baron do anything for the Warriors? He's done memorable things for this franchise. Honestly, what did you think this next season was going to turn out like not acquiring an elite player?

you hit it right
Offering Gilbert Arenas the max deal basically told Baron that he wasn’t worth it and that he didn’t mean anything to the franchise anymore (probably).
and Gilbert Arenas wouldn’t exactly win any “healthy player of the year” awards. It was a total slap in the face for BD. I don’t blame him one bit. The only one I’ll boo over this is Mullin for being an idiot.

What the hell?
There’s no proof Mullin even tendered an offer. As far as I’m concerned, it’s all hearsay at this point.

No no no...
It was hearsay when people thought Baron wanted $100mil. No one knew the dollar amount but the consensus was this: he wanted 5 years. Geoff Lepper of the CC Times said he wanted 5 years at 14 per, Tim Kawakami thought he wanted 5 years at 15 per, the guys on KNBR thought it was 5 years at 11 per. Now he’s accepted a 5 year contract at 13 per with the Clips while we KNOW that Mully best try at retaining Barons’ services was a 2 year deal at 14 per. Not only that but his response was to offer Arena’s $101 mil?

You want further proof that management screwed this up? They reached out to Elton Brand in an effort to appease the fans after losing the best player and getting nothing in return.

Boils down to this
He’s had his only recent healthy year and if he can’t get a multi-year deal now, it’s not going to get better. If the Warriors aren’t going to give him one, but his hometown team is, and they’re decent to boot, it’s a no-brainer.
The only ambiguity is whether or not he knew he’d get that deal before he opted out, and of course a cynic says yes.

i can blame him
because he decided to leave us without telling us, AFTER a draft… he made it sting moe by picking a division rival and pretty much screwing us for years to come unless we make something happen fast.

a team from his hometown
offered him better long-term guaranteed money and a shot to win now.
Baron made the right choice. The Dubz would not have won with the amount of projects on the roster during Baron’s prime years. This was a no-brainer.
Blame him all you want, but think about it the next time you switch jobs because you feel under-appreciated and lowballed.

I just don't think
it was a concerted move on his part. I think he weighed all his options and then when he REALLY had to make a decision, he opted out. Maybe I’m being naive.

my bad, meant to say you really CAN'T
dude brought back a franchise that was the laughing stock in the league. all he wanted was a long term contract, but our poorly ran franchise felt that he wasn’t worth 6 years. on top of that, after he opted out, they offer gilbert a 100+ million for 6 years! wtf man?! that’s a total slap in the face, especially when he put the franchise on his back and did majority of the work to get them where they are at now.
it takes $$$ to win games and even championships in ALL sports. if we got a cheap-skate owner, then how the hell are we going to make it anywhere?
