Hey everyone, this is my first post on GSOM but have been a diehard Warriors fan for years. I just wanted to put my opinion out there and see how you all feel about it.
For starters, I am obviously upset about the loss of B Diddy. He is my favorite player and completely turned the Warriors around. But his departure makes sense unfortunately, and us Warriors fans are now going to have to suffer.
By losing Baron and it happening so late (after the draft and after the trade exception) we have put ourselves in a deep whole. We will resign Monta and Biedrins, along with many of our bench players. What does that leave us with? Another team destined for the lottery with no hopes on making the playoffs. I read some posts with people saying we will still be a threat ..... no way. Without a superstar like Baron, we wont keep up with even half the teams in the West. Spurs, Lakers, Hornet, Suns, Mavericks, Jazz, Rockets are all unquestionably better than us now. Portland just got Bayless AND Oden AND a year older of experience, meaning they are now better than us. Denver, even though all the turmoil exists, is still better than us. And of course the Clippers are better than us, especially after they resign Brand. That leaves us ahead of Sactown, Minnesota, Seattle, and Memphis. On paper I have us finishing at best 11th in the west. And THAT is hoping none of those last 4 teams pulls a surprise and has a good season.
As for the Warriors acquiring another star to replace Baron, I don't see any hope. Gilber will resign with the Wiz, Brand will resign with the Clipps. I doubt we pry Josh Smith from the Hawks. Really, who else is left? I bet Mullin sits on the team for a year, we blow, and hope to get a high draft pick and pickup a star in next years FA class. Its pretty upsetting that JUST when the Warriors were starting to give us all hope, they have once again been dismantled. Not to try and blame anyone, but didnt Don Nelson do this 10/15 years ago with C Webb? Different scenarios but still, it makes you wonder. And how much do you all wish we still had J Rich. At least we would have some hope with the dunk champ of the world.
All being said, I am very disappointed that the Warriors are once again in a rebuilding stage. All we can hope for it that B Wright and Randolph turn into stars next to Monta and Biedrins. S Jax will only be around another year or so max, and Harrington will start to fold soon. How do you all feel about this?
