Javaris Crittenton and/or Shaun Livingston

The Warriors need ball handlers, baller’s who can CREATE for the team as well as CREATE when the moment calls for a big play. We have shaky ball handlers who make you hold your breath whenever they make an attempt (i.e. Jax & Monta). I have noticed this for a while, even with Baron, his handle has been getting more suspect this past season. I know we need bigs down low, but now with Baron off the roster, the Dubz need an initiator BAD!

I am going to go back to the 2007 NBA Draft and re-enforce a stance I had during that period. In the beginning of the draft I had a target for the Dubz to get. I analyzed all possible players that would be available at our spot in the first round (#18) and the absolute best prospect/fit for the Dubz was Javaris Crittenton. His size and skill was obvious, but what made him stick out to me is the fact that you couldn’t really find another Point Guard that fits what the Warriors do on the court. In a way, I felt that Javaris would be able to maintain the Warriors style of play once Baron does leave. He is young and talented in a way that one can’t help but compare to Baron, thus would make sense in regards to working toward the future AND maintaining the style of play we have all come to love.

The best way to describe Javaris is to read an analysis of him from http://nbadraft.net/admincp/profiles/javariscrittenton.html (which is an excellent site on prospects)

Tremendous combination of size, athleticism and playmaking ability ... Quick first step ... Excellent vision and passing skills ... His size allows him to see over defenders and make passes that the average 6-2 PG could not ... Shows great heart, very competitive. Won’t back down from a challenge ... Very quick, an elite level athlete ... Loves to dunk on players ... Excellent body strength ... Rhythm shooter, with good slashing and scoring ability ... His huge hands give him excellent control of the ball ... Very unselfish player ... Excellent foot speed, overall quickness and effort makes him a tough defensive player ... Works hard to improve his game, very coachable ... Has a great attitude, confident but not cocky ...

When the Warriors took Marco Belinelli with the #18 pick, I saw the reason, but I did not see the LOGIC when a backup point guard was obviously a big need (proved now with the predicament we are in now). I had to assume that the Warriors management did not like what they saw in Javaris, but I still know that when the pick was made and he was still on the board, I was mad. When Baron Opted out then verbally agreed to sign with the Clippers, the same emotion came back and made me so eager to find a way to run up in Chris Mullins office and state my case to go get Javaris like he should have done first of all in the 2007 NBA Draft!

Javaris is available NOW, the warriors need a Point Guard NOW, and honestly, they do not have any great realistic options. Do not waste a spot by signing an average reliable Point Guard. Since this fiasco has erupted, go all out and get a young, talented Point Guard that will fit the Warriors style and maintain for today and still add to the growth for the future. I really do not want a Kirk Hinrich or any of those average players out there. The Warriors kept doing that for 13 years when they got players like Mookie Blaylock, an old John Starks, Nick Van Exel, Bimbo Coles…”average at best” players. We stick to average and mediocre players and did not take chances of greatness then and I defiantly do not want to see that today, It didn’t work.

I also like Shaun Livingston too, he is not too similar to Javaris, but is still big (height wise) and young and talented. Take a chance, Baron was injury prone, so that is no excuse to not go after Shaun and SETTLE for Kirk Hinrich. We need SPECIAL players and management needs to correct their logic to this NBA game and business, like on the court they need to be aggressive, take real chances and make moves that can pay off BIG. Mediocrity is no longer an option, we need to play great now and play great in the future.

So I said it then in the 2007 NBA Draft and I say it NOW “Post Baron” and say Javaris Crittenton and/or Shaun Livingston (I would not mind both) should be top priority and required by Warriors Management, all other options just do not do it for this franchise………….Anyone know Mullins phone number??

"do not waste a spot by signing an average reliable point guard"

so, i guess we should waste one on a below average, unrealiable point guard like crittenton? livingston is a worthwhile risk, but crittenton has shown nothing that makes me want him in a dubs jersey this year. if we can’t get livingston and can get the “average reliable” guy you spoke of, on the cheap, we should jump at it. next year’s draft is loaded with point guards who could be a force going forward for the team.

Let me explain further, seems like you don't quite get it......

Yes, Javaris is unproven, BUT…..his potential for greatness is a lot higher then say a Kirk Hinrich (similar to the B Wright and A Randolph selections). If we get Kirk, we know what we are getting yes, which is a capable player to run the team, but is he really going to lead us to a deep playoff run and become a special player on a special team, I do not see that, he is what he is, a fill in guard. Personally, I don’t mind taking a risk right now on a player like Javaris who, yes may be a bust, but on the other end of the spectrum, become a star. Management seems to get stuck in the “average yet reliable” mode, the same ish the warriors were on for the 13 years they were a bottom franchise. Like I said, Mookie, Bimbo Coles, Speedy Claxton, the list goes on and on. All them (and then some) were all players the warriors new even before they joined the team, were not going to be that “IT” player that would take us to the promise land, they just were, and I hate this, “RELIABLE”.

Get me Javaris or Shaun and I would be happy and excited to see what plays out, because unlike with these other players being discussed, we could really hit it BIG TIME.

I agree

Lets take a shot on Crittenton for future picks and then I say we sign both LIVINGSTON who was starting to look really good before he got injured and Kwame Brown- who sucks, but he is a big body and definitely still has potential.

That would make our roster:

PG: Crittenton/Livingston
SG: Monta/Bellinelli
SF:SJax/Buike/AR
PF: TMNT/Wright/Hendrix
C: Beans/K. Brown

The problem is that even if Crittenton, Monta, AR, Wright, and Beans all reached their potential I don’t know if we’d have what it takes to win a championship…Who would be our leader?? Who has that IT factor?

This team woudl have 5 young guys with potential to be really good. All of these guys can be allstars, but I don’t know if any of them have the right combination of skill, heart, charisma, and leadership to be a superstar.

The only team to win an NBA championship without a superstar that I can remember is the Detroit Pistons. Baron was a superstar, he had that it factor, and was able to put the entire bay on his shoulders to upset the Mavs and give the JAzz a run for their money.

Until baron left we were a quality banger adn maybe a couple bench players away from making a good run in the playoffs. Now we are hoping we can make the playoffs in a few years if our guys pan out. * you Mullin, * you Cohan, you ruined my summer.

Exactly!

I’m sort of a GT homer, but I always thought the 2 best options for the dubs were Jarret Jack and Javaris Crittendon. Mostly because they are not ball hog scorers but floor generals and team leaders. Right now the biggest void Baron left is in team leadership. Monta is not a leader and quite frankly doesn’t appear to have the characteristics necessary to be a leader. Granted JJ will not light it up in the points category but I think his hustle, defense and ball handling are the skills which would help the dubs in the short and long term. Javaris has a higher ceiling but will probably not be fully developed for another season.

I’m sort of thinking that we should do an Al for Darko and Javaris deal. Then just play all of our young players and see what we’ve got. I don’t think we can compete with what we have in the upcoming season so why put up aimless mediocrity? Play our guys, see where we’re at and make the right moves so that we can compete in 2 to 3 years.

PG: Javaris / CJ
SG: Monta / Marco
SF: Jax / ? (Kelenna please come back!)
PF: BWright / Randolph
C: Biedrins / Darko

Probably not the best lineup to play in our old system, but I think its something Nellie could work with. Probably 10th in the west maybe worse?

I say we go get crittenton and Livingston and still shop free agent market for our general

These are both minimal salary players and would be great additions even if off the bench, I would also take kwame Brown if the price is right.
