Warriors are after Brand

I guess you can call this breaking news!!

After Clippers swipe Davis, Warriors go after Brand

Star-divide

I'm sure excited to see how all this pans out. Monta, Jax and Brand... This could be something great...

Janny Hu reports that the Warriors are indeed going after Brand and offered him a 5 year deal between 85 - 90 million...

*gasp*

I wonder if Brand will bite...

It boggles my mind how a turn of events can either break or make your teams dreams and hopes... Here's to a successful 2008-2009 season... *CROSSES FINGERS*

I'm happy for Baron and wish him all the success... I truly believe that his departure to LA is a blessing in disguise... Now, let's see what the Warriors front office has in mind as the summer unfolds. Could it be Brand... to the Warriors?!

This is a huge risk but damn it would be a HUGE REWARD!!!

Just heard on Radnich.

Pull the rug out from under Baron. Nice.

by bucknall20 on Jul 2, 2008 10:49 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

If Brand leaves LAC

Baron would be left in the colllllllllllllllllllllllllllllld

no brand, no mags, just boom & kman in the middle

another knee-jerk reaction by Mullin, but a better one than going after Arenas – maybe he’s learning? Naaaaaaaaaaaa

IT”S NOT GONNA HAPPEN GUYS – MULLIN GOT SMOKED

wouldn’t expect it to happen tho, the who situation smacks of players playing GM and Baron & Brand did a much much better job than Mullin

brand can take $70m and compete for WCF with Baron or take $85m and play for a lame duck coach on a middling playoff caliber team

we are about to hear GS going after every FA possible in desperation – which is when Mullin makes his biggest mistakes in the past

Hardcore

Your obviously lost, This is not a clippers board. Are you the one Cliiper fan in the world. Clips won 23 games last year, Warriros won 48. I think Brand knows who the better team is. Also why play for a team who is teh ugly stepchild in LA. The Lkaers will always be the team down there, when you can play at the RORACLE arena in fornt of sell out crowds and be treated liek a king. The Sterling lead Clippers will always be the laughing stock of the league. Brand to the Warrios and WCF is here now!

Brand is not going anywhere ...

the CLIPPERS just became relevant!

by D3F1N1T3 on Jul 2, 2008 11:04 AM PDT   0 recs

Umm...

BD/Brand/Kaman and who? Doesn’t even come close to LAL, SAS, UTA. Gets them in the picture with the second tier, but not above. They would match up well with LAL though… We’ll see.

by Dubs fan in Boston on Jul 2, 2008 11:22 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

ummm...

their first eight is better than ours. how do you figure?

b. davis
mobley
thornton
brand
kaman

e.gordon (he will get roy votes)
ross (shutdown D)
knight

"It's not my fault your team's so shitty." -Steve Friend, head coach, Chabot College, to Laney College's head coach, who asked why we scored so many runs after we beat Laney 30-3 in 2006

by flipgatey3 on Jul 2, 2008 11:54 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I think that BD, Brand & Kaman would make a formidable trio

against SA, Utah & the Lakers. Thorton & Bynum are a wash. Brand > Gasol. Kobe < Davis. Kaman & Odom are a wash (productivity wise). Mobley > Vuacic/Radmanovic/Fisher. The Clippers could be big if they can assemble that team.

by Mr. Monday Night on Jul 2, 2008 12:12 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

ok thats ridiculous

bynum>>>thornton, you cant compare a fairly dominant 7’0 center to a decent 6’8 athletic swingman

it would be more of a bynum = kaman comparison, i sure hope that was a typo on baron and kobe, and odom would destroy thornton. and theres no way mobley is better than fish and vujacic, vujacic plays some hounding d

by Thoang77 on Jul 2, 2008 12:22 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

And that was a typo w/ Kobe

I’m not that drunk yet. 2 drinks during happy hour to get through the day is good for the eyes

by Mr. Monday Night on Jul 2, 2008 3:16 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Thorton and Bynum a wash? Only if Bynum is injured and not playing.

by jae on Jul 2, 2008 12:36 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

He said Thorton, not Thornton

I guess you didn’t get the memo about Aloysius X. Thorton, the 7’0” 285 pound beast who at age 20 put up 12.7 reb and 2.6 blocks per 36 minutes and shot 63.6% from the floor?

Damn: Andrew Bynum is four years younger than Al Thornton. Now that’s scary.

He isn't playing

That’s why they’re a wash. DUH!

by Mr. Monday Night on Jul 2, 2008 3:15 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I hope that any team the sixers, memphis or warriors get elton brand. I don’t want to see him wearing a clippers jersey.

by Jiri Welch on Jul 2, 2008 11:11 AM PDT   0 recs

Rumor has it

He will sign his 5 year 70 million deal wed. Nice try guys, sounds great on paper, but reality hurts in this case

by pinkycheal on Jul 2, 2008 11:33 AM PDT   0 recs

Pinky

no contracts can be signed until July 9th. Plus my sources say Brand is coming here.

by smearthebeard on Jul 2, 2008 11:15 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

who are your sources?

elton brand and chris mullin?

by cap'n hack on Jul 2, 2008 11:17 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Brand will sign with the Warriors for 85 million.

But Don Nelson is going to bench him for most of the year or possibly give him 15 minutes a game because he sees an upside in starting Austin Croshere where he gets 42 minutes a game.

Brand won’t get along with Don Nelson by next mid season because Nelson expected him to play point guard for us to fill Baron’s shoes. By that time, Brand demands a trade. We end up with Luke Walton and Mbenga for Elton Brand

Waaaah.

-The end.

(by the way, Croshere signs for $450,000 for one year.)

would be great if it could actually work out,but it’s probably not likely

by AJC3317 on Jul 2, 2008 2:31 PM PDT   0 recs

over 100 mill over 5 yrs

id rather go with josh smith for half of that and use the rest on a veteran PG

aka GOLDENBOYWARRIOR

by gogomaplata on Jul 2, 2008 2:36 PM PDT   0 recs

Brand

wouldn’t work under Nellie anyways, GS would lose a year if they signed him.

by greala on Jul 2, 2008 3:08 PM PDT   0 recs

sign him

then trade harrington and anthony for artest.

pg: Monta
sg: Jackson
sf: Artest
pf: Brand
c: Biedrins

Baron Vs. Brand

If we pull this off it is a steal!!! If before they all opted out a straight up trade of Baron for Elton was ont he table we would have jumped on it right away. If we get Brand that is what has basically happened. Baron for Brand. and by the way the Clippers have always sucked. They are always gonna be 2nd fiddle in LA and if you put Brand on our team it will be 50+ wins while the Clips win maybe 40. Out team is better with Brand on it than the Clippers. Its just fact!

by smearthebeard on Jul 2, 2008 4:50 PM PDT   0 recs

no way the dubs are a 50 win team with brand

brand would solve some of our problems, but we still wouldn’t have anyone to run the run and gun offense that this team is built for. or anyone to run any offense we might go with, for that matter. monta is not a point guard; he’s a small 2 guard, so that doesn’t work. i just don’t see an improvement over last year if we get brand, which gives us a lot less cap space than we could have if we don’t make a desperate play for him. and the fact that a team has always sucked doesn’t mean that they are a sure bet to continue to suck. the addition of davis makes the clippers a very respectable team. the addition of brand makes us a team with some talent and tons of question marks.

by cap'n hack on Jul 3, 2008 12:45 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

um

If we get Brand, we screw the “run and gun offense”. We’d be getting a career 20/10/2 real post guy. We stop trying to simply outrun our opponents and we stop trying to make 30 3pointers every game and we finally play real basketball. We move Monta Ellis to the 1 and we pair him with a shooting guard that can run the offense, our guard defensive mismatches are fixed. Brand defending the post, Biedrins/Randolph/Wright roaming as help defenders: our interior defensive problems are fixed. Brand/Biedrins pulling down 10 boards a game: the rebounding is fixed. Add a couple veteran swingmen that know how to win and we’ll be fine.

by YaHeard on Jul 3, 2008 1:50 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

We're not getting him

I wish we were, but other than the money, whats the allure of coming here anymore?

by Number22Drew on Jul 2, 2008 4:59 PM PDT   0 recs

Man I wish this could happen...

I love even more the idea of dealing harrington afterwards. I don’t care if monta is a typical point gaurd a pick and role with monta and brand would be near impossible to defend against. It does not take a rocket scientist to see the potential. I am not sure if 100 million is justified but I still like what Mullie did. If Baron is gonna leave then we will take whatever would have gotten him to the dance. Good Move. We Will See how it turns out
