What about Allen Iverson
Don’t worry about Josh Smith! Why don’t we trade for Allen Iverson?
What you guy’s think?
Why?
We have a younger version of Allen Iverson in Monta Ellis. No need to do so.

You dont think Atlanta would take
Al Harrington and brandan wright for josh smith, when he might just sign a on eyear tender and leave in a year?? I would even do BWright, Al and a 2010 first round for josh
Why would Atlanta do this?
Josh Smith is a 22-year old borderline all-star, was born, raised, and played High School ball in an Atlanta suburb, he has improved his game every year, and Atlanta is coming off a season where they nearly upset the eventual NBA champs in the Playoffs.
Atlanta has already had Harrington on their roster (with Josh Smith), and they liked Al’s game so much that they let him go as a free agent (sign-and-trade). And as for Brandon Wright, the dude is going to be a career backup if he can’t put on at least 20-25 pounds. Neither Al, nor Wright, have any marketable qualities that Atlanta could use to replace Smith’s homegrown appeal. If Atlanta trades Smith to the Warriors, even at a max level contract, unless they get Biedrins or Monta or Randolph, the fans would riot. Are you willing to give up one of those three players, on top of Al+Wright? That is closer to what it would take to get Atlanta to give up Smith.
Why wouldn't Atlanta do this?
Every article I read about Josh Smith says he doesn’t want to stay in Atlanta even though it’s his home town. No team other than Memphis has the cap space to offer him anything of value and we all know that the Grizzlies have an owner that doesn’t want to spend any money as you can tell from the Pau Gasol trade. So Josh Smith doesn’t have much of a choice. He either takes what the Hawks offer or takes the qualifying offer and bolts for another team as an unrestricted free agent after next season. If he really wants out of Atlanta, he takes the qualifying offer and the Hawks get nothing in return. The best option for Atlanta right now is to work a sign and trade.
Now what do the Warriors have to offer considering that the Hawks would be pretty desperate to get something in return? Everyone knows that Al Harrington is being shopped. He has a pretty large salary coming to him and I don’t think many people will argue that he hasn’t been living up to his paycheck. But there is a good thing about Al’s contract, it expires in the Summer of 2010 which is the same time that LeBron James, Dwanye Wade, Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudamire and other big names become free agents which should make hims somewhat more attractive. I wouldn’t say that Al Harrington is a useless player like many are suggesting. He played out of position most of the year. He was able to guard much larger players effectively and spread the floor on offense. He still had one of the highest 3pt percentages in the league. I wouldn’t blow him off as worthless. In fact, if the Warriors kept him, I would be happy to see him playing for them for another season.
Brandan Wright is no joke either. Yes, he is thin and unproven but he has tons of potential. Why do you think the Warriors traded Jason Richardson for him? There had to be something in Wright that made Mullin pull the trigger to get him in exchange for Richardson. You could argue that Mullin was just trying to clear space so they could make a run at getting Kevin Garnett but he had to think that he was getting something worthwhile in Wright. We also saw flashes of Wright’s ability during the limited playing time that he got under Don Nelson.
To think that Atlanta wouldn’t take a proven forward that can play out of position and shoots well from 3, a young player with lots of potential and possibly a draft pick or two in exchange for a guy that could walk away leaving them with nothing is actually harder to believe then them making this trade. The biggest problem I have with a trade being worked out is that there are going to be other teams that would want Smith and could potentially offer more. If Josh Smith truly wants out of Atlanta he will get out and the best thing the Hawks can do now is work a trade for him and get something instead of nothing.
The diary doesn't mention Brandan Wright.
That’s one of its main problems. Along with, you know, being the 9 millionth GSoM diary on this subject… ;-P

we can dream can't we
lebron + nellie would be AWESOME
hm,
you guys are naive. say a rival gm stumbled upon this site, which does happen by the way. fans know a lot about the players. if harrington is to be traded, we may as well try to get good value for him. and that does not happen with comments like that. now, i understand harrington for smith is a huge stretch in any case. but that’s not the point, you should be talking about his intagibles, his ability to be an effective glue guy, etc. whether true or not. this site has a lot of activity from various sources, believe it or not.
say a rival gm stumbled upon this site,
and say we asked him if he had a spare point guard, and say he said sure I got Chris Paul, and say we said can we trade say Montay for him and say he said why not? That would be cool.

as much as i would love Josh Smith
theres no way we’re gonna sign him….hes gonna get signed by the hawks for the one year deal most likely cuz theres no team out there right now that can afford to sign him now
i got a better idea for jsmith trade
why dont we swap 2nd round picks (like the nugs and clips did) then an autographed franco finn we believe t-shirt, two autographed basketballs one by mully and one by nellie and the kicker of the deal we get Tony.psd to make a pic of lebron in a hawks uniform.
this deal works for both teams cuz the hawks wont have to take on any salaries so they can have cap room in 2010 to sign lebron cuz he wants to play in hot lanta. the autographed shirt and basketballs could be auctioned off and the $$$ would match what jsmith would sign for. the Tony.psd pic is priceless and would be considerd a gift given for future consideration. then we could turn around and trade cj for horford straight up.
it works for us cuz al can shot the 3 and we need more of that and bw is our 3rd best young player and we get to keep him
If that doesn't work
We can counter with:
-a foam finger
-2 orders of garlic fries
-free 1 day parking pass
-some BART tickets
-an old Baron Davis #5 jersey
-Biedrins hair gel
-3rd round pick
Put a little mustard on it

wright and randolph i can understand and maybe even watson but wat about nelson, jamont, morrow, hendrix! i mean really that team looks good but if we want to go anywhere in the playoffs we’ll need a vet! like jannero Pargo or even sam cassel!
