Look who Marcus Williams is compared to!!

http://www.nbadraft.net/admincp/profiles/marcuswilliams.html

I am really feeling this trade. We needed a true point guard there you go. This should definetly get us to the playoffs. I look at the roster we have and we have more depth inside now. So all us Golden State Warrior fans be ready for an exciting NBA season! Now I wonder what Mullin will do with Azubuike now. We will have to just all find out and wait and see.

Let's call our team the Golden State "Potentials"

I place some blame on Lawrence Frank’s system for this guy’s crappy numbers but I have a hard time believing that the Nets organization is so incompetant that they would trade someone that had the potential to be a future “Deron Williams”. We’ll see though, coming to our system the guy will defintley feel like he has a pulse again and maybe he will thrive. Last year he was good for 6 points and 2.5 assists playing 16 min’s a game. With our system I think he could be in a situation to double those numbers. I’ll take 12 pts, and, 5 assists a game from our backup pg. Anyone know about his defensive skillset?

How can you be Gil with ratings at zero for passing and ball handling. Scratch the passing.

by yocballer on Jul 22, 2008 5:02 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

LightzOut!!!!

What you showed us were 2 players rated at 77 and a 3rd at 82, yet not mentioning that Marcus Williams was rated at a very high 93!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Check it out dude! Not many players get a 93 rating.

Just sayin…...

by smearthebeard on Jul 22, 2008 5:42 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

It’s based on body type and skill set. Whether the player puts it all together is a completely different story.

by Nellieball on Jul 22, 2008 6:28 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Well, in Morrison’s case, I think it was based on his complexion and stupid mustache. Bird was bigger and stronger and a much more complete player. It’s easy to think about Bird as some sort of prototype scoring SF, but he averaged 10rpg for his career as well and dished out assists like a point guard. Those skills were evident in college. Morrison never showed the ability to pass or rebound much in college. He was a one dimensional player then, who has become a none-dimensional player.

by jae on Jul 22, 2008 6:37 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Not gonna get an argument outta me: for my money Bird is the best passing forward of all time. But generally that is what the comparisons mean.

Ranked No 2 for paoint guards in

Ha, Those rankings are superseded by the draft . That’s sorta like trying to buy a high flying stock today based on last years analysts estimates. Reality trumps projections.

would still bitch and moan. So your oprnions don;t count to us who read this board and therefore rendered moot!

If we had someone like CP3 I wouldn’t hafta be the voice of reason.Marcus Williams and Montay Ellis are not CP3 yet.

stop spelling monta's name wrong

"It's not my fault your team's so shitty." -Steve Friend, head coach, Chabot College, to Laney College's head coach, who asked why we scored so many runs after we beat Laney 30-3 in 2006

However, in this case his argument is EXTREMELY valid

The hope is have is based on his play in college and the fact that he was stuck behind JKidd and then Devin Harris, two very good PGs. We’ll see.

by Dubs fan in Boston on Jul 23, 2008 6:41 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Sorry but

we weren’t a playoff team before him and by adding him, it doesn’t mean we’re a playoff team now. I still think we’ll be relegated to about 38 wins depending on Maggette’s health, Monta’s progression, and any pending trades/additions/subtractions.

If we match Bookie, resign Tay and Dre, I’m thinking 40 wins is a good number to hit, but still not good enough to make the postseason.

PG: Ellis, Williams, Watson
SG: Jackson, Belinelli
SF: Maggette, Randolph
PF: Harrington, Turiaf, Hendrix
C: Biedrins, Perovic

I really hope Nelly doesn’t rely on Turiaf to backup at the 5 spot. Hopefully we bring someone in…Not exactly looking forward to Perovic being the main man behind Beans.

Yes

We Got A Good PG… I Don’t Want To Hear Any Comparisons But I Like What We Did… Got A Good PG That Can Pass First Guard… So Thats Whats Up And A Decent PG To Have As A Backup…

Our team is deeper than last year

Phoenix, Dallas, Denver, San Antonio are all worse off and older, Houston has a glass jaw and its two best players are very fragile. I can see us being a 7th or 8th seed. This is all debatable but the rest of the west is not getting better.

by smearthebeard on Jul 22, 2008 6:33 PM PDT   0 recs

If Bynum never recovers and Gasol goes down, the Lakers are back to being the .500 team that they’ve been when it’s been Kobe and the Stooges. For all the talk about how he finally “made his teammates better”, they weren’t any better without Gasol or Bynum than they’d been in the previous years.

Now of course if both are healthy, they’re still on top of the west.

Let's not get carried away...

Everyone who is hyping up Marcus Williams to be the next Deron Williams using arbitrary, subjective scouting tools, rankings, and comparisons needs to chill…

But

Everyone who is hating on him when he hasn’t even suited up in orange and blue needs to chill too…

Let’s let the kid play in our system first. Let Marcus be Marcus.

by mondris ellidrins on Jul 22, 2008 6:42 PM PDT   0 recs

And let him be the Marcus Williams who is a point guard. The Marcus Williams who is a SF wouldn’t really be an asset at this point.

by jae on Jul 22, 2008 9:47 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

i think this team can be a playoff contender…...we finally have depth, so monta and jack don’t have to play the whole game every game…...and turiaf is a banger and can grab some boards, which we were missing last year…...the young guys are only going to get better

by Nellieball650 on Jul 22, 2008 7:36 PM PDT   0 recs

I doubt he’ll be the next Deron Williams, he should be a solid PG.

In his junior season at Uconn, he averaged 12.3 points and 8.6 assists. Not a lot of players drop dimes like that in college. Granted he had great players around him like Rudy Gay, Josh Boone, and so on, but that’s still a very respectable number.

He also stepped up his game during tournament time, averaging 20 points and 8.8 assists. Not bad at all.

He may not have much NBA experience, but he was stuck behind Jason Kidd, which might not be a bad thing, assuming he learned from him backing him up. He was never really given a chance to take over the team.

Above all though, as his assist numbers indicate, he should allow Monta to play off guard where he excels, which is probably the most important factor of this trade.

by Rotudo on Jul 22, 2008 7:52 PM PDT   0 recs

Unfortunately some of the recent reviews of him are pretty negative.

We can only hope he has a bit of Deron Williams in him. Really this is what Mullin must have been thinking. I think Mully’s got a hard-on for Utah’s assets and wish he had a Deron, a Boozer, a Kirilenko, and a Milsap…

Marcus -> Deron
Randolph -> Kirilenko
Hendrix—> Milsap
Boozer? Nope don’t have a pseudo-Boozer yet. Is that the role Turiaf is supposed to fill?
