Anyone see this info on Buike?

Was surfing through clipsNation and came across one of their posts concerning Azubuike and it had this to say.

Azubuike opened last season as a starter and had a 33pt/ 8rb game against the clipps and followed a few games later with a 27pt 11rb game against dallas which is good… but he was playing injured the whole season and it just kept getting worse and worse because he never took 2 weeks off the let it heal.

Kelenna got a bone bruise in his ankle in summer league that had not healed by the start of the season. He was playing(and well) but was putting all his weight on his right leg because of his left ankle. He developed tendonitis in his right knee. The big dallas game was really the last time anyone saw a healthy Azubuike. He would have been fine if he sat out 2 weeks and let the right knee heal but he couldn’t for fear of falling out of crazy nellie’s rotation and Nellie wouldn’t sit him out because even though they were having to pump him full of liquid tylenol just to play, he was still better than both Barnes and Pietrus which were the alternatives. He averaged 8.5 pts / 4rbs in 20 minutes/game for 81 games while playing really injured… Imagine what he will do while healthy in 35 mins/game as a starter alongside Baron(who is probably the one who filled the clips in that Kelenna’s numbers were achived while playing injured all season).

This is some really interesting information. I remember watching Azubuike during the first two weeks of the season and all I can say is he was flat out balling. I expected a lot more of those kinds of games but they never seemed to come. Most people attributed his production fall off to the return of Stephen Jackson, but really Buike didn't look like his same explosive self. Anyone remember his dunk on Kaman and putback over Diop?

I know this topic has been debated back and forth already, but knowing this information now, it'd be hard not to sign him for 3 mil/year. At the same time, will he ever get the playing time to show off his potential? Another reason I don't think we should have went out and got Maggette. Why not just commit yourself to the youth movement and let the kids play, including Azubuike? Who really knows what he's truly capable of to this point?

Wow

That was even more suprising than Baron opting out. Kaz played injured the entire season and nobody told us. WTF!!! He could of averaged maybe 12-15 ppg if he didn’t have that injury. The Clips got him for a F#$%ing bargain! Get him back Mully!

i hope we win a championship soon

Will we be able to match it. The clippers are offering him 3 million for four years.

by gsfn58 on Jul 22, 2008 7:41 PM PDT reply actions

my bad it says multiple years.

by gsfn58 on Jul 22, 2008 7:43 PM PDT reply actions

I think the deal is for 3 years/9 mil so around 3 mil each season, which imo is a steal seeing as you already know Buike is a solid role player, but supposedly we haven’t even seen him at his best.

If we could get the production he gave us in the preseason and the first two weeks of a season that would be a steal!

thats how monta got his break

if kaz didnt get hurt we very well could be talking about him being the man and not monta cuz he wouldnt have gotten those minutes. kaz was going to take jriches place.

we can still match and have enough left over for some garlic fries and a beer. but do they bring the him back and allow him to take minutes away from someone that they used the 18th pick on politics sucks. i hope they bring him back you can never have enough good players on your team regardless of if they got drafted or not

by Rach on Jul 22, 2008 7:47 PM PDT reply actions

no

when JRich was dealt it was always gonna be Monta getting the bulk of the minutes. Monta broke out the year before….you know when he got most improved player of the year?

my bad

thats right he took over for monta when he got knocked out by bw in hawaii. thanks sam23

Where's the link to the publication and author?

This looks like some 18 year old Clipper fan posting this rumor. Substantite it or remove it.

dude, if he was injured....

he didnt look injured. he had 2 GREAT games, simple as that. i don’t care how injured you are if you are healthy enough to play 81 games, 21 minutes a game, in the nba you aren’t hurt that bad… did his sore ankle make him miss all those 3’s??? we should move on from kelenna, good d-league pickup for the time we had him, not worth 3mil per…

by Foulacy on Jul 22, 2008 8:32 PM PDT reply actions

Surprised???

This post would make the injury seem more serious than previously reported but it was widely reported (I have mentioned it on this site probably a dozen times) that he was struggling with tendonitis in his knee all year. No surprise here.

i thought

everyone knew he was injured? i remember hearing about him having tendonitis. i never heard about the ankle tho

by AJC3317 on Jul 22, 2008 9:22 PM PDT reply actions

I heard about the ankle... that's what led to the tendonitis

It happened to me in the past… I favored my right ankle once and it placed a boatload of pressure on my left knee. Its all good because we almost have a full team anyways. I wish Buike the best and look forward to Belinelli getting playing time.

fasfa

Hey Buike had alot time to heal because nellie never played him the whole season…I love this player but come on. Give it up…he’s gone

by goldenstatewarriors on Jul 22, 2008 9:41 PM PDT reply actions

We got time to match still. he’s not gone.

I did see this

It worried me, because I like Azubuike. I hope we do re-sign Azubuike.

Marcus Thompson says we will…

http://www.ibabuzz.com/warriors/2008/07/22/m-will-a-warrior/

And it makes sense that we will. We took care of the back-up PG, and we still have money for Buike.

Mully said on Saturday...

“The decision could very easily go down to (Friday). We’re looking at other things in the meantime.” They got the PG they needed and as the article says, with Williams and Turiaf, we’re two deep at each position, so maybe now we bring back Azubuike. That would be a pretty deep team.

Monta/Williams
Jackson/Bellinelli
Maggette/Randolph/Buike
Harrington/Wright/Hendrix
Biedrins/Turiaf

I like it.

we’re two deep at each position?

Monta/Williams
Jackson/Bellinelli
Maggette/Randolph/Buike
Harrington/Wright/Hendrix
Biedrins/Turiaf
Seeing that in print makes KaBuki a must sign. That’s scary, without Kelenna we only have Bellineli and rudolf backing up Montay, Mags, and Jax? Suddenly our depth at bigs looks a whole lot better!

Maurice Evans

We just signed evans, though, so it would be

Monta/’Williams
Jackson/Belinelli/Evans
Maggette/Randolph/Buike
Harrington/Wright
Biedrins/Turiaf/Hendrix

Hopefully we’ll now re-sign KaBuki and dump Bellinelli? Evans is old but he’s a player

ummm...so what

Lots of players play through injuries all season long, is this really news?

by kyzah on Jul 23, 2008 8:36 AM PDT reply actions

Exactly

Its a 82 game season, EVERYONE plays hurt at some point during the season. I love how everyone is upset that we lost Azabussy, Barnes, and Pietrus, did you people even watch the season last year? Our bench was HORRIBLE, it was one of the worse bench’s in the league, Nelly couldnt play them cuz they were so bad. We didnt make the playoffs because of our bench, we had to run our starters into the ground cuz of it. Now Mullin has done another great job of improving our bench and its gonna be a big plus for us. Mullin has added defense, rebounding and depth in response to losing Baron, not to mention a 22 point scorer, Im really glad hes running our team and not some of the posters I read on here.
