ESPN on Anthony Randolph "Best Rookie SF in the Summer League"

For those who still criticize the pick or still don't believe in him. Here's a quote from ESPN's Thorpe:

Anthony Randolph, Warriors
If teams drafted players based solely on upside, Randolph would have been a top-5 pick. He showed more pure talent than anyone, Michael Beasley included, this summer. Played five positions and made every play imaginable on both ends. He has so much to learn about being an NBA player, with much of it relating to off-the-court growth. The best rookie small forward of the summer.

i dont agree

first of all, michael beasley is better.

second, randolph had good numbers but his fouls and turnovers were unacceptable. In a real game he would have been pulled out before he could rack up as many stats. I think he has potential, but not the best right now.

Its the Summer League

His turnover problem really is a problem, but the fouling is more of a product of the summerleague officials. They call fouls for breathing on people.

The article was referring more to his skill-set being broader than Beaseley’s. Surely the versatility in Randolph’s game is quite a nice surprise. Strength, quickness, handles, aggressiveness, courage, and his ability to contribute even when he’s not shooting well.

He didnt' say he was better than Michael Beasley.

He said, that Randolph has more upside and showed more during the summer league, and thats completely true. and everyone makes turnovers. its summer league..

i still don't agree

I think Beasley is better now and is more likely to be better in the future. I still think Randolph will be good, but Mike is more of a sure thing.

thorpe also said

that he had the highest bust potential of any lottery pick. and he didn’t say that on draft day, he said that a couple days before the piece you’re quoting. i think he can be great, but let’s not assume he’s going to win rookie of the year. there are a lot more ‘nba ready’ guys out there. randolph is an investment that starts to pay off in a couple years. he might be productive in limited action this year, but look for him to become a legit player a little later on.

ROY

I agree with you.

right now ROY contenders in my mind are Bayless, Love, Beasley, and maybe Rose and Mayo

Hey...

a little off-topic, but I don’t think it’s worth it’s own post. Anyone else see Thorpe’s chat on ESPN? Someone asked if Wright would get any playing time this year, and his response was something along the lines of, “I hope so, but insiders with the Warriors say Nellie hates him”.

HATES HIM! That was a shock to me. I was really hoping for Wright to make an impact this year (really doubt Beli or Randolph will get any burn), but apparently Nellie really doesn’t like his play. I guess we’ll see.

Yeah I think he will...

again that’s all insiders

insiders with the Warriors say Nellie hates him

talkin’ all that smack and do we really know if it’s true or not? LOL Maybe? Maybe not?

Stop crying about it alright?!?! GO MULLIN.

why would...

someone just start talking smack? Plus, if you know Nellie, he only likes bigs if they can shoot the 3.

Wait wait wait... You know Don Nelson?

Nah JK! I’m just saying that sometimes people exaggerate things and how true is it that Nelson really hates Brandan Wright?

Stop crying about it alright?!?! GO MULLIN.

If that is in fact the truth. There are 29 other teams that would love to trade for him. So all is not lost.

Persoanlly I turst Nellies judegemtn fo talent. Moreso than anyone on this board, so if he thinks Wright sucks,,, I guess he sucks. Trade his skinny butt.

Ahhhhhhh!!!

I trust his judgment as well but that doesn’t mean just trade whoever just because he says so… I think with him it’s more about preference rather than the actual player sucking or not.

Especially since Nelson will be retiring soon and the next coach will have his own “system”

he'll play

i don’t think nellie will bench wright as much. Whether he likes them or not he’s going to give wright and marco more minutes this year to see what happens. Hopefully 15+ each

Point Blank....

Wright needs to just go out there and play!! Fack the haters Brandan!!
