In too deep?

Star-divide

There is one lingering question that is in all of our minds, will the Warriors make a big trade for a big player?  A better question would be, should we?

Sure we may have the pieces to aquire a Josh Smith or Marion (it would likely take AL/Wright/Picks or Belli or Randy, maybe Dre and picks or AL) , but would that not be the same as having Baron and the team we had last year. Big talent, no depth.

My question is should we forgoe the move for a bigger better piece in order to keep the quality depth we have?( I use the word quality litely becaue there are a lot of intangibles that could go into that quality) This seems to be what Mully ad Nellie are trying to accomplish, a young athleic fast team that is deep and talented. They have adressed the main areas that have cost us the last two years through the draft and free agency, and it appears that they will let the youngsters have at it.

So I'm asking, how does everyone feel about it? Should we go all out and acquire another big piece? Whether its at PF or PG, although PF is clearly a bigger deficit. Or shall we just rely on a potentially deep team to get us into the post-season, and can they do it?

Also, does having Evans or Azubuike make us deeper, who's worth the money?

Thoughts?

The Youth Movement

A youth movement in the Warriors franchise should be in full effect. After signing AB and M-8-E (assuming they resign), this franchise should be built around them. There’s so much depth on the roster that Nellie could play “mad scientist” all season. Let the young guns show us what they got. As for the remaining off season transactions, the Dubs should try and get Bookie back and get rid of “Clueless” Al. I was grateful when the W’s traded for him and SJax, but Harrington has been becoming more of a liability. Captain Jack is definitely an upgrade for Dunleavy, but is Harrington really an upgrade for Murphy? Troy could at least rebound. B-Wright/Hendrix/Turiaf/Ant Randy should be a sufficient rotation at the 4. Maggs/SJax/Bookie at 3. And after picking up Williams, the backcourt is ready to rock. Monta/Marco/Marcus/SJax/Bookie/Watson/Morrow? Nellie has the pieces to work his magic…

It depends on what you have to give up

I don’t think the Warriors make a trade unless they feel that adding that big name player will take this team back to the playoffs. They shouldn’t mortgage the future of the team for one playoff run. If they can manage to get an impact player without giving up their young core players, I’m all for it.

we've already got some stars

Monta, and jackson and maybe Biedrins can be stars in this league. they were jus overshadowed by baron

this team is gonna be legit, dont ruin it with a impulsive trade

It's more what they're gonna do than...

what we want. I was like alot of folks, and was looking for a big trade. We could have moved Al for Hinrich or a couple guys for Marion but that meant giving up Andris. We had the chance at Brand and all this is a shot in the dark at what big name we could and how long they could help us. The reality is, Mullin is building our future. He got a young back up PG not an established one. He signed Maggette to teach the young kids how to practice and prepare. He comitted himself to Monte as PG with Williams as a backup or possible substitue if the Monte as point experiment fails. He signed Turiaf and there is talk of an agreement with Monte. When he (or if) locks up Andris, we got a young and talented team. He isn’t gonna move Al for Marion (nor would the Heat do that) especialy becasue Marion wants a long term deal and Mullins is not signing oldies but goodies. Mully is signing potential and talent, then if things go wel we got a great team, if we need a piece there aren’t any other teams in the league that will have the young talent pool we’ll have in 2 years. Plus we have a team that is designed to make good players look great and avereage players look very good. Take Monte for instance, he is very good, I love him and his game is great. But imagine him with Houston or the knicks or any other team outside of us or PHX. He would never get those #’s and we will have all kinds of guys that will have carrer stats, that other teams will look at and say wow!! but won’t translate as well to their system and we can get quality for those guys. I am not saying GM’s are stupid, but #’s get you accolades that gets you signed or traded for. Mully is not trying to make the playoffs, he is trying to win a title and that starts 4 years before you get there. you got 2 options when you are building a franchise to win a title. You can start young, use free agency to your advantage and then make plays for guys through trade or FA or you wait for Tim Duncan to land in your lap in the Lottery. We aren’t gonna suck bad enough for that to happen and even if we did, the odds are bad. We don’t have a team name like the Lakers or Knicks or Bulls to pull a free agent the caliber of Shaq or Duncan or James. So we do what we can with what we got, and let the young guns play!!!

The problem is you gotta make the playoffs before you can win a title. 2 years ago we were on track to win it all 2 years later(this coming season) Now you say 4 years from now! So in 2 years will we start over again?
I still think Mullin has a psychological block against fielding a winning team. Maybe he wants to maintain his place as one of the better past players? Seems like any time we get a star or developing star he trades him before he can build Mullin like numbers with the club.

The Celtics didn't make the playoffs

Yes, in order to win a title, you have to be in the playoffs. But there’s no rule against coming from outside and winning the next year.

2 years ago, we were lucky to make the playoffs, we had a bloated roster, and lots of dead cap space. What do we have now? A little dead cap space, a ton of talented young guys (2 of whom have already panned out well, 3+ of whom are still too young to have panned out), and some good pieces. We are actually capable now of keeping our talent, and looking forward we can acquire more once Foyle comes off the books. We’ll see, but we won’t be “rebuilding” in two years unless Monta or Beans get in motorcycle accidents AND all of our young guys turn into crap.

i assume this rant is once again about the j-rich trade

we all loved the guy, we did, but settle down a little, man. we had an abundance of swingmen on that team, and j-rich was a little overpaid. shipping him off gave us room to play monta, a talented young big who can run the floor and will help the team a lot soon, and got some cap space too. now, let’s make one thing very clear: if the j-rich trade had not happened, the golden state warriors would not, i repeat, WOULD NOT, be on the verge of a title this year. even if they kept baron as well, the answer is the same. you are overvaluing the quality of a team that every warriors fan cared deeply about. be real, no ticker tape parade was rolling through oakland next june with j-rich and baron around.

Or if Mullin gets scared that they might actually succeed and blows it up again?

just stop

please, if success is a 7 or 8 seed last year (not a certainty with the lineup we have) and worse off this year. then yeah, i guess mullin blew up a team that would have succeeded.

hope colangelo loses half his brain cells

trade tmnt, jax, b-wright for bosh and maybe take in a not-so-great contract to do it, then you resign kelenna or sign jr smith and in a few years we are contenders w/ starting 5 of monta, buike/smith, randolph/magette, bosh, beans.

How is this going to be accomplished before Friday Noon?

How are we going to ever sign JR Smith? Let’s just hope for LBJ.

Can't he's not coming over here... we'd need to have a better supporting cast imo...

and I don’t think were ready to take him in anyways… just look at how Brand and Arenas just blew us off even though we had the best offers… money can’t buy everything… BOO HOO

Stop crying about it alright?!?! GO MULLIN.
