Warriors Sign Monta Ellis
According to Marcus Thompson from the Contra Costa Times, the warriors have signed monta ellis to a 6 year 66 million dollar contract.
"The Warriors’ signaled their end to the free agent period by locking up their own guy. Monta Ellis inked a six-year deal today worth $66 million according to an NBA insider."
This is fantastic news for the warriors considering they got him at a very reasonable price IMO.

Kind of disrespectful to Jackson and Harrington no?
I realize the promo is about the future, but I’d be ticked if I were those two. You put Buke up on the front page and not Jackson? Especially since the audio mentions Jackson pumping up the crowd,

I don't know if anyone else remembers or notices but I'm
aware that your inside info usually pans out so why don’t you let the rest of us in on it because you’ve dropped like 3 ambiguous hints in this thread . . . So out with it!!!
Otherwise I’m starting a rumor that Jackson is replacing Nelson as head coach and that CJ Watson is going to replace Franco Finn.

bloodsweatndonuts. First year in a while the boys can actually move some bodies in and out of the organization…They are having FUN…maybe to much. Not sure it’s over yet. Really all I can say…you know that.
However the thought of Franco Finn in shorts – disgusting! Captain Jack as coach…He did a lot of that last year – while Nellie just stood there (remember CJ blog).

Andris isn't signed yet so that's not really analogous
My point was that Jackson was a captain and “supposedly” the heart and soul of the team and people were even talking about him for league MVP (which is absurd).
I would think he would be at least second in command on this team if not the veteran leader and returning captain. So If I saw semi-nobodies Turiaf and Williams and returning bench guy Buke on the front page, I might be annoyed.

WANT TO SEE ELLIS AT 15 POINTS A GAME INSTEAD!!
i know everyone wants ellis to score 20 along with mag and jackson but i would rather see monta score just 15 and get 10 assist per game. it’ll be so nice if he morphs into a chris paul type of player as the season goes on but with a more explosive offensive game. he got the tools to do it. he’ll be more similar to isiah than paul if he gets those assist over 10

the fact that he hasn’t had a press conference or whatnot to introduce him means they’re still using the photoshopped picture—which they took the mirror image making the warriors jersey backwards. this bothers me haha.
if maggette has been formally introduced, i’m assuming he had some photo ops. why does his pic on the front page his photoshopped one and not have his jersey number on it?

Here's why
We expect the fan posts to be of good quality. Here’s what that person wrote:
http://www.mercurynews.com/breakingnews/ci_9987389Looks like he is getting a lot of interest from Russian teams. Thoughs?
Hopefully not true. Can he cancel his contract and go to Europe even if he is restricted?
75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75
Is it really that hard to write 75 words about Biedrins possibly leaving for Europe? No, didn’t think so.
Now you’ll understand why this fan post, http://www.goldenstateofmind.com/2008/7/24/578775/biedrins-back-to-europe, was left up there instead of the one you are referring to.

and the post
Meanwhile, a source close to Biedrins said the fifth-year center is being pursued heavily by European teams.
The Latvia native is drawing strong interest in a couple of Russian clubs, according to the source, who added that teams are willing to sign him for three to five years for what amounts to more than $10 million per year.
This would be the best news for Biedrins’ in months. The only team with salary cap space that was reportedly interested in him, other than the Warriors, was Philadelphia. But the 76ers spent their cap money on Elton Brand. So leverage of a fat offer from overseas is Biedrins’ best hope of getting the money he wants from the Warriors, or anywhere in the NBA.
Biedrins’ camp, which was rumored to have its sight set on the ballpark of Chris
Kaman’s contract (five years, $55 million), likely won’t be elated about the offer they’re likely going to get from the Warriors. It would be surprising if Biedrins’ offer even equaled Corey Maggette’s average of $10 million a year. A six-year, $48 million offer may be what Golden State presents Biedrins.

This one has a little more info
http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=437999
It says Biedrins and his agent haven’t initiated any talks with any European teams, but 3 teams have inquired as to his availability. His agent basically says Europe is something that wouldn’t be hard to do if he doesn’t get the contract he wants. His agent says:
“We have had good meetings with Golden State, but we want to keep open all opportunities for him. He is in a good position. It would be no problem for him to play in Europe.”
So it sounds like it’s just a thought at this point. If they’ve had good meetings with Golden State, I’m not too worried. And Mully all but said the deals were done. He said he didn’t want to call anything done until they were signed, but he was pretty sure they’d both sign long term deals.

From what I gather, the Warriors are starting Monta at 11mil this season. That’s a good move since they can afford to do it as it means his contract will stay the same more or less while the cap and tax can reasonably be expected to increase. I guess the total $66mil (or 67 depending on the reports) was enough. It’s also good for him as money in your own bank account now is worth more than the same dollars down the road.
This leaves the Warriors with about 11mil under the tax threshold for Biedrins. What’s he asking for? What will he get? A deal similar in size could start at 8.7 million and progress upwards at the max allowable raise. Or the could do what they did with Monta and front load it (presumably leaving a tiny bit of space under the tax for the rookie min player should they need to grab one or two as the season progresses, or some pad space in case a trade brings back a touch more cash). In any event, the money is there. The front office has done a reasonable job of keeping it together such that they can pay their guys a salary that should keep them around without paying the tax for what will still be a borderline playoff team.
I’d really, really hate to see Biedrins go. Though some seem to think that his dunks and putbacks are easy and anyone could get them and seem to think that his rebounds were “padded”, I strongly believe that his play substantially adds to our win total. We won’t be nearly as competitive a team without him.

I think you're right
That gives us more room for Andris in year one. I think reports said we’d probably have about $20 mill this year between Monta and Biedrins, so we should have room even if it starts at about $10.

From what I read (and this is quite a bit of hearsay and rumor) it isn’t built with the standard raises. If you’re keeping your own FA and don’t need to worry about the cap and giving less than the max, it’s a good way to do it, better than the escalating ones because it means that provided the cap goes up (usually, but not always the case) the player will take up less of it each year.
This almost never happens with another player’s free agent though. When you’re trying to lure someone away into your camp, you’re limited by the cap space in the year you sign him, so unless the player is real nice and doesn’t want much money, it’s more difficult to front load since that year 1 has to fit under the cap. I believe, but do not know, that this is what they did with Maggs.
Now it appears that we also frontloaded Turiaf’s deal, in part to make it more difficult for the Lakers to match, but also because we had the space and it wasn’t a very big contract.

That’s what I saw at ESPN’s web page, where they’re saying it’s a $67mil deal. They said explicitly that the 08-09 salary is $11mil.
target=”new”>http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3504378
I often wonder how these figures get out. Whenever a contract is signed, the Warriors official release always says “by team policy, terms were not released” but almost invariably, the figures get out there.
I certainly hope that it’s $11 to start and stays level, though it’s not the end of the world if it’s the standard increasing scale (in which case, it starts at about $8.72mil).

He’s shown to be a bonafide bench player. Knowing Nellie, he will probably be playing the same kinda minutes as he did last season when he came up from the D-league. They need depth at PG still since Williams is still not proven. I think Kosta is more of a question mark than Watson.
