Warriors Sign Anthony Morrow

Announcers in the Rocky Mountain Review just said that late yesterday the Warriors announced that they were signing Anthony Morrow.  That's the first I've heard of that anywhere.  Anyone else seen anything?

He's been shooting lights out, and he's reputed to be a good defender too.  Maybe he'll turn out to be a nice replacement for Air France.

From the games I saw in Vegas (went out for 3 of them) he looked solid.

Assuming it's true, another nice move from Mully!

UPDATE:

Since confirmed (below).  A-MO is a Warrior!

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

i dont think that is a good idea

mostly because those trades mean 1 good player for 2 worse players. those kind of trades are generally reserved to teams in the rebuilding process. even if the dubz do suck this year, we’ll have plenty of players to “work on”, and would only be on the “1 player” end of a 2-for-1 trade, because of all our youngsters.

by Run Dubz on Jul 26, 2008 12:22 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

His “spot” is still open effectively. It’s a non-guaranteed contract. He can be waived at any time should a better player come along. It’s good for Morrow in that he gets his per-diem while he’s in camp and he’s got health insurance if he gets hurt (league rules basically insure his salary in case of injury). But it’s not even close to a real spot on the roster at this point. It’s a pittance from the Warriors in return for taking him off the market for other teams.

this is a great signing but...

what do we do now? we hav so many players. is kosta going back home? hendrix to the d-league?

by MeTaLLiCs0naTaS on Jul 25, 2008 1:13 PM PDT   0 recs

As I see it..

We have 15, which is fine. 3 inactives each game.

by Eggman on Jul 25, 2008 1:22 PM PDT   0 recs

Way to go

I was thinking its only a matter of time. I mean, Chris Mullin, what was he when he played? A shooter. And they can smell their own kind.

this guy was 16-19 from the 3 point line. Thats impressive for free throws, these are 3’s.

We shoot 3 pointers like we’re rich.

Put a little mustard on it

If Beli can’t produce and is inconsitent with the three ball look for A-MO for some playing time.

Wow, this move makes me ridiculously happy

First off, 16-19 from three? And 27-39 total? That is no joke. You can never have enough shooters, and if he can play D as has been said about him, then he won’t be a liability. Now, I completely understand that barring major injuries, he’s riding the bench for any game that we don’t have a 30 point lead in the fourth quarter in. Still, I like these signings giving unknown rookies the last spots on the roster rather than some proven (that they suck) veterans like Troy Hudson. Neither is going to play meaningful minutes anyway so might as well get someone with the potential to move into the rotation than a surefire benchwarmer.

And seriously, 27-39 is NO JOKE. It tells me that if he can get his confidence level in the NBA to where it is in this summer league, then we could have a Kyle Korver/Jason Kapono type guy here.

I like how the summer moves are ending on positive notes (Marcus Williams trade, Azubuike signing, Monta signing, Morrow signing, ?Biedrins signing?).

Good move Mullin.

Much more importantly than that, he was signed to a contract Friday by the Warriors.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, including how much - if any - guaranteed money is involved.

NOT guaranteed contract...

Rookie shooting guard Anthony Morrow signed a non-guaranteed contract with the Warriors on Friday. The sharpshooter out of Georgia Tech finished three summer leagues (Orlando, Las Vegas and Utah) shooting 27-of-39 (69.2 percent) from 3-point range.

At the bottom…

by streetballer on Jul 26, 2008 8:50 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

So basically, it was a deal to keep him from showing up at anyone else’s training camp. He’ll get the min salary until cut, qualifies for a per-diem, and if he gets hurt, he’s covered by the team’s insurance policy. Zero guarantee that he ever suits up in a regular season game.

by jae on Jul 26, 2008 10:52 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Yep

But congratulations to him for earning that cool half a mil this summer.

by YaHeard on Jul 26, 2008 12:03 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

perfect move

for the warriors, because like you said, zero liability. and i’m sure morrow won’t complain, since he’s making some cool cash and given a legitimate shot at making the NBA. you can’t ask for more than that, as an undrafted player.

if he shows any sort of determination, drive and grit, he will make the team for sure, i think. the dubz already know what he can do and that he can fit into the system. barring some other signing, i think a roster spot is his to lose.

nice pickup

A Mo is a steal. Welcome to the Dubs homey.

My eyes are getting worse and worse. I had to read that twice to figure out whether you were calling him “homey”, “honey” or “horney”. :-)

A-Mo

I am happy with the signing of A-Mo and i believe he has good potential (plus he’s only 22). He has shown that he is an excellent shooter and I hope that he can contribute from the bench this season. Not only is he good from downtown but he is an excellent free-throw shooter and that will help our team.

‘For all of you Warriors’ fans who are terrified of the free throw line on this team, Morrow is a tremendous free throw shooter. He rarely misses from the line.

Morrow, in addition, presents the Warriors with a new lethal shooter. In the Rocky Mountain Revue Summer league, Morrow shot, lights out, 16-of-19 from beyond the arc (74 percent). He also averaged 18.6 points in six games, which includes both the Las Vegas and Rocky Mountain Revue summer leagues.’
