Okafor Reaches 6 Year Deal With The Bobcats...

a lot of you guys were talking about how we might wanna get okafor. well, it doesn't look like that's happening now. According to ESPN, Okafor has reached a 6 year, $72 Million deal. That's crazy. More than Monta and Biedrins. I know he's a Double Double guy, but come on. lol what you guys think about this?

here's some links

Awesome!

How about we trade up for Ricky Davis?

it makes me continue to wonder why owners think ex-players would make good GMs/VPs

you don’t see this rationale as prevalent in football and baseball. i mean the lions tried it and they’ve been crippled by Matt Millen… but yeah, the Giants should totally replace Sabean w/ Barry Bonds.

not that these guys who come from the scouting ranks are all that much better, just they are more qualified to be GMs/VPs than guys who used to play.

another absurd phenomenon, once once team overpays, every other team ends up suffering.

it must really make a huge difference revenue wise to be a 30-35 win team instead of a 20-25 win team and have the highly popular Okafor jerseys to sell. at least $12 million.

okafor

i bought an okafor jersey when he was a rookie thinking he was gonna be a superstar in the league. i wore the jersey one day and someone asked me if he was still in the nba. i’m like damn yeah you really don’t hear his name at all anymore. he is definitely being overpaid. bad move jordan.

Biedrins > Okafor

Okafor signing for $72 million makes the Warriors signing Biedrins for $63 million look like a pretty good deal. Former Warrior, Rod Higgins might be on the hot seat if Okafor doesn’t play like a $12m/year kind of guy. I hope there are incentives in his contract to make it $72 million and it isn’t all guaranteed money similar to what Andrew Bogut got.

Man

that’s a whole lot of money, and we got a steal in Biedrins. And by the way, we are paying Biedrins 53 million. It COULD go up to 63 mil with incentives, but not likely. Good job Mully!

even better

I didn’t know that the $63m included incentives. Warriors got a super deal.

Beware of salary numbers put out by agents

Since most teams do not reveal the numbers, the agents do, the pariah of all sports. I have never been a big Okafor fan, and if some other team wants to pay him that much, so much the better, just another team approaching the ceiling of their cap. I worry more about teams that have tons of cap room.

talent

yea commenting on a blog vs. playing NBA ball? not only does commenting require talent that few have but is of much higher value to society! everyone could play in the NBA geez…

Not to mention it's BASKETBALL!

It’s not like it’s a real job that they are getting millions. If the Warriors want to sign me for the league minimum, I would happily practice my butt off each day and sit at the end of the bench for the entire 48 minutes during games. Heck, I would do it for free. It’d be like getting free season tickets. I bet 99.999% of Warriors fans would do the same.

So Bobcats paid 10 million more for 4 pts/1 reb per game in more minutes?

I never understood all the hype for Okafor or Warrior fans wanting to trade/sign him.

He’s like Biedrins but injury prone and doesn’t have as much upside due to age (26 vs 22) and athleticism (Andris is much quicker and explosive – he loses on strength but he is 4 years younger).

I’m too lazy to post the stats but roughly Okafor and Biedrins have the same production and Biedrins had less minutes per game.

+1

Biedrins is underated because he does not weight 260 pounds.

I’d pick Emeka over Andris any day. Defense is key to a squads strength and Andris lacks in it badly. Most Non-Warrior fans would agree. Still love Andris though.

I like Okafor a lot

He’s a little less long and less athletic than AB, but he’s stronger and a bit more of an interior “presence,” on both O and D. Less efficient from the floor, better at taking it to the rim and drawing fouls. Less quick feet, better at holding his position and blocking shots.

Both are likeable and hardworking, both good-looking, possibly slight edge to Emeka in that department since he doesn’t have to enhance his good looks with hair product. Both have funny names that are frequently misspelled on GSoM.

On balance, roughly equal players, but I give AB the edge because (1) he’s four years younger (as you point out), and more importantly, (2) unlike Okafor, he’s shown no signs of being injury prone.

So yeah, overall, AB at 6/$54 seems like a much, much better deal than Okafor at 6/$72. Props to Mullin.

Sign ^^^^ !!

Biedrins is better.

But Okafor would be great if his team got a real center so that he could get to his real position of Power Forward. Where he would be one of the top players in that position.

You know Andris was supposed to be a PF too right?
