08-09 Rookie class rankings Randolph #21? no respect

What #21? among rookies!@#   Oden , Rudy Fernandez & Marc Gasol are listed versus other rooks since they didn't play.

This was their analysis on AR "If teams drafted players based solely on upside, Randolph would have been a top 5 pick. He showed more pure talent than anyone, Michael Beasley included, this summer. Played five positions and made every play imaginable on both ends. He has so much to learn about being an NBA player, with much of it relating to off-the-court growth. The best rookie small forward of the summer. Big-time talent who has lots of players in front of him. He should destroy the D-League if he stays focused. "

AR avg 21ppg 8rebs in SL!

EFF +17http://www.nba.com/summerleague2008/players/index.jsp?player=anthony_randolph

Based on what we've seen he definitely should be ahead of #20 Darrell Arthur, 18 Roy Hibbert, 16 R Lopez, 13 Donte Greene, 11 Courtney Lee?, 8 Gallinari, not sure about Gasol & Fernandez.  Anthony Randolph should be ranked as in top 10-15!!

Probably even at this point with B Lopez, Westbrook, Augustin, J Thompson, & Brandon Rush. If they re did draft today, I can see AR be a top 5 pick!!

Randolph #21? no respect

As anyone who plays fantasy ball knows rankings are a moving average of what he’s done in the past plus what he’s doing now. One month doesn’t make much difference in the overall picture compared to one year of past college ball and other factors. Chill and if he’s real he’ll advance in the rankings. By the end of the 2009-2010 season we’ll know a lot more.

well

my boi will probably be a 1st or 2nd team all rookie team by the end of the season. It depend if how much mins he gets.

yeah

i wouldnt worry to much about it. joe alexander is ranked 23 and i think hes way to good to be top 20. yeah we will see after this season where randolph is gunna be at, and i think its going to be alil higher in the rookie rankings than number 21.

It's Thorpe

I trust the guy a great deal, and I know that his rankings are in terms of projected rookie production. Considering Nellie’s history with rookies, I’d say his take is pretty spot-on.

As a side note, Summer League production means nothing in terms of being a predictor. I’m hoping it transfers as much as anyone, but remember to temper expectations.

Randolph looked good in a summer league where raw athletic ability will shine, where he’s going to overmatch most of the competition and where there’s not going to be that much structure to the game. He didn’t shoot particularly well for a guy his size which was the same problem he had at LSU and was one of the reasons he was considered a ‘High upside project” rather than a can’t miss guy. His summer league play hasn’t changed anything about him. He could be very, very good, but nothing has made this look like a sure bet.

The best thing about him since draft is that the stories about him and the comments he’s made make me think that he’s got a good head on his shoulders, that he’s a good guy and he honestly wants to be a productive player.

Mmmmm....

“High, long, upside, potential project” Sounds like an NBA draft pick to me! I’m sure they’ll bump him up to #5 before training camp and then back down to #20 in November after he gets no PT in the real games.

look at it as.....

the list if Rookie of the Year candidates.
If that is the case, he is where he probably should be at this point. Most of the guys ahead of him, although less raw talent, will play more minutes, and thus, more than likely produce more.
Like someone said, on upside, he is a top 5 pick. But for now, he is down the line for newbies that will contribute immediately.

But, we can see, the sky is the limit for this young stud.

this is a few days old i think

but yeah its a joke, especially after ESPN praised him numerous times for tearing up the summer league. we get no love

if memory serves

thorpe said something about expected playing time being a factor in his rankings on one of his chats… i’m not an espn insider and can’t find the transcription on any forums so you’ll have to take my word on it.

SL is a horrible indicator. it’s probably better than d-league since at least there are some NBA players (albeit young ones). anyway, i posted this somewhere before, but, fyi, Nikoloz Tskitishvili once averaged 25.7 ppg:

www.nba.com/summerleague2008/history.html

the following yr (‘05), Skita (his nickname) supposedly once again blew up in SL on the T-wolves SL team, prompting McHale to offer him a guaranteed contract. this became known as pulling a Skita>

by the way here’s what T-wolves fans thought back in ‘05:

Randolph...

played well in summer league, was impressive, but shot horribly. He has huge upside but also has huge bust potential. I think everyone is jumping on the Randolph bandwagon a little too soon. I hope he becomes an all-star, but that day will be some day far off in the future and there is the chance that it will never happen.

if anything ...

i hope ANT.RAN scoped that out cause it’ll make him hungrier! I’d rather be an underdog anyway – just to prove critics wrong.
