As much as I’d love to be optimistic about this year, I’m a warriors fan and being let down is always the case. I think Portland this year, we won’t get into the stacked western conference. And I sure as hell don’t think that our defense will be getting any better.

WARRIORS BASKETBALL!!! Patiently waiting for a title...I may be waiting for a long time...

wishfull thinking,

But it will still be fun to watch the games

Wouldn't u guys include

that we r better defensively also? i mean our defense still sucks but having jax guard the SG (not the SF) and maggette guarding the SF is an improvement….NO? signing turiaf has to improve it also. when biedsrins was on the bench, who replaced him defensively?

on that note…A B C D E…...and F Z Y

LETS GO WARRIORS!

SO WHAT! I DON’T CARE! :-P

The Warriors are many things

But better defensively is not one of them. Corey is a terrible defender.

That said, the shooting % should go up (even despite the lack of Baron). The bench will be faster, the starters will be slower (Baron is faster than Maggs).

As for playoff bound, I see it as a four team race for the last two slots with Dallas, the Clippers, the Blazers, and the Dubs in the mix.

Our individual defense...

is not the best, but team wise, we slightly improved from last years.

by Spee-D on Jul 29, 2008 3:07 PM PDT up reply actions

Shooting %

I think you mean our shooting % will go up without Baron not the lack of.

Baron’s percentages and total number of shots last year were horrendous. A point guard should not out-shoot his teammates. He shot more than 300 2pt – shots than any other player and more than 25 3pt -shots than any other player. No successful point guard does that. WE WILL DEFINITELY SHOOT BETTER WITH BARON!!!

Corey’s a bad defender, but his presence allows us to match up with opponents better: Monta covers the PG, Jack covers the best swingman, Corey covers the other swingman. Baron’s probably a better defender than Corey (though Baron STANK for stretches last year), but I think the positional shifts should make up for that. I doubt we’ll be worse defensively, and I think we could be a decent bit better. Involves a lot of projection, though, so we’ll see.

As for playoff bound, I see it as a four team race for the last two slots with Dallas, the Clippers, the Blazers, and the Dubs in the mix.

That sounds exactly right to me. And I wouldn’t say it’s an absolute slam-dunk that any of those teams are better than us. Dallas may still be better, but they are graying. The Clips may be better, but they fit together oddly. I’m pretty convinced the Blazers are better, but they’re putting a number of new pieces out there, and they haven’t won yet… it’s possible that they’ll take another year to gel. This season may, again, come down to the wire for us.

Although the Nuggets have basically screwed themselves over I don’t think the wills of AI and Melo should be denied. They did will that team past the Warriors last year.
I also think the Spurs will not be a top three team. They lucked into the three spot last season after struggling to get there for over a month.
Houston also lucked out with that winning streak, don’t expect to see them put together another 55 win season.
The gap will widen between the powerhouse teams and the mid-level, yet playoff-bound, teams in the West.

We'll be a little worse...

...still no Baron Davis.. and you can’t just easily replace his stats, intangibles and what not. my guess, we don’t hit a single game-winning shot this season, and we lose a bunch of games by 3pts or less. We’ll have a top 10 pick again next year. I’m ready to place bets.

screw cohan, screw mullin, screw baron

Way to stay positive! Haha. I think we have a shot at playoffs, NO, LA, and Utah seem to be locks for a while, I think that this is PHX final shot before they start trading nash and amare(by the way, we should for sure go after him in 2010 or trade in 09) Spurs and Houston will make it, and with artest Houston may have a slight chance at squeezing into a top 3 slot. That leaves the final 2 between the Warriors, Nuggets, Mavs, and Blazers. Lets go warriors!

According to the comminsioner of the nfl, 104 people retired last year. 7 due to age, and the rest because of Patrick Willis

Another great post...

Wow it is very early, but great to talk about. I think the Warriors will be in rebuilding mode. Not really in finding pieces, but building up that team chemistry. I do not doubt they will be successful if you look at the short time they came together during the playoff run. It is important to establish a team leader and that go to guy in the fourth quarter.

by Spree15 on Jul 29, 2008 7:21 PM PDT reply actions

Hey!

I agree with you.

Though once the season, injuries will set in. If Yao or T-Mac go down, Houston might drop (no 22 game streaks this year), if Nash, Shaq, and Hill show their age, they’ll struggle. The Blazers could go either way, and the Mavs will not suck as much as GSW fans think they will. It’ll be a crapshoot. Likely, we’ll end up with 40+ wins and miss out again.

Harder (maybe), Better, Faster, Stronger

We should be pretty determined after the disappointment of last year, and I’m predicting not only will we make the playoffs, but we’ll end up in the 6th or (dare I say it?!?) 5th seed. San Antonio’s going down in the West this year. The big teams to worry about are L.A., New Orleans, and Portland (who might officially be our new rivals; it looks like they might even have their own Monta in Jerryd Bayless). Utah’s still a threat, but not quite as big of one as they were before.

team chemistry

is going to play a big factor for us, seeing that we dont have a lot.
