Maggette's mind frame

It seems some of us are concerned with Maggette's wanting it factor. Some say he's a black hole on offense. Some say he might be too selfish to buy into the team concept. This made me think..........

Alot of us die hard fans got to see his interview after he signed the contract and what his feelings are about coming to GS. Something that stook out in my mind was him saying this is Monta's team, or something to that effect. This makes me think that when Mully was telling him about what role he would be used in, he told Maggette strait up what he expects from him. Maggette later mentions that Mullin did talk to him about what role he wants him to play in the locker room. He's well aware that signing that lucrative deal with the dubs binds him to playing a veteran leadership role on the team. I think Magette will show us a different game next year. He finally got his deal that sets him for life, he gets to stay in Cali, hes not expected to be the MAN on our team, he gets a fresh start, he gets a new coach...... I dont think were gonna see much BLACK HOLE offense from him next year. I actually think it will be better because now his role isn't the scorer, its more to make the right play. On the Clippers the right play was to shoot every time because your team sucks, thus playing the Carmello Anthony role of never passing and shooting everytime the ball gets to you.

I just think these are the things on his mind, and I think our expectations of him should be just that. This is what he said to the fans, and he knows hes accountable to our franchise to play the role we want him to play. I think well seem a more more TEAM focused Maggette next year.

Man.... you know you're addicted to the Warriors when you're creating posts about Corey Maggette at 1 AM

it's great to be a Warriors fan

It’s really nice to see so many passionate Warriors fans both old and new. Yeah, there might be some noobs who make a stupid post now and again, but just the fact that they are so intense with their opinions is cool. Check out the other NBA blog sites and you will see that there are rarely any comments or interaction. Golden State of Mind is truly a community and I feel lucky to be a part of it. Go Warriors!!!

good thinking

it would really be great to have maggette score around 20 ppg for us while contributing to the team in a different way he did with the clips. the fact that he said the team was monta’s and not his shows that he has matured a lot and this looks pretty good for the team chemistry next year. imagine if monta, jack, and maggette scored 20 ppg each. that would be awesome.

nellie will help maggette SOOOO MUCH

maggette will flourish with us and avg 20ppg again. plus he’s someone we can go to when we are stale mated and can’t find a bucket. so instead of jax dribbling off his foot we can go to maggestic!

Hopefully Maggette changes for the better

I remember when we made that big trade with Indiana, a lot of us thought that we would have to take on Stephen Jackson in order to get Al Harrington; it turns out that Captain Jack ended up being the main gem of the trade. This can be the same with Corey, people might doubt him at first, but hopefully he turns out to be a big surprise for us… better than what we expect.

+1

Some people around here are being way too harsh on a guy who scored 22points on 14shots. Show me another player in the NBA who scores as efficiently.

black hole no more

he will still probably pound the ball a little bit too much in the beginning of the season, but as he learns to play with the team he should be ok. our offense is pretty much all about running and getting the ball the open man so he will realize that on this team he will have many more options than on the clippers in the past. he was pretty much the only option on last season’s clipper team.

I hope he doesn't change too much...

I agree, he’s gotta adjust his role, but the way I look at it, he is a black whole, and it’s definitely worked for him.

Being a 20+ ppg guy, we know he can score, but last year, too many times, the Warriors fell into offensive lulls, if Baron wasn’t on, or Monta wasn’t on, no one else on the team could really create for themselves without a set play run for them. After Baron’s departure, Mags brings that aspect back.

Your post is all fine and dandy but the reality is we didn’t get CM to pass the ball, rebound or play defense. We got him to score and to pound the ball inside, since other than Monta we don’t have anybody who likes to take the ball to the paint, hence jacking up a ton of 3’s last year at a pretty mediocre clip. He’s not going to suddenly change over night and start to rebound and pass to become a complete player. Chances are that more often then not when he gets the ball everyone else will be froze out, just like in LA, which sucks because we probably aren’t going to be a better team with him this year and we could have used our cap space to sign better players in the future. I think his numbers were a bit inflated because it’s by default someone had to be the leading scorer on a horrendous Clippers team last year and CM was the obvoius player to step into that role, the only plus I see him bringing to the Warriors is getting to the FT line and making his FT’s but 10 mil a year is a hefty price to pay for someone with his skill set.

Stephen Jackson catches on the wing and faces up against Vujacic. When Jax looks down and sees Vujacic, his eyes light up. He pulls out his nine, screams "Thug Life" and empties the clip, then drives in for a basically uncontested layup.

Well...

Don’t forget about Azubuike. I think he likes to go in the paint, too. It always seemed like he would have a good game where him and Monta would be driving to the paint, then the next game he’d always be standing around the 3-point line waiting to throw one up (which I actually think might have been Nelson’s doing, those guys couldn’t have honestly just liked to throw three’s up like that). And the way I see it, we might as well have gotten Maggette. I mean, the price was a little steep, but for some reason it seems like good big men just don’t want to come here, and we’ve got more guards/small forwards then we know what to do with. I think this squad is going to shock everybody this year. I hope at least. :^)
