Deng agrees to stay with the Bulls
Luol Deng seems to have a big fat contract waiting for him from the Chicago Bulls.
The deal is said to be 6 years with incentives pushing it up to $80 million. This is yet another possible signing that makes the Warriors signing of Monta and Andris look like even better deals. Most analysts predicted that if Luol Deng took the qualifying offer he would eventually land in Portland. Good thing for Warriors fans. The Blazers look too good right now as it is. No need for another Western Conference team to get better.

Where do you think this leaves Ben Gordon?

geez
wow monta at 6yrs/66 is such a deal compared to 6yrs/80 for deng. i think monta is a much better player. deng is pretty much just a midrange jump shooter though i guess he is a decent rebounder for his size.
i guess the okafor and deng deals can silence the “mullin overpaid” as outline many places like such:

ps—pcon of KNBR just mentioned he frequents GSOM

No chance the bulls will sign gordon
Just means its more likely gordon is taking off for Europe. Sign and Trade is not very likely in all honesty… and don’t start posting that you think Gordon should come to the W’s. Would make no sense… I would say he is on his way across waters

maybe im being a fanboy but
even despite the figures really, i like az with the team we got right now rather than getting deng. we got our starter swingman sjack with az at the 6 playin the same skill set as deng
dengs a nice warrior kinda player tho anyway, but id rather have our solid core

uhh
If anything, the Ellis’ and Biedrins’ contracts set the bar really high in the market. There’s no way Deng would get Monta Ellis money because he actually plays defense too.

At that price, he’d better, because he doesn’t seem great at anything else. He shot the ball quite well two years ago, but just decently well this season… he’s not a particularly skilled rebounder for his size, not a particularly good passer. Good free-throw shooting, but doesn’t get there that often. He’s a capable offensive player… Monta’s a far better one.

the bulls are a mess!!!
i can’t believe after all that drama they are forking over EIGHTY MIL for this guy? talk about a mistake… i can’t believe even one person voted no in the poll, probably hit it on accident… the guy averages 17/6/2 monta averaged 20/5/4 plus monta had 1.5stls per. the bulls better pray derrick rose is half the player he was drafted as.

hm
I guess, if we’re going to be thinking that way, then a guy like Kevin Martin is worth way more than some loser like Josh Howard. Just look at the stats!
Kevin Martin: 24 / 5 / 2
Josh Howard: 20 / 7 / 2
See Kevin Martin’s clearly the better player, he scores more. QED.
If some idiot from Sacramento made this claim, I’d assume he’s a straight homer and knows nothing about the game of the basketball. Let’s not become like this, GSoM.

The best way of ranking players.
I agree that you can’t just take scoring as the only factor. I think efficiency ratings tend to be a much better barometer of what a player can and has contributed to a team because they measure the players positive stats – negative stats on a per minute basis. I personally like John Hollinger’s PER (player efficiency rating) over the one that you find on NBA.com but both are pretty good.
If you look at Hollinger’s PER, you will find a few Warriors/former Warriors in the top 50.
31. Baron Davis
34. Corey Maggette
36. Andris Biedrins
39. Monta Ellis
Other notable names:
21. Kevin Martin
37. Josh Smith
47. Jason Richardson
49. Josh Howard
73. Luol Deng

PER
PER is a pretty cool stat, and probably one of the better ones for the sake of comparison as it combines all the quantifiable stuff into one nice little, clean-looking number.
But it still fails to accurately merit half of what basketball is all about: defense. Yeah, that little unimportant thing that wins championships in this league.

I'm not just basing it on stats
but deng is soooo average. 80 MILLION?! are u kidding me. also josh howard is a loser. and assists and steals are VASTLY more valuable than rebounds… especially when deng only averages ONE more rebound than a GUARD hahaha!

it sounds like
you are just basing it on stats.
And the deal is 71mil guaranteed, 9mil of incentives.

PER and +.-
PER doesn’t really reflect defense and hustle plays but if you factor in the +,- of a player as well you are going to get the best possible statistical measure of a players impact on a game. Stats aren’t the best way to judge a players worth but if you are going to use stats alone, PER and +,- seem to be the best in my estimation.

It's 80 million with incentives....
The base contract is 71 million over 6 years, a pretty fair deal for a SF who can average 18/8, play defense, works hard, and is the kind of player who fits into a PG-dominated team the Bulls would want to have. Considering he’s getting paid a million more annually more than Ellis or Biedrins, I don’t think it’s too bad.
I was a multiple time all star throughout my little league career. Won 5 championships- 4 in a row- thats more in a row than MJ… (kenwo4life@aol.com)
