Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Marcus Williams may START at PG

There's a serious chance this guy might make it into the starting rotation alongside Monta Ellis ... the 23-year old backcourt!  That'd be something.  At first I was skeptical, but after reading on Williams and watching his interview:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eU7TfPcQy80

I am warmin up to the guy!  I guess I like the fact that he looked up to BD growing up in LA, has gotten permission from him to wear the #5 and is still going to talk to him to get tips on playing the point for the Dubs.  Also helps that he's friends with Jack and Al too.  I think the college theft incident and limited playing time in NJ kinda held this guy back, I've watched his youtube's and he's a PURE POINTGUARD no doubt.   This could be his last chance to make a first impression!

Oakland, CA, where you can revive your career baby!

Check out this article that triggered my thoughts on Williams:

I'm pumped for our new squad now!  Let's do this!

Unlikely

This would mean Jack Mags or Al would be taken out of the starting lineup. Williams is most likely to in and out of quarters when Monta rotates to the 2 and Mags or Jack takes a breather. Neither Jack or Mags would be content with the sixth position considering one is the veteran leader and the other is getting PAID to earn his money.

Or, knowing Nellie, Maggette or Jackson might slide down into the 4 spot. You never know what could happen.

i agree. i think our projected starting lineup will be: Ellis, Maggette, Jack, Harrington, and Beans. MAYBE if williams stays consistent and steps up, he may work himself into the starting lineup for some games, and al would be coming off as the 6th man..but i dont think he will make the starting rotation permanently…atleast not this year

PS

are you a clippers fan? Baronsclipps?????

by gorillas on Jul 31, 2008 12:42 AM PDT up reply actions

really though?

would a clipps fan write a post about a warriors backup player? lol… its just a name i chose to honor my favorite player and what he did for our team that no one else could do for almost 2 decades… get us into the playoffs.

Yeah, this kid could really be the key for us this year. Monta, Mags, Turiaf. They know what to do. But as far as I’m concerned, this kid has a legitimate chance to not only get some playing time, but help fill the void. A pure point with good court vision and a self described “high ball IQ” is just what we need, man.

I don't understand...

why everyone says he’s a pure point and has high ball IQ. I mean, just look at his stats? He shoots way too much, doesn’t pass the ball, and has a horrible FG%.

They read it somewhere on the internet!

I haven't...

I’ve read that he had potential out of college but there’s a good reason he dropped so low in the draft.

I just pray to God everyday this was Nellies Idea. I remember when Nellie say something in a scrawny kid lost in the shuffle in Phoenix and brought him to Dallas. Steve Nash. Not saying Marcus is anywhere near that, but the point is that Don knows a NBA point guard from a mile away.

Please let acquiring Williams have been Don looking at some tape and seeing something. Please, Please, Please.

yeah. this kid got “permission” to wear #5.
just like everyone needs permission to wear #23.
ugh

hey if I signed up for an evening rec league at the gym by mu house, even I would contact baron (probably through his yardbarker) and ask for permission for #5! lol… its what you do when you idolize someone, all about respectman.

good post

I would LOVE to see Marcus start at the PG. He’s got the look, and has shown flashes of having great court vision which is exactly what we need. The only problem is a backcourt of Marcus/Monta would be small, and would not be a good defensive backcourt. I really do want to see Monta at the 2, cause that’s where he belongs even though he looks like a point. If I were Nellie, I would tinker with a bunch of different combinations. We have depth, it’s just that we have a different kind of star in Monta Ellis.

Haha, He’s one of those little dwarf stars that can’t defend against the super novas of the NBA galaxy.
Yeah, start Marcus Williams at point ,he’s the next Chris Paul or lacking that the next DeRonWilliams. I’m stoked on the upcoming season, I can’t wait to see all our rookies get lots and lots of minutes.Who needs that poo poo head #5 BaronDavis anyway? GSWarriors fur evur!!

Woah there...

Don’t need to be talking about dwarf stars here. This is a warriors community, not for learning.

Obviously not, I tell them the answers and they still don’t get it.

I have a feeling

that the season will start with a PG by committee, depending on the matchups. If Williams starts at the point, Captain Jack will have to play the 4. There’s no way Nellie will make him the 6th man. This will be the quick small ball lineup. To make it even quicker, put Harrington at C, which was the Dubs starting lineup against Phoenix. If Monta starts at the point, Harrington or B-Wright will be the PF and the pace would be slower, since Ellis is out of position. Of course CJ would be the backup for both of them and there’s talk of Marco handling the point here and there.

The ideal starting lineup IMO would be: Williams/Ellis/Maggette/Jackson/Biedrins
Having our star player feel comfortable is key, and M-8-E is most comfortable at the 2. We wouldn’t see Monta streaking down the court with his “One Man Fast Break” if he were the point guard. He would be standing near the sideline waiting for the outlet pass.

ideal starting lineup

hopefully nobody misses a shot and the other team cant shoot cuz you only have1 person who can grab a rebound. last i checked beans didnt average 20 boards a game. with a line up like that we are destined to have the same problems with the same out come as last year. we get hammerd on the boards get behind by 15 and if we cant hit the 3 to catch up then game over by half time

by Rach on Aug 1, 2008 7:56 AM PDT up reply actions

totally true

but the aquisition of Turiaf and signing Hendrix should minimize the rebounding deficiancies. I believe that this lineup can be the most effective to start a game (set the tone). It would be a track meet from the tip off. If the Dubs struggle, Nellie has plenty of pieces to play with to make adjustments.
