SFGATE: "Golden State has reached out to forward Corey Maggette, another Clippers free agent, according to two league sources. The Warriors are one of the few teams who can offer Maggette more than the mid-level exception, which is expected to be around $5.6 million when the new cap figures are released.
The rest of the NBA's free agent crop is headlined by 76ers forward Andre Iguodala and Hawks forward Josh Smith, though the Warriors are not believed to be courting either restricted free agent at the moment."

Mercury: "Whether or not the Warriors can pry Elton Brand away from the Los Angeles Clippers, they might not be done attempting to extract talent from Hollywood's second team. A source close to free-agent small forward Corey Maggette said Thursday that the Warriors have expressed interest in Maggette and are looking to start negotiations.
The Warriors don't publicly comment on negotiations.
Like Brand, Maggette exercised the early termination option on his contract before the June 30 deadline, forgoing the $7 million he was due. The buzz among NBA insiders is that Brand - by all accounts a class act - will honor his word and remain with the Clippers."

What can I say? I love the idea of going after Corey Maggette... back in 2004- early 2008. I can't say I see the point of adding and most likely overpaying for Maggette on the free agent market when this team doesn't have Baron Davis or even Jason Richardson for that matter. This team needs passers and top tier scoring options right now, not 2nd or 3rd option scorers.

I agree with you whole heartedly!

Please don’t overpay to get Maggette here!!! I would probably like to see the Warriors offer somewhere in the vicinity of 3 yrs, $21 mil (right around Jackson’s deal), but definately nothing more than that. His offensive skill set requires a lot of one on one stagnant basketball. His ability of getting to the free throw line is astonishing, but nothing to marvel at, especially without a dominant player. Now I definitely feel as though Monta is very close to being that dominant player who’s jersey I would sport with pride, but him and Maggette in the backcourt just doesn’t scream “WIN” to me.

oh hella naw

if we get Maggette, it’s going to be a horrorable. We don’t need another scoring swingman period. Hell, please get iggy please. I don’t think Josh Smith really like passing the ball that much. New AI know how to passes the ball decent enough.

Yea NEGATIVITY!!!!!

Way to find the most negative thing in every situation Atma. Its GRRRREEAATTT!!! Are you really a Dubs fan or just a cry baby pretending to be one. (Atma sobs, Whimper) With the way you think regarding the Clipps, I would think you were a fan. Go back to LA LA Land cause we in The Bay are positive individuals, unlike closet Clipper fans like yourself!

Gotta get Maggette

I think it would be a great FA signing to grab Maggette, and yes I would even overpay a little bit. Even if we can get him for $8-10M per year, it would be a steal. Maggette gives almost the exact same production as JRich. He is not as good of a shooter, but is actually a better scorer. Only Dwight Howard, LeBron James, and Allen Iverson had more FT attempts per game…now thats impressive!

Then you can throw $6-7M per year at Josh Childress (who I think would fluorish in Nellie’s system), and grab a veteran PG (Anthony Carter?) for the bi-annual, and I think you have a very solid team.

Face it, this team was going to be hard pressed to make the playoffs next year anyway, but with a core of Ellis/Maggette/Jackson/Childress/Harrington/Wright/Biedrins you have lots of skill and versatility for Nellie to work with.

Essentially you’re swapping out Baron Davis, Mickael Pietrus, and Matt Barnes for Corey Maggette, Josh Childress and Brandan Wright. And I think that’s an upgrade.
