Baron deserves better
than what's happening right now if Brand does end up in Philly. Say what you want about greed, but Baron gave his heart and body to GS and the Bay Area. In a perfect world, he'd have been playing for GS at a reasonable amount of money, but I would have been one of those fans who would have rooted for Baron and Brand to make a run deep in the playoffs. Too bad, Baron is gonna play out his career with that Clipper team, it's a waste of a talented player.

Baron-haters are weak
Diddy gave us fans more to cheer about than any other single player, coach, executive from the Warriors organization. He didn’t quit on us. You haters quit on him. Its disgraceful. I recognize greatness on the basketball court and Baron played at such a high level, especially last season, exhibited great leadership, he single-handedly made Cohan more money than anyone else associated with the Warriors. He deserved a 5 year deal worth $65M, hell yeah.

yes, yes, yes, and no
I agree with all but the last sentence. Better to let someone go a year or two early than have them hinder the team for four or five years.
He does deserve better – I am really shocked by Brand’s move. he makes Baron look super classy in comparison. Brand demanded the owners nab Baron and they did – making this team much better. He also likely talked Baron into this to some degree. Do you think all along he was thinking of going east? The clippers fans probably feel worse than we did when we lost baron.
I thought Brand had a rep as a great guy – this really tarnishes his rep.

Et tu, Brandé?
The epic tragedy that threatens Baron’s career may be that he will never again sniff the post season due to the back-stab by Brand. I concede that Baron may be more interested in Movie-making than playing basketball anymore. Hey I luvz the showbiz too. That may be the source of conflict that arose between Nelson and Davis at the tail end of the regular season, but he probably felt he deserved the time off after busting ass with no real help all season. Ultimately, Mulson failed him and he bolted to LA. The contract is really not that bad a killer considering Maggette’s deal. (or even Billups’ deal). I think the huge impact of this deal was that if the Dubs don’t take care of a player like BDiddy, that they just don’t take care of their own. Maybe, Diddy released Brand to take the sixers deal but NOT the warriors deal. Didn’t he just leave 8 mill on the table to go East? Can you believe the haul that Minny got for their 2d rounder and a $2.8 M trade exception? Mulson looks like they got played, big time.

Wait up here...
Let’s see why Baron left. He left to accept a deal that would help secure his future given that it was for 5 years. Though we don’t know for sure, he may have received more money from the Warriors, but at less years. So in this point, we need to give him a break.
But there’s the other side of the deal in which he felt that he was going to form a dream team forming up with Elton Brand in LA. This just goes to show that he didn’t feel there was enough talent here to win. Here, haters are correct in their arguments.
So…should we feel for Baron and let him be? Personally, I am in the middle. I truly feel that we should try to talk to Baron again in an attempt to resign him, but at a lower rate. But who knows what happens tomorrow when free agency starts. The Clippers may get either Iggy or Josh Smith making them a potential playoff team with Baron on board. But honestly, we know that Baron fits in much better here, now with Maggette.
What do you guys think?

No, as baron said himself, we gave him the strength to find the willpower to play so hard for us for the 3 1/2 seasons he was here. I’m pretty sure the Warrior fans that cheered him on and bought his merchandise deserved at the very least the truth about his original intentions

he gave his heart and his body?
JRich gave his heart and body. 2yrs ago BD gave everthing. last yr he didnt give everything. the last half of the season was a joke. i’m not a BD hater but 2yrs ago bd busted his tail and got us to the PO’s. he was easy 1 of the top 5 players in the nba. this past year we were talking about him being one of the top 5 pg’s hugh drop off. the last half of this year where was he. he paced during games played d when he wanted to and differed to bench players on o. you could say he was trying to get others involved but great players know when to take over a game and he didnt do that. dont forget his bday party where he had to be benched cuz he wasnt up to snuff. same time 2 yrs ago his bday wasnt an issue. like i said i’m not a BD hater i’m just dissapointed cuz he was are best player but he didnt put out the same effort he did in the past and the team suffered for it.

Thank you
my sentiments exactly. When I read the BD bashing now turned gloating type comments, I reel the same way I do when I watch the Jazz fans boo Derek Fisher (and I’m not even a fan of Derek Fisher!).
Last season, BD played all 82 games and averaged slightly more minutes played per game than Kobe Bryant. There are no guarantees in this game, reinjury happens, and the best you can do is look at a player’s recent performance trends. The predictions of BD’s body falling apart in two years seem to me to be, at best, exaggerated. And if you’re going to compare Baron’s 07-08 season against his 06-07 season, realize that we traded a seasoned veteran that Nellie had no qualms about playing with a rookie that sat more than he played. The starters played more and burned out. When they did have an opportunity to get a nice rest during the All Star Game break, they had to go to Nellie’s mini camp to indoctrinate Chris Webber back into the team which was nothing but a big distraction and waste of time. Funny how those details always seem to be missed when there’s talk about BD’s sucky 2nd half of the season.
If the Warriors were so gun shy to offer BD anything longer than a two-year deal knowing he wanted longer, why didn’t they work out a compromise with a lower paying long-term deal with performance incentives built in (you earn $_ more if you play over 60 games, $_ more if you play over 70 games, $_ more if you play all 82 games, $_ more if we make the playoffs). That’s always an option when you’ve got reinjury concerns. It wasn’t about the $$$ for BD, it was about the length of the contract. When he opted out of his last year, he created the perfect situation for the Warriors to work out a longer-term deal like this for him, but in typical knee-jerk Mullin reaction style, they turn around and offer Gilbert Arenas a $100 million deal knowing he won’t take it, but c’mon, it does have a nice way of saying “we’ll show you BD, how dare you opt out from us!”, doesn’t it??
If the Warriors are going to “rebuild” then they need to first start the rebuilding in the front office.

great point about fisher
i’ll boo dampier every time, but others don’t deserve it. without fisher, the jazz don’t advance past the warriors, that simple. he left money on the table, that’s a favor to the jazz, right?
diddy is so misunderstood, the hornets fans are on his case for life too. he didn’t have to fundraise for katrina victims, but his beef was with his coach not the fans. and that beef cost him the all star game. unforgiveable putting roy and west ahead of him.

The ones on here bashing
BD for dogging it the 2nd half of the season need to realize some of their own criticisms of Baron.
EVERY Dubz fan knows that Baron is an old 29. Yet in order to try to get into the playoffs, he needed to play 40+ minutes a night practically in all 82 games. Frankly, everyone here knows that 40+ a night is WAY too much for him yet he continued to do it night in night out for the sake of the team. 48 wins is the result and I believe that if Baron played 30 minutes a night of instead, the Dubz would not have won 40.
Had he only averaged 30 mins per game, his 30 minutes might be more productive, but the Dubz would still be down because when he was not on the floor, it got messy. Kind of like how rebounding and interior help defense becomes non-existent when Beans sits. So all you Beans haters out there should watch the game closer too.
