Whatever we do, TRADE OUR DRAFT PICK

I think history has proven that this current administration is bad at drafting: Fat Ike, POS.

Coupled with an overabundance of developing players, along with the real need for a PG, and the greater possibility of acquiring someone good by adding our draft pick...

And also since management has decided NOT to be a rebuilding, developing team and has put in some effort to win...

Hence, I think it's time to commit to the present and forego the future, and to do so by trading away our no.1 for 2009.

What do you guys think.

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

the most probable trade we are making right now...

is al harrington for a backup pg. there is absolutely no reason to give away a draft pick with this. hey, what if we draft someone good next year?

Don't trade Al. Save his expiring contract in 2009/10 for next year...

I’m going to keep saying it on the offhand chance that someone from the W’s management actually reads this. Expiring contracts in 2009/10 will be gold. WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR and get real value for him. NO FIRE SALE.

al harrington plus a first rounder

is overpaying for hinrich. but i say we do it… since draft picks mean substantially less for us, unless of course you wanna fill the roster with skinny lefties

i wouldn't commit

to trading the pick or not, until the warriors hear some proposals. if we could get a legit player for the pick, sure, if not, why bother? i don’t think we’ll get anything worthwhile for the pick until next year. it is clearly not a “whatever we do” situation.

fine

what i mean is “whatever we do, add the draft pick as a sweetener to get a better deal”

because our drafts have sucked and will keep sucking, and we have too many projects as is.

only if its protected

next year’s draft doesnt look like its gonna be as deep as this year’s (a lot can change in a year though) but it does look like it could be deep at PG. Big PG’s too. If Monta proves he needs to be in a scoring role, and we somehow get lucky in the lottery we may really regret not having a pick.

even if there are lot of pgs

i seriously doubt our franchise will get the right one for our team, especially in the mid lottery slot which we can expect to be in (unless we make the playoffs).

How about

first rounder for randy foye!

Are you on crack? Trade draft picks? That’s basically a player you can get without giving anything up. Unless you’re getting someone really good why trade a pick that might be in the lottery.

We were in the lottery this year and we picked 14th. I would trade the pick for a piece that fits. The W’s have enough “potential”. They need to surround that with some known quantities, even if it is a role player or an 8th man.

by barrance on Jul 9, 2008 11:08 PM PDT reply actions

You can never have too much talent. If we can get Mike Conley for our 1st rounder than I’d do it. The guy has the “potential” theres the word again, to be a top PG. However, this whole post’s premise is to trade our draft pick because we some of our picks haven’t panned out. That happens to every team in every sport. That shouldn’t deter you from drafting though.

Yeah I agree

You never know what’s going to happen on draft day. Like Rudy Gay slipping down to #8 in 2006. Besides a cheap young player with potential is almost always worth more than the draft pick, so you are really selling low when you deal draft picks.

A Time For Heroes,
It's not right for young lungs to be coughing up blood
And it's all
It's all in my hands
And its all up the walls
Well the stale chips were up and the hopes stakes were down
Until Kp came into Town!

no, the premise of this post

is that we have enough projects as is and need a developed player. In any scenario, adding a draft pick will only make the trade easier. thus, if harrington can get us gordon and harrington plus a 1st rounder can get us hinrich, then go for the trade that includes the draft pick so we can get a better player.

the way this team is designed is to compete for the playoffs, which means we will always be in the mid-lotteries. even when we’re in the high lotteries, it’s no gaurantee we’ll get a good player. it’s time to stop developing projects, just for one year, and get someone to fill our gaping hole at point.

"I think history has proven that this current administration is bad at drafting: Fat Ike, POS."

So the first line of this post was not the premise? Still, just because we have a lot of young talent doesn’t mean we shouldn’t get more. It’s only one or two per year and they come cheap. Look at Portland they have more young talent than they know what to do with and they drafted and traded for more. Trading our draft picks is just not smart player personnel wise or financially responsible. Unless, of course we get Conley =)

the first line doesnt always equate to a premise

just like the first sentence of a paragraph doesnt always have to be a topic sentence.

lots of young talent is one thing… but accumulating lots of redundant, BAD or LATE DEVELOPING talent is terrible. we’re drafting like the detroit lions, one wide receiver after another, and it’s time to just fukit and get someone quality to fill our 1 hole.

and you’re a flipflopper =P

J-Rich, Biedrins, Ellis, Arenas

And debatably: Pietrus

Still up in air: Wright, Belinelli, Randolph, Hendrix

They haven’t all been bad. And say what you want about Dunleaby, he netted us Jackson and Harrington.
