NBA Players that could play football?

What Nba players do you think could play football and likewise what football players do you think could play basketball?

I think Maggette and J-Rich could play Tight End because of thier size. Forgot where I read it from but I read that Jason went crazy with his weight lifting and arrived to camp at 240 and looked more like a football Tight End instead of a NBA Shooting Guard. Maggette has a football physique he looks like he plays football and I'm sure he could. Jim Barnett often say Baron could be a good Running back but i think Barons knees will force him to retire early?

Why post this? Bored, not a lot of active post on GSoM lately

On a side note

Does anyone have Madden 09 or NCAA 09 (Football)? Just wondering because NBA2k8 is "starting" to get boring...

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Bron's a beast

He did play football in HS and was good at virtually every position. With his build i think he could play:

football – all positions
baseball – all positions
tennis
swimming
track n field – all events
vollyball
he’d prolly tear up badminton as well. hahaha

i think healthy baron could play running back, obviously matt barnes could play reciever, same with lebron james, allen iverson could have made a scrappy corner….matt harpring linebacker, monta could play reciever no doubt.

Playoffs!!??

by PAWarrior on Aug 12, 2008 1:38 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Barnes was considered a better prospect in football than basketball coming out of college. I’m not sure why he decided against football in college, though it appears to have worked out for him. He’s not as fast as most NFL receivers, but he could be one of those tall-target guys who outleaps puny D-backs with regularity.

by jae on Aug 12, 2008 3:26 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Iverson was a rather highly regarded QB in HS. He led his HS team to the Virginia St. championships. NOt sure if he was much of a downfield passer or strictly an option/running QB.

umm...where did i say Monta as a RB?

if you look closely, I typed “Monta – WR”

then again, him at RB, why the hell not?!?!? If Nellie’s the coach, I wouldn’t be surprised seeing him lined up as a DE.

I just got Madden 09...

I will say outta the past 7 or so Maddens I was actually excited about this one…

because:

1) They finally filled the sidelines with busy looking folks!

2) The tackle system… just cause you hit a fool doesn’t mean they’re gonna fall this time around LOL!

I’m sure there are some crappy bugs about it and I’ll figure that out as soon as I play it more… if any case, Madden 09 was a gift card purchase put 2 good use!

by Tony.psd on Aug 12, 2008 2:00 PM PDT   0 recs

same here Tony

all the did the past few years was update the rosters and never changed shiznit. i actually boycotted madden because of that and would play ncaa or espn football from 2004-2006 lol. can’t wait to get my reserved copy after work!

by J2daZ on Aug 12, 2008 2:31 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

LOL...

I bought mine at Best Buy… they tried 2 sell me everything that was known 2 Madden… Took like 5 mintes to ring me up…

“Would you like to buy a Madden strategy guide? Controller? Backpack? PSP? Collectors edition? where is your rewards points card? Would you like to finance Madden with a Best Buy Visa card?

I’m so stoked I wanna tackle somebody at work!

Madden 07 on the PS2 to me was the ish but when i played it on the 360 i was disappointed haven’t bought a madden game since. but since you said its good i guess that justifies the 65 dollars i will be spending.

Not sure?

Just rent it first! I pointed out just 2 small things I’m stoked about but at the same time, those lil’ things hyped me into buying it. I will agree- the PSP maddens were off the chain, simple and fun… play it when you’re in a dentist’s waiting room or even better- Jury duty!

Tractor Traylor

Enough said

Playoffs!!??

by PAWarrior on Aug 12, 2008 2:14 PM PDT   0 recs

Here's my team

OT – Emeka Okafor, Elton Brand , Brendan Haywood
OG – Adonal Foyle, Craig Smith, Glen Davis
C – Robert Traylor, Kendrick Perkins
Bunch of big bodied guys who don’t mind banging against others and doing the dirty work. Got the more agile guys at the Tackle spots and more uncoordinated in the middle spots.

TE – Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony
FB – Matt Harpring, Udonis Haslem
RB – Baron Davis, Tony Parker
WR – Monta Ellis, Tayshaun Prince
WR – Kobe Bryant, Vince Carter
QB – Allen Iverson, Jason Kidd
Lebron would dominate at the TE position. Too fast, too strong, and too big to be guarded by LBs or Corners. If you’ve seen Harpring play, you know he’s a scrapper and a football player in a basketball players body. He’s a FB because you can just tell he wants to hit someone. Davis and Parker are the opposites in the running game (power vs. speed). Monta (speed), Kobe (Hands/clutch), Carter (Athletic), Prince (Freak/long) is perfect at the WR. Iverson was sick in HS as a QB and J-Kidd would still have his great vision.

DE – Tyson Chandler, Dwight Howard, Amare Stoudemire
DT – Shaq O’Neal, Ben Wallace, Carlos Boozer
OLB – Matt Barnes, Maurice Evans
MLB – Ron Artest, Reggie Evans
OLB – Corey Maggette, Andre Iguodala
CB – Nate Robinson, Rajon Rondo
CB – Chris Paul, Devin Harris
SS – Shawn Marion, Tyrus Thomas
FS – Raja Bell, Shane Battier
Imagine QB’s trying to throw over Chandler, Howard, Shaq and Wallace. Got the athletic guys on the ends to rush the QB, and the bigger slower guys in the middle to take up space. Got the all-nba buff squad at the linebacker spots led by the NBA version of Ray Lewis in Ron Artest. Nate Robinson was a CB at Wash St. as well so he’s a natural fit. Paul, Rondo and Harris are all speedy pests who would be able to hang with any WR. Marion and Tyrus there to lay the wood across the middle and Bell and Battier to roam.

K/P – Steve Nash
Obvious choice because of his soccer skills.

Sincerely,

Guy with too much time on his hands…

Dave Winfield=probably THE best athlete of all time. (an argument could be made for Bo or Deion, but if you look at Bo’s stats he wasnt ALL that impressive in either sport) But the guy gets no love. Seriously though, Yao Ming, field goal blocker extraordinaire.

And LeBron James could probably play whatever position he wanted. I’m not sure what position but Dwight Howard would be dominant as well.

by belilaugh on Aug 12, 2008 6:21 PM PDT   0 recs

Almost all

NBA players would be too skinny. Oline and Dline would suck cause they would be too tall and get pushed around due to their high centers of gravity. Defensive back and running back would be lacking cause NBA has few short thick guys. Plus why would they play in the NFL, get paid way more in NBA and its all guaranteed lol.

by acpc2203 on Aug 12, 2008 10:28 PM PDT   0 recs

basically all these athletic swingmen

who are like 6-6 to 6-8 would be bomb recievers. monta would be an insane running back. I think its a tough call on who would make a good running back tho because we don’t have 40 times to compare. the athletic points most likely would be good DBs or maybe runningbacks. some points who are like 6-3 and what not would probably actually be really good recievers.

hahaha can you imagine someone like josh smith or something playing football. Quite possibly has decent wide reciever speed at like 6-9, coordinated and major hops lol.

by Agent Zero on Aug 13, 2008 12:31 AM PDT   0 recs

John Taylor

I do recall hearing that the former 49er WR was also an excellent basketball player (not to say he could play in the NBA, though).

Most of the NBA players here (except for some that could play WR), are too skinny and too tall for football: height, is generally not your friend in football, as it raises the center of gravity.

by Rach on Aug 14, 2008 10:22 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I always thought Stephon Marbury hah the lower center of gravity of a running back.

I agree with the comments above about too many guys being too tall. If I recall, the tallest NFL player ever was an OT named Milton Hardaway who was 6’9" and a total bust for the Chargers in the late 70s.

There might be some good receivers/tight ends (think Gates, Gonzalez and Charmicheal-type guys), but I don’t see guys 6’6" and taller having the right body types to play skill positions.

Zooperstars, they quack me up!

by Goofus on Aug 15, 2008 2:38 PM PDT   0 recs

Jonathan Ogden, a player who most certainly didn’t suck, was listed at 6-9 as well. I don’t know if that’s equivalent to an NBA 6-9 (which is almost always an inflated, often rounded up “in shoes” height") or if that’s really the distance from the bottom of his feet to the top of his head, but I don’t think anyone worried about him being “too tall”. Ogden carried about 340 lbs on his frame, so he’s Shaqlike in terms of total body mass. His replacement, Jared Gaither, is also listed at 6-9 and 350lbs.

Ed “Too Tall” Jones was also listed at 6-9 and was about 270lbs during his playing days and brief boxing career.

by jae on Aug 15, 2008 3:05 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Ogden

is a beast. NFL execs seem to favor tall tackles more and more for their long reach.

A few notes

Lebron would be a great TE or even a DE if he gained 10-15 pounds. Kobe would be an amazing WR. Monta would be a 3rd string WR who comes in for the deep ball and returns kicks and punts. Baron is a great build for a hard htting free saftey. A few other things, no player in the nba could play RB. You have to be under 6’0, and other than freaks like reggie bush and other little backs, most are atleast 200+. I could see nba players playing WR, TE, CB, FS, SS,MLB,OLB, and DE. DTs are normally under 6’4, and I don’t know of too many guys who are 6’3, 300 in the nba. Maybe Shaq could be an offensive tackle but that’s a push. You just can’t tell who can play QB, it’s difficult to analyze that on physical talent.

According to the comminsioner of the nfl, 104 people retired last year. 7 due to age, and the rest because of Patrick Willis

by montasmob69 on Aug 16, 2008 9:09 PM PDT   0 recs

Brandon Jacobs

is Proving you dont have to be short to be a RB. Baron has a similar build, good vision, and good speed. Dont see why you dont think he’d be pretty damn good.

#1 pick from NBA to the NFL ...
