Some Random Notes ..
- It seems like the major question I've been getting from e-mails and the like are really simple things like whether Kosta will still be on the team or if the non-guarantees will make it through camp (Watson, Morrow). For the past few days, I've been getting that e-mail a lot, so let's talk about it.
For Kosta, I can understand why many would want to see him gone. The dude is sort of just taking up a roster spot at this point. With two years left on his deal at such a small amount, it's tough to say what will happen to him because he can basically find a crack and live there and no one will really care or notice, I guess. I have heard that he's been working on his conditioning and he might be able to develop into a productive player - the guy can shoot (but does he do anything else?). This is the kind of situation where I think you just surf the contract until it hits the sand. I don't see much movement here and don't think that's going to change, but it's one of the things that's so far on the back burner that I'm not sure it'll be addressed anytime soon.
I think Watson is a lock to make the team, to be honest. He's done everything the Warriors have asked from him and has steadily gotten better. He still isn't a "point guard" per say, but I think his talent is just too much to let walk. Morrow is going to have to show he can be instant offense against NBA boys at camp. I wouldn't say he's a lock, but he has a chance. Slim, but he's got a chance nonetheless.
- Some of you who had e-mailed me shouldn't have been surprised about the whole Stephen Jackson thing that has come up recently. Before he broke his silence, many of us who cover the team were wondering what his thoughts were and I don't have much to add. MT2 has done a great job covering this, even going down to Port Arthur to talk to Jack. What I can add, though, is this: Jack has two years left on his deal but the only reason he can get an extension now is because of a weird clause in the CBA that allows for six- or seven-year deals that were signed prior to July 2005 to be extended four years after they were signed. Jack signed his deal in July of 2004 - it was a six-year, $38-million (bargain in today's standard), making him eligible for an extension despite having two years left. It's just a weird thing I wanted to share.
- I caught up with Brandan Wright recently and wanted to talk to him about where he was at in his training and what the team sees for him. He's a really honest kid that keeps things simple, but from the looks of it, he's looking to carve his niche as a team player before he pushes for playing time or star treatment. Can't blame a guy for that and every team does need someone that can do those things on the court. You can read more of my brief conversation with him here:
http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=9849
- In that article, you'll see a blurb on Rob Kurz, who was one of the summer league guys that played in both Utah and Vegas. He got an invitation to camp and has an outside shot at making the team, sort of like Pat Burke or Austin Croshere. There's no space for him as things stand right now, but there is a possibility nonetheless that he impresses in camp. He's a really smart young man and clearly understands the game, so I'm sure he'll get a deal somewhere - if not in the NBA, Europe will take him in a heartbeat.
- Lastly, I thought you guys would like to check out this piece we did at HOOPSWORLD called "Warriors .. From Four Corners" .. we got four of our writers from around the country to give their take on the Warriors and it's interesting to see how much geography can affect your perspective. I'm the last one of the four, but the other three are cool reads as well. I think you'll enjoy it.

Pree... solid post
But… Morrow was give a contract already. My source… the Golden State Warriors own website: http://www.nba.com/warriors/fanzone/2008_summer_league_blog.html#PR072508
"If all of yesterday’s news wasn’t enough for you, the Warriors have signed Summer League standout Anthony Morrow to a contract.
A 6’5" guard from Georgia Tech, Morrow has averaged 18.6 points in six Summer League games with the Warriors (Las Vegas and Utah).
Additionally, he has converted 16-of-19 3-pointers for Golden State this summer and 27-of-39 3-pointers overall (.692) if you include his stint in the Orlando Summer League two weeks ago (with the Miami Heat).
Morrow and the Warriors are playing their final game of the summer as we speak, and fans can watch the game live online "
No deals were given, but it’s safe to assume it’s around the league mininum. Hoopshype.com has Morrows salary list at 442,000 with a team option for 730,000 in 09-10. http://hoopshype.com/salaries/golden_state.htm
But as far as I know Kosta Perovic has a contract as well, however CJ Watson does not have a contract. I believe the thought is that Perovic might return to Europe or Russia to play next season, but hasn’t signed with any of those teams (perhaps because he’s still undercontract thus the Warriors would be entitled to compensasion). That said, all three could be cut if necessary without killing the Warriors salary wise.

It's a non-guaranteed deal
Yea, he signed a contract, but I believe the contract is not guaranteed for the year. They can waive him with no penalty for doing so.

Pree, watch out
If you post stuff with BaronsClipps and argue with him, he’s known to write SB Nation and get you banned.
I hate Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Dave Chappelle, and Russel Peters because they make fun of white people like me. They also make fun of other kinds of people, which hurts me deep down because my ancestry is so mixed that I don't know what my official "race" is... so I get offended for all races!

Thanks Pree
After weeks of no news on this site people are hatin when knowledge is being laid? I know I am new to the site myself, but between this forum and Hoopswolrd Pree does more for us W"s fans in covering our team then all major on-line media outlets combine, and much respect to Pree for that. If you could reply to a thought of mind it would help settle a bet. Do you feel Monta would a.) be a good Olympic player to be selected to the team, because I do. and b.) would it help with marketing our team a bit better for the summer of 2010, where if we let S. Jack and TMNT expire we can sign one max player and keep our young core. ( Can you say Kevin Durant, in two years in the back court with Monta. Wow) Thanks again for the insight to our team while the rosters takes shape and the teams come back together.

Rob Kurz Love
Someone asked David Thorpe about Kurz today in the chat. Here’s what he had to say.
Tenorca (SF CA): Thorepetto: I asked already, but I hear Rob Kurz is over with you guys at IMG. He’s got a camp invite with the Warriors, so I’m curious: What do you think of him?
David Thorpe: Been here for 2 weeks. I love him. Shoot it extremely well-maybe the best I’ve had here. More agile and athletic than people think. It will be tough for him to make that team, but just as hard to cut him. He’s a special kid.

Pree,
your the man, geat post and great reads on hoopsworld.
So whats your take on this?
With Monta hurt, is it a safe bet that we trade Al for a pg, or do we ride it out with Watson and Williams, and just have this be a developmental year for the young guys?

Al’s perpetually on the block, but a move probably isn’t going to get done. I’ve heard Al isn’t very valued anymore, which is too bad.

ot, but nice job with 12 recs, Montadaboss, migh have gone legendary with his 5/5 performance, but you got the quality.
I know as a journalist giving up your fanhood comes with the territory, but come on, after your time here at GSOM, you got to pull for the DUBS deep down huh?

As I see it... Al gets 38 minutes a game at start of season
just like they did for Pietrus, trying to get his stats up and work a trade for him, that and rookie playing time is probably the only bright spots for this season, I really really want to believe otherwise, but I don’t….

Though I’ve read post after post about “getting someone’s stats up” to pump up trade value, can anyone actually cite a case where a team did this successfully? Now perhaps more than a few NBA GMs are borderline morons who CAN be fooled, but I suspect that such a move is transparent enough that it has dreadfully little chance of actually working.

getting someone’s stats up" to pump up trade value
The Giants did it with Mays so they could trade him to the Mets. Took quite a few years though for the process to work.

OK... enough with the BULLS
The point is that is has been the Reinsdorf’s memo in the post Jordan year. They bring in young guns let them develop and then trade them for what they perceive as better assets. So times it works, most of the time, though they’ve been a breeding ground for other teams.

Pree - have you heard ANY rumblings about the possibility
That Mullin might talk to the Bulls about a guard while in CHItown, or even a whif that he’d entertain picking up a certain Knick PG if the price was right?
