Blessing in disguise ...
As much as Monta's injury is bad timing for his point guard evolution, I think this may be a good opportunity.
We are undeniably in a transition year now, but this gives us a few options...
M.Williams, will get a chance to start for maybe 2 months, which is enough time to realize whether he has a future or not with us ... as a result, we might start playing smaller and faster again, meaning Bellinelli, Randolf, Buikie will get an inflation of playing time, which isn't a bad thing considering how many questions we have concerning their impact.
Maybe, management will start to admit we are clearly in rebuilding mode, and trade away (Harrington ? jackson?) for youth or draft picks.....or at least not make a stupid trade in an illusion of being able to contend for anything worthy...
This also gives us time to make low risk high reward gambles, suchas finally giving B Wright some playing time without labeling him a bust before he even steps on the court, or signing S.Livingston. Tha ladder could be a good opportunity, because come on, CJ Watson can't defend worth a dam and do you really see him bringing much upside ? Livingston has size and pure point guard skills and was turning into a good PG before his injury...Belinelli could get a chance at being a reliable scoring option off the bench and Heck, we might even see if A.Morrow is worth keeping around...
In any case Monta will be back by the end of the year and we know his worth, and he will have enough time to get accustomed to the PG before the next season when we should really start to gel as a team and make some noise...
I'm disappointed right now but the future looks bright....don't know if I believe but I sure am hoping !!!!

umm
there is absolutely no silver lining in this situation. Theres alot of viable options, but none of them are better then having a healthy monta ellis at the start of the training camp.

The silver lining is focusing on what can be positive and not crying about Monta…the guy is injured, so we can whine or see what we can get out of this situation, and “any” situation has upside to it

yea
he’s not saying it’s preferable that monta is injured, (though that might end up being the case if we hit it big in next year’s lottery), he’s pointing out the good that can rise out of monta’s injury. way to go nico

there is no good for this
apparently our definitions of “good” are conflicted. I understand what nico is trying to say, what im saying is, in order for this situation to be “good”, there has to be something to counteract the “bad”, and i don’t see any situation on our table atm that possibly spins monta ellis’ situation as having upside. but of course, theres nothing wrong with being optimistic, i just prefer to be realistic, to each their own

Optimism my friends!
nico has it right, but you have to understand. Warriors fans have been through a lot this summer, and we all had similar feelings when Baron moved on of our season being in bad shape. We are just reacting in the “here we go again” fancy, and I cant say I don’t blame them all. However, the facts are its WAAAAY too early to throw in the towel, as many writers and even I are saying “If one team and one coach can pull something off, its these Warriors.” I think the thing that is killing people right now is the idea of the unknown… there are so many things up in the air right now. Only time will tell when the season starts, but I have to say, being a Warriors fan of 10 years, I have seen years where we had MUCH LESS starting a season and still had hope. Keep that one in mind… I will admit though that if we start out the first 10 games going 2-8 or something close to horrific, its time to re-evaluate my friends

We might as well suck it up and see whom among our young guns will put up. No point of waiting too long. GIve them the minutes to determine who is capable of helping the Dubs go to the next level. Let us see who is “really” talented and who’s bust.

Goodness
We are starting to sound like the Giants… though its tough to compare Barry Bonds to Monta Ellis isn’t it…
Timmy L= Randolph or Ellis Future of the franchise in many people’s minds
B Molina= Al Harrington Cant trade the guy if we tried, but always shows up and puts up solid numbers
Matt Cain= Beindris Solid Contributions, always overlooked when talking about “whos the best” conversations
Belinelli= Fred Lewis Time to put up or move out of the way for someone else. Give him PT and see if he can pull it off
S Jack= There is no comparison…
The Giants put the rookies on the field and are competitive but looked overmatched often. Alright… its a stretch of a comparison at best, but I just hear people saying some of the same things about the two teams. Ironic really

not for me
Why does anyone believe that Marcus Williams will be a quality player for this team? He is pudgy and does not defend the perimeter. Will he run for 35 min/game? I’m not expecting any contribution from Anthony Randolph. He’s a young rookie that turns the ball over too much. Both of these players do not seem tailor made for coach nelson. He doesn’t tolerate mistakes, and these guys will make tons of them.
I’m not sure if Williams ever proved to anyone that he was willing to get his weight under control and play at an NBA level. Will his decision-making on offense on the fast break be enough to make Nelson overlook his deficiency? No, I don’t see how we contain any point guard that can penetrate. We won’t be creating turnovers with steals. i’d love it if I’m wrong, but I’m not impressed with what we got at the 1.

you're right
this gives us a HUGE chance to see who’s going to make it in the NBA and who’s not. I really want to know the fate of bellineli, bwright and mwilliams.

there is absolutely no blessing here
injuries like this could possibly slow players down even after they have recovered and can shorten careers. and come on think before you say things… with monta out we will be able to play smaller and faster???? are you kidding me.
by Agent Zero on Aug 29, 2008 11:50 PM PDT 0 recs
with monta out we will be able to play smaller and faster????
Monta is by far the fastest, however as a team the rotation will be smaller and the system will be nearly the same. Beninelli, williams and azubuikie and randolf will get more playing time than let’s say hendrix or croshere and webber last year…. and yes they are faster too…
If all he pessimistic people are already sure this is a bad thing and our season will be horrible, why even bother debating anything let alone support your team ???
By the way the season “starts” in 2 months…

how is the team smaller
“however as a team the rotation will be smaller and the system will be nearly the same. Beninelli, williams and azubuikie and randolf will get more playing time”
all losing monta does is moves williams to the pg slot, i fail to see your logic. belli, williams, and buike were already going to get more playing time, regardless of monta’s injury. Now its been rumored that Randolph may get more playing time now that monta is out, but im highly skeptical.
“If all he pessimistic people are already sure this is a bad thing and our season will be horrible, why even bother debating anything let alone support your team ???”
News flash, monta getting surgery to repair torn ligaments in his ankle, hmm i dunno, if i was to guess id say that ITS A REAL REAL BAD THING. And im getting real tired of radical warriors fans pulling the, “OMG UNLESS YOU BELIEVE EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS IN WARRIOR LAND IS INFALLIBLE, YOU DON’T SUPPORT YOUR TEAM” crap. I can point out alot of things that happened this offseason that i think were good for the warriors franchise. Losing monta for 3 months was NOT one of them.

Who ever said monta being injured was a good thing ?
Optimism just helps depict a good thing within a situation and pessimism makes the bad situation worst … You can be critical and optimistic too….
And maybe williams is plugged in as the PG, but I don’t expect him to play as much as Monta did, so this does change the rotation and playing time ratio…
But until the season starts this is all simply speculation…

California Latino population 2000: 11 million (32.4)
Florida Latino population 2000 2.6 million (16.8)
And I’m being good and ignoring the fact that the whole premise of your statement is pretty outrageous. :-O
