Detroit Signs Free Agent Kwame Brown
http://www.nba.com/pistons/news/brown_080804.html
Before you bash me for posting a fanpost about a team that you, the reader, probably don't care about, let me ask you two questions.
1.What good is Kwame Brown to the Detroit Pistons?
2.On a scale of 1-10, 1 being a completely useless move, and 10 being a great move for the team, what would you give them? (please vote)
Personally, I think it's no higher than a four. And you might say that I'm rating it too high by giving them a five.
Why? Let's start with his offensive skills. Like any other 6-11 athlete in the NBA, he can dunk the ball. But what's the problem with him dunking? He can't grip on to the ball! He gets blocked! He misses the dunk! Jumpshot? Hookshot? Post moves? In your dreams, buddy. His offensive skills are fueled by his confidence out on the court and if you haven't noticed, it's missing most of the time.
Defense? You could probably argue with it. He doesn't come up with a lot of blocks or steals, but he comes up with them once in a while. Being 6-11 and 270 pounds has to make you have your presence felt inside the key. He has decent rebounding skills that Detroit could probably use. Other than that, I can't think of anything else.
I think most of you guys reading this will agree that you could probably find somebody with more potential in the D-League. So why would they sign Kwame? Because of experience? Experience isn't enough when you lack motivation and heart. This guy isn't KB24, who is an offensive threat, hard nosed defender, and a gym rat. He's KB54, who is an offensive bust, spends half a season being injured, and gains weight everytime he comes back from an injury.
So why sign Kwame Brown? I wouldn't call this a desperation move, but the Pistons do need a center. Theo Ratliff and Chiek Samb isn't the kind of center that they can use on the court. Rasheed Wallace and Antonio McDyess both play much better as at the 4 spot than the 5 spot. But what they can do is sign better players. Jamal Magloire would probably do them more good than Kwame Brown can do for them. And can you imagine if Kwame was on the Warriors? I think he'd do more damage than good.
And now I have completely ran out of things to say about Kwame.
One last question, is there anybody else besides me that'll be waking up at 5 AM to watch Team USA?

intriguing questions
why would anyone bash you? it doesn’t matter that the pistons are a different conference and that we will play them 2 or 3 times in our 82 game schedule…its KWAME BROWN. who wouldn’t be intrigued where this former number 1 draft pick would end up. In my best estimate, he will provide excellent front court help for the pistons (jason maxiell, antonio mcdyess, and rasheed wallace WHO?), while providing lock down low post defense and soft hands around the glass (see lakers). all in all, i’d give this a 8+ move for a team that has just become that much more interesting to watch as the season progress’.

I would bash him. All of the things that you said don’t matter, really do matter.

yeah...it's not just...
that it’s a no-to-very-little impact deal for another team, but it happened a week ago.

the reason
why ppl are bashing on him is when his motivation and heart was seriously damaged when the great airness put him on blast by calling him a faggot back when he was wizards. haha So, it not really his fault he didn’t lived up to being number 1 pick.

Jordan called him a faggot?
It's about heart, It's about fight, It's about being a Warrior!

"It's" not "it"...
“I” should be capitalized… oh and “recall” not “recalled”... “since it was too long ago” not “since it too long ago.”
Have a great day!

NBA + Golden State Warriors Blog
it’s right there on the header guys – and someone else commented above that KB’s signing might mean McD is available which could involve GS … anyway, let’s lighten up – not you specifically YM, but lately we’re getting a lot of grammar-queens and slam-posts that don’t add much substance

waking up at 5 AM to watch Team USA?
ya, but don’t put a post in about a game the admins are too busy (?) to do themselves cuz they’ll find the time to eliminate it ala US-Russia game

Rasheed Wallace
should be the odd man out with the signing of Kwame and if Detroit plans to rebuild during the Celtics road to a dynasty. They have the core of Billups, Rip, and Prince with up and coming Maxiell hoping to play a full season at the 4 spot. I would love to trade for Sheed. He would fit great in out system and definitely be a compliment to our most important goal, team chemistry.
Wallace for Harrington, Belinelli, Kosta, 2nd rd pick
or
Wallace and 2nd rd pick for Harrington and Wright
I prefer the first trade proposal but I dont see Pistons going for that.
Warriors line up:
PG Ellis – Williams – Watson
SG Jackson – Buike – Belinelli
SF Magette – Morrow
PF Wallace – Randolph – Hendrix
C Biedrins – Turiaf
*Kosta to D-League
Pistons line up:
PG Billups – Stuckey
SG Hamilton – Affalo
SF Prince – Harrington
PF Maxiell – Wright
C Mcdyess – Brown

if you think rasheed is the odd man out
it would have nothing to do with the kwame brown signing. i wouldn’t argue with the idea that detroit might consider moving him, and that it might work out for them in the long run, but kwame brown is not an impact player. no team signs kwame and says “okay well i guess we don’t need our top flight pf anymore.” that said, if they want to get younger moving rasheed for some legit young players would be their best way to do it. his contract expires in a couple years and there are plenty of teams with young talent around that would love to have him.
i personally don’t think that the pistons do either of the deals you suggest. they come out clear losers in both with the second deal being closer to what they would consider. i think you’d have to throw in a 1st rounder instead of the 2nd and maybe someone like belinelli (just as a flier of a young guy, not someone the pistons get excited about) too, and then the offer gets considered. and i’m not sure the warriors would do that, so i don’t see ‘sheed coming to town.

Agreed. Kwame Brown got signed on a ‘what the hell, why not?’ sort of gamble. It’s probably still way too much money for him, but they’re banking that at the price, if he turns into a contributor at all, they’ll have done well and they’re still tantalized by the apparent athleticism, strength and skill in a guy that size. Too bad that he can’t play the game that well.

it won’t happen (and i don’t think it can with the cap), but here’s why you would at least need to consider it.
-rasheed over harrington is an upgrade and his contract is up in two years, so if it fails, no real harm. the warriors aren’t going deep into the playoffs as assembled for another couple years anyway.
-wright has potential to be good, but he’s still a big unknown. i don’t see him being one of the best players on an nba team in his career, i see him as a good role player who might be able to start one day. not the worst asset for the warriors to toss into a trade, but is interesting enough to be considered.
-marco is another “well, why not?” sort of flier, maybe he comes off the bench and makes some threes at one point in his career, but maybe he doesn’t.
-first rounder would need to be lottery protected, and if the warriors aren’t in the lottery because of the trade, it’s a success whether there’s a pick waiting in the first round or not.
