HUGE Logo Leak!!!! [The Oklahoma City NBA Sports Blog....to the Max!!!]

If it is indeed the Oklahoma City Thunder, what happens to the Warriors' mascot? [GSW Examiner]

Okay I know it's giving up a TON, but I'm willing to give up the naming rights for Thunder (we can call him "Bolt" or something like that) to the thieves in OKC in exchange for Kevin Durant. OKC- make the trade quick before it's off the table!

Thunder- please forgive me man. I hate to do you in like that, but KD is going to be All-NBA someday. It could prevent 12 year playoff drought v2.0 in Dubs land.

But seriously though is it just me or does OKC owner and Seattle hater Clay Bennett have some serious issues with stealing?

Can't wait till 2012 when the Seattle SuperSonics are whoppin' on the OKC {insert stolen nickname}!

LAME

the name sounds dumb, the logo looks dumb and the idea of clashing with the warriors is just dumb too. according to that steinmetz article, the warriors’ “thunder” is nba approved. i can’t believe the nba would be dumb enough to allow that clash to happen.

The NBA was dumb enough to destroy the historic Seattle franchise. Bennet must have some kinda hold on them or they woulda made him leave the Sonics in Seattle?

I say we jettison our Thunder anyway.

I’m for new unisforms and going back to the old basketbal, state of CA and star logo. Some things are just classic and should not have been messed with in the first place!!!

All of the Warriors jerseys have been more or less awesome

with the exception of the current ones.

Ditch the orange!

Reclaim the yellow and blue!

Yes we can!

Not that I was expecting a masterpiece… bring back the Sonic’s Uni’s!

I got linked to on GSoM!!!!

Zomg! A dream come true!!!! Man, I never thought this would happen….totally Slammin’, nonetheless. Thanks, Atma!

I’m going to go to the unveiling tomorrow. Hopefully it won’t be this ugly. Check my blog at 5PM if you wanna know!

Anyway, all along, I’ve been a HUGE proponent of not stealing the Warriors mascot. I’m still a Warriors fan first and foremost, and its incredibly stupid to steal another teams trademark. I mean, from another league it’s okay (Cardinals), but in the same league? Ugh. Thunder is definately gonna get his jersey retired on my blog, should Thunder be the actual name.

Anyway, lets hope that that was a working logo, and not the final product. We need Tony.psd to design it, lol!

AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!

This whole OKC Thunder shit just makes me sick. I’ve heard that both Kemp and Payton have verbally refused to have attend any number retiring that OKC might have in store for them. Shit, Kemp thought it was so wrong that Seattle did have hoops and that Key Area was without any love that he signed up for a recent 3 on 3 tournament at the The Key.

That much I don’t disagree with.

Educate me on the issue. Why wasn’t Seattle willing to give them their stadium again? It’s been so long since I gave a crap. (Not burning you, just trying to understand.)

by Amoc on Sep 3, 2008 3:52 PM PDT up reply actions

It's a long story

But here’s the readers digest version.

Seattle citizen pass initiative 91 in 2006 requiring that any city funds used to build a sport facility mandate a 50% share of concession, souvenir and ticket sales. City’s mayor insisted on a remodel of there current area, where as, Bennett and Co wanted a new 1/2 billion dollar arena. They tried to get one built in either Bellevue or Renton (equalent of build outside of San Francisco in either Oakland or Fremont). Bennett and Co took a proposal to the State congress, but were denied in early 07. They never made other sincere attempt to keep the team in Seattle. Last season they did what the villian in the Major League movie couldn’t do which was to build one of the worst teams in league so that people wouldn’t care if they moved.

Check out my user icon. That’s a pic of me that ran in the Seattle Times after last home game. Hell, I just here they ran it again yesterday in editorial section. My image is infamous in Seattle.

IN NO WAY IS LIKE THE A'S MOVING TO FREMONT!!!

Let’s see Fremont is 27 miles or so away from Oakland. You can BART and then take a bus to game and it’s not that much different. Other than the fact they are no longer physically in Oakland. Where as Oklahoma City is about 2,000 miles and two time zones away from Seattle. So don’t in any way tell this is like the A’s moving. – RIP Seattle Supersonics

Moving from the Seattle market to the Oklahoma market.

A business decision maybe, but only in the sense that it is a terrible business decision.

by belilaugh on Sep 3, 2008 10:27 PM PDT up reply actions

A business decision?

I’ll never understand these type of guys. They apparently have enough brains to make a ton of money but are not smart enough to realize, hey I can afford to move to Seattle now instead of bringing the whole team to stinkin oklahoma where all the poor folks there would love to be able to live in Seattle?

Fans go to games in Oklahoma. NOOK proved that.

by Amoc on Sep 3, 2008 11:51 PM PDT up reply actions

Just remember that...

When the Hornets were in OKC tickets were at prices similar to the Warriors lower bowl seats as low as $25 a seat and other tickets sets up above that were even cheaper. Hell the Oklahoma Newspaper (owned by Bennett’s wife) even published on article on how the ticket prices were much more expensive.

For seats with no amenities, they increased the ticket price 36 percent," said Phillip. "But yet Clay wanted to give the people who moved here a pay cut. Sooner or later people will figure out that we have been (ripped off).

dam

i miss those days for $25 lower bowl tickets. now cheapest is 75 just to stand in the lower bowl in the top of it! :( those were the days when i could go to 4+ games a year now all i could go to is either free tickets (haha my neighbor got no kids and a good job so he gives me the sideline seats but usually only one a year now) or the occasional group that wants to go but just wants upper bowl seats :( and lol to the pay cut thing its not really a pay cut when things there are drasticlally cheaper than seattle so the money they making now will give them the equivalent to living in seattle.

Fans go to games in Oklahoma.

That’s not the point. Why does someone with enough brains to make the money want to move the team to Oklahoma when instead he could buy it and move himself to Seattle? Have you ever been to the two cities? Seattle is much like the Yay area and OKlahoma is much like Bakersfield.

Wow, let's take a one year sample and cite it as irrefutable evidence!

Dude, it was the first year Oklahoma City has ever had a basketball team. Ever. Do you reall think that after 41 f**king years they will be turning out crowds? I hate that example because you don’t take into account that in the beginning, no matter what the team does, you will love them.

by belilaugh on Sep 4, 2008 11:45 PM PDT up reply actions

It's only basketball but,

when will we stop buying the BS that these corporate owners and upper class scumbags sell us? You can find a defense for any move possible (see: Bill O’Reilly). The only thing worse than the haves taking advantage of the have nots is the have nots accepting what is happening and supporting the people who stand for issues that really don’t benefit anyone but themselves and their friends (David Stern).

jesus

and i thought jerseys in the late 90’s were bad this just makes all things horrible. imagine if a player like mj ro kobe playing in a jersey looking like that that would not make them greatness just clowns! my god who the hell designed that some middle school kid! dam most d league teams have better stuff than that and even better names. lol freaking filipino leagues got better names (talk and text phone pals, red bull, colt 45) dam how could you steal a team and than make them look even crappier is he trying to prove something. poor kevin durant such a great player might turn into one of the best and hes just gonna look like a clown loser:( dam thats so sad. who get a fresh start on a team to do anything they wanted and just makes a lousy idea. come on team that are similar with things they make their team look good like the heat horrible name but done right, lakers, jazz, magic, i don’t get this team why would he buy it and screw it up thats like buying a car than hitting it with a sledge hammer and putting cheap paint on it! who does that?! sucks though the players might get booed for this and they have nothing to do with it.

franchises move, mascots change

guys, I know I’d be crushed if the dubz left and I get it that Seattle fans are bummin’

but

Lakers from Minn, Jazz from New Orleans, Warriors from Philly … and so on it’s part of the business and the fans be damned we just pay the bills … this isn’t a big surprise, so why all the emo? does anyone really care about our roid-rage style mascot?!

also I don’t get is why an expansion team would choose as their team name a mascot from a franchise that was lucky to steal a playoff spot once in a dozen years – that’s not exactly awe inspiring other than theirs lots of thunder storms … which, makes one wonder why they didn’t just pick The Storm?
