hey everyone

im a long time reader (sometimes writer) and enjoyer of golden state of mind.

What i am writing may seem a bit controversial and could upset some of you. But unless you are new to golden state of mind or just oblivious to what is at least to me an obvious fact, it seems that golden state of mind has gone way down hill since the "upgrade" to sb nation or whatever.

it just doesnt seem like a local and welcoming place to discuss the dubs anymore. At first i thought it was only me that thought this new layout was annoying and unfamiliar, and what was wrong with the previous design? it was working great.

but then i saw that pretty much the only one left out of the crew was fantasy junkie and tony.psd and even his amount of new drawings is lessening. i then saw that according to the survey, 48% of the GSoMers said they wont be going to GSoM night. what a shame considering the outcomes of all previous GSoM nights.

so is it time to admit that this once great and prospering site has seen the end of its best days, or does everyone feel nothing has changed?

On the bright side

A diary (ostensibly) dealing with Stephon Marbury just received over 200 posts, many of them pretty passionate and eloquent… ;-P

Seriously, it’s the dog days of the offseason, post-draft, post summer league. I agree that the new graphics suck, but when the season starts I think the site (including its founders, and posters other than me, Sam, Coma, JAE, and Skeptic) will come around.

In the meantime, I’m afraid Obama v. McCain may keep stealing the show…

Yeah

I don’t think this is because the site “sucks” or whatever like some people say it is. In my opinion, it’s simply because the overall vibe of the team right now is low, and that it’s resulting in this kind of behavior. Baron is gone, Monta got hurt, there’s nothing really to get excited about except for seeing the new guys and the youngsters play.

The activity on the site might be a little low right now, but i’m confident that it’s not something to go downhill. Once the season starts, everyone will come back and there will probably be a lot more posts. I can tell that there will be a lot of crazy emotions this upcoming season, it’s going to be a roller coaster ride because of the situation our team is in right now. We just gotta stay positive and enjoy the game, i’m going to try to be patient with the youngster’s development and not get too emo whenever we lose.

This site ain’t what it used to be. The only positive thing about the move to SB Nation, was the live game threads and the comment box. Otherwise, it really isn’t as good as it was before.

We’ve got a big unknown for the start of the season from arguably the most important guy on the team. There’s zero news out of the front office. It seems unlikely that the team’s gearing up to make a big move and if they did, the current powers that be don’t seem to be the types to leak much information ahead of time.

So we’ve got wild speculation about guys like Ben Gordon, something that wouldn’t be terribly exciting if the speculation wasn’t so wild, or we’ve got a fish-in-a-barrel shot at a McCainiac. Take your pick, or wait until the schizophrenic projections on the team’s success really get going when training camp starts and we get some real information as to what this team is really about.

I think the quality of this site fluctuates. For every 5 crappy diaries, we’ll have one very good one to spur debate. Same with the posts from the guys who run this site. I can’t give less of a shit about things like the “Remember this shoe in 1994!!” or “Fashion Fridays” posts. But that’s just filler anyways, and there usually are good columns posted. Once the season begins this place will be ripe with posters once again with a whole lot of crap to throw into the pile. But amongst that crap there are a few diamonds sprinkled in to make visiting this site still worthwhile.

I would be down.

But driving over 100 miles for upper level seats is something I just don’t do. I was talking to a fellow fan about how Monta was the main reason to go….I somewhat agreed in the sense that going when they have a higher probability of losing sucks. But as a fan I will be going to any game whether Monta is there or not if I score a good deal on some lower levels on ebay.

As for the site, even the old site had punks who would talk major trash about every player after a loss, and the offseasons were always full of crap posts. I myself am guilty of posting out of a combo of nostalgia and tequila. Option Zero is missed. I miss having intelligent debates with that guy.

I have however set a gathering for the opening game at my house on my 60" panasonic elite for all Warriors fans. Closest thing to being there. BBQ, Beer and all that goodness. If any of you are in the Monterey area hit me up.

12 years? You’re kinda young to be nostalgic aren’t ya?
Remember this is the OFF SEASON , Jax isn’t even answering his phone so to have anyone here is a positive. The change to SportsWhateverblog is a non issue in the color scheme of the cosmos. Actually I think this coming season will be quite interesting, we’ll probably such but suck interestingly so stick around.

…The economy happened yo’… remember back in May-July Gas and everything else went up in price… I had to take care of my family and pay some bills to try and survive the sudden shift in finances… Personal things were affecting my contributions to GSoM and I found myself taking in A LOT of freelance gigs to help pay the bills and survive…

… in this crazy world we call Graphic Design… I currently have a 40+ hour day job (i love)… I do freelance work for 3 shirt companies, and gather up about 2-3 extra clients everyweek… (club flyers, bday invites, mix-tape covers and other little things) and for the 1st time in my 10 years as a designer this is the best my side business has done :-) (I’m actually having to outsource clients to my other friends)

…I love GSoM… shoot the Dubz with all my <3! These days, the most I can do is blog back… even if it’s pointless… but with the way our economy is, certain personal interests have to take a back seat on my end… (like comic books, strip clubs and xbox games too!) Lets see how the season starts… what ever push happens, I’m still gonna rock signs at the games- shoot I’ll get more hyped a week prior 2 the opening game to draw!

I owe GSoM A TON… I’ll be around, plus 5-10 Ent. said it best… the overall vibe of the team right now is low!

I’ll make it up in the coming weeks w/ free covers of GSW Edition 2K8 and Live Covers!

It's the off season...

The dregs of the offseason. And the Niners are doing well. Can I say that? I’ve started coming here only every other day or so because there’s nothing interesting posted. Why? Because nothing interesting is happening. Wait till the season gets going and you’ll get your 300 post game threads, funny as hell recaps, and discussions of players actually doing something instead of sitting in their homes, or working out. Would you enjoy a post like this:

Hey everybody, did you hear? Jax just benched 300! That’s a new PR. Then he drank a protein shake. I really hope he checked out the nutrition label, because you never know with those things. What’s everybody else’s workout plan? I just drink water, but that’s cuz I’m not trying to bulk up. Do you think Jax can get to 320 before the season starts? That would be totally cool.
