New Logo in the Works?

According to an article on sfgate.com, the Warriors are considering adopting a new logo that would incorporate the image of the new bay bridge span that is currently being built.  What do you guys think? Sounds like a cool improvement over the current logo to me. I was never a big fan of the thunderbolt, and with OKC "stealing our thunder," seems like the time is ripe for a change.

The Golden State Warriors basketball team, often maligned for not identifying its hometown of Oakland in its name, is considering a new uniform design that would incorporate a sketch of the span, much like the classic "The City" uniforms with an image of the Golden Gate Bridge that the team sported as the San Francisco Warriors.

Offtopic, but...

I actually like the fact that the Warriors are the only team whose name isn’t a city or a state. I think it makes us unique that way. It also fun to see how silly the guest broadcasters sound whenever call the Warriors home city as Golden State.

by IQofaWarrior on Sep 23, 2008 7:50 PM PDT   0 recs

couldn't disagree more

clearly the philosophy behind the “golden state” monicker is to distance the brand from the decidedly poor and ethnic city of oakland. although i am not a resident of oakland, as a warriors fan and bay area native i find this insulting. the fact that the team resides in oakland ads to the appeal to me, and i think incorporating a logo that embraces the community is a much needed step in the right direction. furthermore, i think it’s pretty clear that most people are unhappy with the esthetics of the warrior’s logo/unis. change it!

I'm keen on the professional basketball club The Golden State Warriors. I don't fancy other clubs.

Couldn't disagree more

It’s not to distance itself away from the “poor and ethnic city of Oakland,” as much as it is to market to a broader region. How many of you guys would go from San Jose or places an hour or two away if you considered it Oakland? I think Golden State is just to appeal to a broader fanbase.

by StSaints408 on Sep 23, 2008 8:29 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

agreed

it’s not about the physical area they are in – it’s about fanbase..plus golden state is just a classic name, if not one of the best city names for a team. I mean it may not be california’s team, but at least it’s not the golden state lakers..

would love to see the bay bridge on the uni though

Not on the street. I only get positive remarks about my Warriors gear. I’m more interested in winning some games than the fine points of the logo but I do like the current lightening bolt, reminds me of a classic 20’s era logo. Golden State( of mnid, no less) is a perfect name for a team representing the most unique area in the states.

My philosophy

Well I think that at this point, we’ve got to be called the Oakland Warriors, cause the Raiders and A’s definitely aren’t giving the town a better name (although I personally think it’s not really the Raiders fault, you fans out there no what I mean, f*ck the refs!!!).

I just think that it’s ridiculous to be called the Golden State W’s when there are three other teams from the Golden State. I personally think Bay Area Warriors would be hella sick. It’s still not a city or a state, so we still stand out. And yet, it represents our area and community well.

I really thought

“Golden State” was chosen to satisfy “all” the fans in the bay area.

The San Francisco Warriors didn’t play all their home games in San Francisco. They played some in San Jose and Oakland. When they became the Golden State Warriors in 71-72, they played most of their games in Oakland but even played a bunch of home games in San Diego.

we should go back to the royal blue and yellow colors. i dont like the navy blue. or maybe we can even keep the orange because its cool

by pervisNeverNervous on Sep 24, 2008 3:57 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

ehhh

i dont like the orange. it looks tacky. and if we’re gonna rep a bridge, i say the bay bridge. its closer and hella cuter. golden gate is overrated. and to me, it JUST represents SF, not the bay area as a whole. but the BAY bridge on the otherhand……

by goldenstatelove on Oct 8, 2008 10:43 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

NOOOOO

Look back, the warriors NEVER had orange in any of their jerseys until after 1996 (I think). The colors should be Blue/Gold/White and White/Blue/Gold for Road and Home jerseys. Like it was meant to be. Golden Gate bridge be damned.

All this talk about our name being golden state and distancing it from oakland, isn’t oracle arena considered alameda? So shouldn’t we be called the Alameda Warriors?

HOW ABOUT...

we move away from the blue theme and go w/ a black and yellow color scheme…like the Steelers! NIKE came out w/ 1975 throwback jerseys in black and yellow and they looked pretty tight!

even better..

I love that color combo. I even said I might buy a Lakers jersey (i know, i know) after seeing a photoshopped Black and Gold one. Even photoshopped a Sonics jersey to the color.

Come to think of it… OKC couldd have used black and yellow, it kinda suits the Thunder monicker.

it w/ pinstripes! Kind of like the MAGIC unis! Had me an old PENNY jersey that was black, royal blue and white w/ white pinstripes!

New Uni's

I think modified versions of the old City Jerseys would be awesome, or maybe even from late 80’s/early 90’s. Orange is wack for the W’s, even if I’m a Giants fan

by Pearlsofwisdom on Sep 24, 2008 11:43 AM PDT   0 recs

yes

orange looks terrible with the blue. if “the city” logo and style was so popular, it makes sense to go back to that (with new bay bridge)…especially if everyone is so pysched about the new bridge.

About changing the name:

Golden State is unique in that it represents more than just one city, but I only support this idea for teams that are alone in their state such as Minnesota or Utah. California has 4 teams so its more fitting to have teams that represent their city. Either Oakland or Bay Area would be an improvement in my eyes.

About the logo:

I think using the Bay Bridge will be great assuming the artwork looks good. The Golden Gate has more history to it and was really cool on the “city” uniforms, but in reality the bay bridge is used way more by the bay area community.

wasn't alive then but...

when w’s arrived in the bay they were the san francisco warriors. then they were a traveling team throughout california splitting their home games amongst at least 4 cities. back in the day, they played home games in the following cities: san francisco, oakland, san jose, and san diego.

A Bay Bridge would be perfect

Basically symbolizes the Bay Area and how all the cities in it are all connected as one. It would be great to have a bridge as a logo, as long as it doesn’t look corny. It would be hard to get a respectable jersey/logo like the classic ones that the team had in previous eras; a lot of people tend to dislike how new jersey modifications look nowadays.

by Five Ten Entertainment on Sep 24, 2008 11:21 PM PDT   0 recs

oh my god

i said this idea like 2 years ago. somebody even made a jersey pic for me. but what i want is maybe like a bart or ferry in the back. and maybe have it say the bay instead of the city so the whole bay area is included, and i kinda want the team the be called the Bay Area Warriors.
I asked how this would look like on Golden State of mind nice right?

So I don't have a signature well these words would do! Who knew that upgrades can have downgrades too!

by 24k state fan since 87 on Sep 25, 2008 3:01 AM PDT   0 recs

those are amazing

i’m all for those jerseys, but i think calling the team the bay “area” warriors is kind of lame. maybe call them the east bay warriors, but then people in the rest of the bay are left out. and i think that going with the bay warriors wouldn’t sound right either. so, maybe bay area is the best call, but i just don’t like having the word “area” in the name of a team. either way, let’s get those jerseys for next year. we can figure out a name later.

"Bay Area Warriors"

“Oakland Warriors”
“East Bay Warriors”
“San Francisco Warriors”
“Bay Warriors”

Zzzzzzzzz. They all stink. This isn’t geography or political science class. Golden State Warriors is poetic, mysterious, classic, and beautiful. Ditto for the C I T Y. Why force everything to be so literal?

Also, I like your idea of the bridge look more like the Bay Bridge (new or old), but why show it foreshortened like that? It’s a flat logo on a jersey, not an actual porthole from an actual boat on the Bay. A good logo (the Yankees’ NY, the Giants’ SF, the Bulls’ Bull, the Cowboys’ star, the Warriors THE CITY, e.g.) has a kind of static, 2D purity and integrity ; it shouldn’t have to pretend that it’s flying through a wind tunnel, or vanishing towards the horizon, or glowing, or casting a shadow.

Also, last I checked, #23 was a Bobcat…

Don't mess with ^^^^ !!

dude

that is a old pic and i didnt make it. i think ssmokingjoe did when i posted the idea on here a while back. thats just the idea i want though. i still would rather have some form of the bay bridge on the jersey though since its much more significant to the bay area especially for Oakland at least they use it, unlike that over hyped orange thing that just takes people to the rich land of marin
