Golden State or Oakland? Once and for all

Let's just nail this down right now and be done with it for a while because we seem to see this arguement 2 or 3 times a year.

Would you prefer to call the team Golden State Warriors or Oakland Warriors?

In my experience, most people in the bay area travel around and experience a little of what every piece of the bay has to offer.  You dont just live in Oakland, or Fremont.  You go to the city to eat out, go to Oakland for the sports teams, go to the great mall in Milpitas, have a job in Pleasanton, go to the beach in Santa Cruz, and go to the snow in Pincrest.

Most people are also happy to make the occassional drive to LA or SD, or take a ride up to the Mendocino coast.

Why call them the Oakland Warriors when Golden State sums up the lifestyle?

The OKC Thunder stole our mascots name, get over it. We are talking about changing the logo to do away with thunder completely, lightning bolt and all. Changing the name of the team is not up for questioning. They weren’t the San Francisco Warriors back then, They wont be the Oakland Warriors now!

?

Before they moved to Oakland they were the San Francisco Warriors.

golden state is cool

how many teams out there use the nickname of the state instead of their city? we have something good going here so we sould just keep it. the uniforms have to go though. cannot wait to see the new one. if they are designing it now, we wont see it for another two years. that is how long the process is in the nba

Other...

Bay Area Warriors. If not that then Golden State is just fine.

As long as they don’t move, I could care less about what their team location name is.

No way Tony!

California Warriors is way to broad. Do you really want LA fans to claim the Dubs as their team?

since you mentioned san jose, didnt they almost move the sonics to san jose a few years ago?

by Somar on Sep 26, 2008 1:16 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I think so.

I’m not sure. It would’ve been sick, but I dunno, that would be a hard decision. San Jose team, or team that I’ve been a fan of all my life.

by StSaints408 on Sep 26, 2008 11:22 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

The cool thing is....

The A’s are moving really close by over here in Fremont, and the 49ers are moving within 10 minutes of my location in Santa Clara.

by StSaints408 on Sep 26, 2008 11:23 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

No.

Oakland Warriors kills. It’d be hella hard. Bay Area Warriors? Come on. Lets have rainbow uniforms and make sure we are all winners no matter who wins! Golden State is bad enough, and there is no question in my mind that we should be reppin the Town.

yo

good lookin’ out for us here in mendo, dubsvictim. i live like 3 hours away from the arena these days in ukiah. i used to be a short bart ride away back in union city. i still make it to at least 5 games a year. if gas wasn’t so expensive, i’d make more. i’m just glad comcast finally picked up the dubs games last season after 3 years of not showing ’em. oh and by the way. keep with the current moniker. has a nice ring to it.

Try it in reverse!

I think Golden State Warriors sounds OK to me because I’ve heard that for so long now. So let’s try this in reverse!

Golden State Athletics
Golden State Raiders
Golden State Giants
Golden State 49ers

KEEP IT GOLDEN ...

This ain’t about ‘the City’ or ‘the Town" this is about the BAY AREA. No other NBA team has a name that doesn’t include their city or state. GOLDEN STATE sets us apart from the rest so KEEP IT GOLDEN!

If they ever decide to name it Oakland … they besta start up a CITY franchise. NINERS UP – RAIDERS DOWN!

Golden State of YAY Area Unity

If we think about it, the Warriors never “officially” moved to Oakland. When they were the San Francisco Warriors, they made it a point to play a certain percentage of their games in both Oakland and San Jose. The change of name to “Golden State” was made during this time period of playing in all 3 cities. Over time, they began playing all of their games in Oakland, but as we recall from our Dubs history 101 class, they did indeed play their last home game of the 75’ championship season at the Cow Palace in of course…. Daly City! From SF, Oaktown, San Ho, DC, and all the spots in between, the Warriors are the Bay area’s team!

What if they moved to Gilroy LOL!

The Gilroy Warriors!

I hope they build a stadium right next to the San Jose Flea Market which is moving to Gilroy! hahaha!

Golden State

Growing up in S.D. as the son of a huge Knicks fan there was no chance of being a Laker fan, it was officialy forbidden.
Who says American parenting needs help?
So, at the tender age of 5, I chose the GSW because of Mully and the ambivalence of “Golden State”. It seemed to represent all of Cali with a true, uninhibited brand of basketball and still does to this day.
